State Ticket Prices, Sessions On The Rise
Lincolnshire, IL -- Before you head to Stevenson High School this weekend for the state water polo tournament, make sure that you are aware of the changes made by the IHSA in 2004.
First of all, the schedule has changed from the past two years. Instead of having the preliminary games on Wednesday and Thursday, the IHSA has moved those first two rounds to Thursday and Friday. The semifinals, which normally took place on Friday night, will now be played on Saturday morning. After those games, there is a lengthy break where the pool will be cleared. Finally, the third place and championship games will occur on Saturday night.
Finally, while you may not like the idea of having to pay so much to see quality water polo, these prices and policies were set by the IHSA, which is stationed in Springfield. The people who sell tickets, work at the door, or do anything to help out with the state tournament are simply parent volunteers. They are there to help out, are not getting paid, and in some cases, are working even though they have a son or daughter playing in the tournament.
The moral of this story: please do not complain or argue with the kind volunteers who are working at Stevenson over the course of the weekend. Also, if you read this and someone else who may not is complaining or hassling a volunteer, please try and let them know that they are simply barking up the wrong tree and are causing problems for someone who has nothing to do with prices or policies and is just there on their own time trying to help our great sport.
