YADI LEON
Illpolo.com's All-Illpolo Team
Yadi Leon helped St Ignatius
qualify for the state tournament for the second straight year with her
tenacious defense and outside shooting ability. She was named to the
All-Illpolo second team at the end of the season and was also selected to
the All-State third team for her performance as well. We asked Yadi the following
questions in an exclusive Illpolo.com interview:
College choices, major, current GPA?
Looking into Business and communications and mid-western schools.
Accumulative GPA so far: 3.63.
Experience, Club Team, Zone Teams, Off-season work?
Soon after that I started playing at Chicago
Aquatic Polo Club (site: Br. Rice). I’ve been on the mid-west zone team a
couple of years. I practice during water polo season in the spring, I
condition in the summer and winter, and in the fall I swim.
When did you start? How? Where?
I’ve been playing since I’ve been eight years old. I learned to play at Harrison Park District.
Awards and achievements?
Maureen O’Toole Award in Speedo Cup 2001, National Age Group Water Polo Camp Most Improved Girl 2001St. Ignatius Defensive MVP 2004, All Sectional team 2003 & 2004.
Personal interests? Music? TV shows?
Going to the movies, listening to Spanish
music, watching Alias, George Lopez, and Law and Order: SVU.
Goals for the future with polo? School? Life?
Hopefully play at the college level whether it be as a varsity sport or club sport. Go to college and possibly graduate school. Become successful and help out community, make my parents proud.
Motivation, inspiration?
Family, friends, current and past coaches,
knowing that people believe in me.
First Season role?
2 meter set.
Soph Year role?
Primarily defensive 2 meter, but sometimes as 2 meter set.
Other Comments?
I’m really proud of how St. Ignatius’s water polo has come along so far. The program is only about five years old at St. Ignatius. I, along with my coaches and other players hope that the program keeps expanding.
