Fenwick 7 New Trier 5
PERIOD 1
The Friars jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter after two goals by
McLean and another by Farmer.
PERIOD 2
McLean netted his third midway through
the second period, while the Fenwick defense held the Trevians scoreless
until late in the first half, when McCulloch scored with 1:23 left until
halftime.
PERIOD 3
Farmer scored a quick goal in the third period to increase the Friars'
advantage to 5-1. Bartha and White traded goals midway through the third,
then Ryan trimmed the Fenwick lead to 6-3 with a goal for New Trier.
Mahoney was able to add a goal late in the quarter to increase the Friars'
lead to 7-3.
PERIOD 4
The New Trier defense held up after an ejection in the first minute of the
final period, then Weiser scored his first to trim the lead to 7-4. He
scored again with 2:27 left in regulation, giving the Trevians hope as
they moved with two goals of the Friars. Things came to a boil in the
final minute when Fenwick goalie Tommy McGuire grabbed a loose ball and
the Fenwick bench called timeout, but it was not granted and the ball was
turned over to New Trier (and McGuire was ejected). However, Andrew
Bertschy and Tony Perez teamed up to prevent a goal, and Bertschy would
make a steal on New Trier's last possession as they tried to force a pass
to Jordan Palmer at two meters. The Friars ran out the remaining time to
earn a 7-5 victory and setup a showdown with Lyons for the tournament
title.
