STATE QUARTERFINALS
Sandburg 11 Fremd 5
Matt Veldman recorded 7 goals and Anthony Bonnar added 3 scores as Sandburg
used a 7-0 run to earn an 11-5 comeback win over Fremd to advance to the
state semifinals. The Eagles trailed 3-0 early in the second period before
mounting a major offensive to take control of the game. Stephen Zieler also
netted one score in the Eagles' victory. JP French led the
Vikings with 3 scores in the loss.
Lyons 8 Naperville North 4
Joe Shannon scored 4 goals and both Kovas Zygas and Peter Dore notched 2
scores as LT pulled away from Naperville North in the second half to earn an
8-4 win and a date with Sandburg in the semifinal round. The game was tied
at 4-4 at halftime, but the Lions outscored the Huskies 4-0 in the second
half to walk way with the victory. Eric Curia led North with 2 scores and
Aaron Katz and Nolan Roberts both chipped in with one goal apiece in the
losing effort.
Loyola 14 Latin 12
Charlie Dowdle and Tim Netzel both scored 4 goals and Brendan Hulseman and
Danny Stauder each put in 3 goals as Loyola held off Latin 14-12 on Thursday
night. The Ramblers advanced to the semifinals with the hard-fought win.
Jacob Himmel scored 5 times and Eddie Wickes connected on 4 shots in the
loss for the Romans, while Dylan Levin tacked on 2 goals for the Romans.
Loyola built an 8-2 lead in the first half, only to see the Romans storm
back to make the score 9-6 at the half. The Ramblers later pulled ahead
13-9, but again the Romans used a 3-0 run to trim the lead to one goal.
Stauder's crucial goal late in the final period and the combination of three
ejections on both of the Romans' leading scorers made it too difficult for
Latin to close the gap, and the Ramblers ran the clock out to seal the win.
Lockport 9 Stevenson 6
Dan Oldendorf and Dave Hir both recorded 3 goals and Matt Yaeger put in a
terrific goaltending display as Lockport earned a historic 9-6 victory over
Stevenson. The Porters advanced to the semifinals in their first-ever
appearance at the state tournament. Chris Formosa, Chris Neylon, and Zach
Trent each scored one goal in the win for the visitors. Alex Shkiler tallied
4 goals and Chris Hodges and Mitchell Sokolsky each added one score in the
loss for the Patriots.
