GAME RECAPS (Saturday, May 18)
SEMIFINAL #1
Fenwick 12 Naperville North 10
Matt Bresnahan scored 5 goals and both Omar Calderon and Matt Farmer each
added 2 scores as the Friars pulled away from the Huskies in the second half
and held on for a 12-10 victory on Saturday. Andrew Bertschy, Justin White,
and Trevor McLean each scored once in the win for Fenwick, as they advanced
to the state title game on Saturday night. Eric Curia and Nolan Roberts both
registered 4 goals while Adam Nyland and Drake McClure each tallied one
score in the loss.
The Huskies had an early 3-2 lead before the Friars' 4-0 run in the second
quarter put them ahead 6-3. Curia scored two straight goals to trim the
advantage to one, but that was as close as North could get. The Friars built
an 11-6 lead late in the game before Curia and Roberts combined to score 3
consecutive goals to get to within 11-9. A double-ejection led to a Matt
Bresnahan goal that essentially put the game away for Fenwick, while Roberts
added a last-minute goal that finished the scoring.
SEMIFINAL #2
Stevenson 8 St Ignatius 5
The Patriots used a 5-0 run in the second half to claim an 8-5 comeback win
over St Ignatius to move on to the state title game on Saturday. Varun
Mummadi scored 3 second-half goals and Remy Dalloul put in the game's last 2
goals to help Stevenson complete their monumental turnaround. The Patriots'
Mitchell Sokolsky scored the game-winner by converting a penalty shot in the
fourth quarter. Mummadi scored 3 times, Sokolsky and Dalloul each scored 2
goals, and Taylor Baretz added a key score late in the third period. John
Reyes and Shane Hughes both scored 2 goals and Billy Barth netted one score
in the loss for the Wolfpack, who seemed to run out of steam late in the
game.

SEMIFINAL #1
Lincoln-Way Central 8 Mundelein 7
LWC responded to an early 3-0 deficit with a 6-0 run and the Knights fought
off a late Mundelein rally to advance to the state title game with an 8-7
win over the Mustangs. Danijela Jackovich and Kristi Howe both scored 3
goals and Beth Senese and Liz Klock both tallied one score in the winning
effort. Allison Boothe and Karrie Kozokar both recorded 2 goals while
Courtney Perrault, Michelle Barron, and Emily East all put in one goal in
the loss for the Mustangs.
Barron, Perrault, and Kozokar scored the first three goals of the game for
the Mustangs. Jackovich's second period goal stopped the run and sparked a
huge turnaround for the Knights, as Klock, Howe, and Jackovich scored before
the half and put LWC ahead 4-3. Jackovich started the scoring on LWC's first
possession of the second half and Howe also scored again to increase the
lead to 6-3. That's when the Mustangs climbed back in it, as Kozokar scored
from mid-pool, Boothe tallied her first goal, and Emily East raced towards
the net to score a rebound goal to tie the game. Howe instantly responded to
put the Knights ahead 7-6, then Senese was left open midway through the
fourth quarter to score what would be the eventual game-winning goal. Boothe
cut the lead to one late in the final period and the Mustangs had a chance
to tie the game in the final minute, but Central goalie Caroline Foglton
made a key save and the Knights ran out the clock to secure the win.
SEMIFINAL #2
St Ignatius 8 Mother McAuley 7
Karen Juarez earned a penalty that Tammy Stelnicki converted in the final
period and the St Ignatius defense made five straight stops to earn an 8-7
victory over Mother McAuley to advance to the state title game on Saturday.
Stelnicki's goal came just moments after Amy Kopale had tied the game at 7-7
in a tightly-defended game by both teams. Becky Insalaco scored 4 goals,
Stelnicki added 2 scores, and both Diana Fernandez and Rebecca Martinez each
tallied one score. Kristen Kleist led the Mighty Macs with 4 goals and
Kopale, Clare Bryar, and Fran Williamson each scored once in the losing
effort.
