Live play-by-play

Quarter 1

Sean Coghlan blocks a shot from outside on Stevenson's first possession and delay in the action halts play in the first minute

Duncan Partridge gets a steal but Joe Frantz makes a save on Dmitriy Simonoff's outside shot to keep the game scoreless

Frantz makes his second save and starts the counterattack for Rice, but Partridge forces a turnover on the other end

Drew Velasquez makes a steal at 2m, but Jamie Clark gets a steal for Stevenson at the 4:45 mark

Coghlan draws an ejection and Matt Joslyn scores the first goal of the game with 4:14 left in the first quarter

Sean Madden centers a pass from the right wing and Clark scores at 2m to tie the game at 1-1

Coghlan puts Rice back ahead with a goal from 2m with 3:17 to go in the first period

After a turnover, Coghlan scores his second goal from inside 4m to make it 3-1

Frantz saves an outside shot attempt by Stevenson's Eric Preston and starts the counterattack for Rice

Coghlan assists Ryan Scott with a goal from the left side to make the score 4-1

Frantz tips a shot over the net, then makes a save on Simonoff's shot from the left wing

Coghlan scores his third goal of the game from 2m and Stevenson takes a timeout late in the period

Quarter 2

Frantz makes a save, but Rice cannot convert on their first possession of the second period

Simonoff makes a steal at 2m for Stevenson; Frantz with another save on an outside shot by Greg Spigelman

Rice draws an ejection on the counterattack and takes a timeout early in the quarter

Frantz tips a shot off the post then recovers the loose ball and starts the counterattack for the Crusaders

Coghlan draws an ejection and scores at 2m, assisted by Joslyn

Preston's shot from outside 5m gets deflected in as Stevenson cuts the lead to 6-2

Rice gets a two-man advantage, and Sean Davis tips in a loose ball in front of the net to make the score 7-2 late in the half

Clark draws an ejection but cannot convert from in front of the net as Frantz clears the loose ball

Davis scores his second straight goal on the counterattack for the Crusaders

Joslyn causes a turnover for Rice, then Davis assists Coghlan on a goal from 4m out with :01 left in the half; Brother Rice leads 9-2 at halftime

Quarter 3

Coghlan starts the quarter with a goal from 2m to extend the Crusaders' lead to 10-2

During a scramble in front of the net, Frantz pushes the ball away from Partidge to keep Stevenson from scoring

Velasquez connects on a shot from outside 5m to put Rice ahead 11-2 at the 5:21 mark of the third quarter

Davis adds his third goal during a man-up situation to give Rice a 12-2 advantage

Scott puts in a goal from the right post, assisted by Joslyn, as the Crusaders take a 13-2 lead

Spigelman draws an ejection with 0:26 left in the third quarter and Stevenson calls a timeout

Frantz tips a shot by Spigelman over the net, then Dave Shobe comes up with a field block at the end of the quarter for Brother Rice

Quarter 4

Kyle Seplowin scores the first goal of the half for Stevenson and cuts the lead to 13-3 in the first minute of the period

Matt Stelnicki converts from the left wing to put Rice on top 14-3

Dan Goggins scores from the left side with 4:26 remaining

Stelnicki scores his second goal of the half from the left side as both teams make mass substitutions

Ryan Graham forces a turnover for Stevenson, but Preston shoots over the net on the Patriots' counterattack

Neither team scores in the final two minutes as Brother Rice advances with a 16-3 victory

The state tournament blog will cover all of the action on Friday night from Stevenson High School. Starting with the 4:30pm game between Fenwick and Lincoln-Way East, this page will show live play-by-play for the current game in progress. Links will be provided for games that have already been played with play-by-play from all previous games on individual pages.

We have updated to broadband wireless this year, so the site should be updated more frequently than in previous years.
