GAME PREVIEWS (Saturday, May 16)
BUFFALO GROVE SECTIONAL
12:30pm - (1) Stevenson vs (6) Wheeling
The Wildcats will need to conjure up a fourth straight magical
performance in the postseason if they hope to spoil the party for
Stevenson, as the Patriots are just one win away from another state
tournament appearance. Nate Reiff and company will hope to keep things
close, as they have won two straight nail-biters over Lake Forest and
Mundelein, while Stevenson will hope that a fast start can prevent any
hopes of a Wheeling upset.
FENWICK SECTIONAL
1:00pm - (1) Fenwick vs (3) Curie
The Condors will look to make history by claiming their first sectional
title and state tournament berth, but they will have to get past the
defending champions in their home pool in order to do it. The Friars
have plenty of things working in their favor, but they will have to be
careful not to overlook a dangerous Condors' team.
GBN SECTIONAL
12:30pm - (1) Loyola vs (2) New Trier
The Ramblers and Trevians will meet in familiar territory in a rivalry
game with a state tournament bid at stake. Loyola won last year's
sectional semifinal encounter en route to a state championship, while
New Trier qualified for state with a sectional final win over the
Ramblers two years ago.
LWN SECTIONAL
11:15am - (4) LWC vs (2) Sandburg
The Eagles have made their typical postseason resurgence and find
themselves one win away from a return trip to the big dance, but they
will have to be at their best to prevent a red-hot Knights team from
getting to their first-ever state tournament.
LYONS SECTIONAL
11:15am - (1) Lyons vs (3) Brother Rice
The Lions navigated their way through a tricky semifinal encounter with
Stagg on Friday night, but they face another difficult challenge on
Saturday against a Brother Rice team notorious for turning things up a
notch in the postseason. Can the Crusaders do it again to reach the
state tournament or will the hosts get back to the state tournament
after a two year hiatus?
NEUQUA VALLEY SECTIONAL
11:30am - (1) Naperville Central vs (2)
Neuqua Valley
The Redhawks have earned three wins over Neuqua Valley in 2015, but
they'll have to do it again when it matters most against a team riding
the momentum of last night's thrilling 10-9 win over Naperville North.
SCHAUMBURG SECTIONAL
12:30pm - (1) Barrington vs (2) Conant
The Broncos are one win away from their first sectional title and state
tournament berth but must deal with an experienced Conant team that
knows how to get the job done in the postseason. The Cougars are one
year removed from the state tournament, but they will have to figure out
how to stop Chase Lesniak and a Broncos team that beat them twice in the
regular season.
ST IGNATIUS SECTIONAL
1:45pm - (1) St Ignatius vs (2) DLS
DeLaSalle and St Ignatius meet in the sectional finals for the third
straight year, with the hosts hoping to achieve the same outcome for a
third straight time. Can the Robert Rodriguez-led Meteors achieve their
first sectional title in team history or will Billy Barth, Shane Hughes
and company get one step closer to their goal of winning a state
tournament trophy?
GAME
PREVIEWS (Saturday, May 16)
BUFFALO GROVE SECTIONAL
11:00am - (1) Stevenson vs (2) Palatine
Stevenson will look to extend their dream season for one more week as
the undefeated Patriots can get back to the state tournament if they can
avoid a letdown against the Caroline Wojtas-led Pirates. Palatine could
spoil the party and get back to state for the second straight year if
they can shut down the potent offensive attack of the Patriots, who have
plenty of weapons available and will know not to overlook a dangerous
Palatine team.
FENWICK SECTIONAL
11:30am - (1) Fenwick vs (2) Oak Park
Local rivals meet for the first time in 2015 with a state tournament
berth on the line. The Friars are just one win away from getting back to
state to defend their title, while OPRF looks to make their first state
tournament appearance in over a decade after putting together an
impressive 29-2 season.
GBN SECTIONAL
11:00am - (1) New Trier vs (3) Loyola
The Trevians broke the Ramblers' state tournament streak last season
with a 7-6 victory over their rivals and will look to repeat their
success in the latest edition of this storied matchup. Loyola will look
to carry over the momentum of last night's overtime victory over
Glenbrook North to get to state for the fourth time in five seasons.
LWN SECTIONAL
10:00am - (1) Bremen vs (3) Lincoln-Way
Central
The Red Jaguars find themselves in the familiar spot of being one win
away from their first trip to the state tournament. Can they get over
the hump this time against a Knights' team that has won this sectional
two of the last three years?
LYONS SECTIONAL
10:00am - (1) Lyons vs (2) Mother McAuley
Everything is lined up for the Lions to make it back to the state
tournament for the first time since 2011, where they beat the Mighty
Macs to win their own sectional. Only problem is that they will have to
get past a dangerous Mother McAuley team that seems to be peaking at the
right time and could muster up another magical postseason performance to
make it back to the state tournament themselves.
NEUQUA VALLEY SECTIONAL
10:00am - (1) Naperville North vs (3)
Naperville Central
The Huskies are chomping at the bit to make it back to the state
tournament to challenge for their first-ever title, but they should know
better than to overlook a Redhawks' team that stunned Sandburg on Friday
night and could pose a major problem for the Huskies' defense. If this
year's encounter is like last year's edition (where the Huskies won on a
buzzer-beater by their goalie) then expect some fireworks at Neuqua
Valley on Saturday.
SCHAUMBURG SECTIONAL
11:30am - (1) Conant vs (3) Fremd
The Cougars find themselves one win away from their first trip to the
state tournament, but they should not overlook a Fremd team that played
a masterful defensive game against Prospect in yesterday's semifinal
round. Conant beat Fremd twice in the regular season en route to the MSL
title, but the Vikings will look to stymie the Carmen Rosas-led offense
to get back to the state tournament after a brief hiatus.
ST IGNATIUS SECTIONAL
12:30pm - (1) St Ignatius vs (2) Evanston
The Wolfpack and Wildkits meet in a rematch of last year's sectional
title game, which saw the hosts earn a 9-3 victory that sent them to the
state tournament. St Ignatius has too much experience to overlook a
strong defensive squad like Evanston, while the key for the Wildkits
will be finding enough offense to pull off the upset over last year's
state runner-up.
