2014 SECTIONALS


More than 150 boys and girls teams will begin their quest for a chance to advance to the state tournament, starting with the sectional play-in games on May 12 & 13.

 

The boys' quarterfinal action starts on May 14, followed by the girls' quarterfinal games on May 15. The sectional semifinals are played on May 16, with the sectional final games all taking place on Saturday, May 17.

Links to every sectional site are provided below. These will be updated continuously with schedules, game times, and scores/recaps throughout the week of sectionals. At the end of the week, we will have Sectional Ballers and the All-Sectional Teams (as soon as they are submitted to us from each sectional site).

GAME RECAPS (Friday, May 16)

 

 

 

GBS SECTIONAL

Loyola 13 New Trier 4

Cameron Shewchuck recorded 4 goals and Matt Kearney netted 3 scores as Loyola jumped out to a 10-2 halftime lead before beating New Trier 13-4. Jack Nickele added 2 goals, Chris Jovanovic put in one goal, and Trevor Prince blocked 13 shots and a penalty attempt in the Ramblers' win. Alex Grant led New Trier with 3 scores in the loss.

 

Niles West 11 Glenbrook South 8

Max Yusim and Steven Renko both recorded 3 goals and Matt Lefler totaled 9 saves and 6 steals to help the Wolves earn an 11-8 win over GBS. Kyle Patt also scored 2 times in the win for West. Brant Boczek and Jake Nelson combined to score 3 goals in the loss for the Titans.

 

 

LWC SECTIONAL

Andrew 11 Lockport 8

Eric Tamulonis recorded 7 goals and Tim Yara made 15 saves as Andrew earned a solid 11-8 win over Lockport on Friday. The T-Bolts outscored the Porters 9-3 throughout the middle portion of the game and held off a late rally by the Porters to come away with the victory. Alex Batuello, Alex Gacek, Andrew Wojdyla, and Chuck Walters each added one score in the winning effort.

 

Sandburg 11 Lincoln-Way Central 4

Majd Ibrahim totaled 4 goals, Zach Roper scored 3 times, and Mitch Zieler put in 2 goals as the Eagles got past LWC 11-4. Ben Crnich also scored once in the win for Sandburg.

 

 

LYONS SECTIONAL

Fenwick 14 St Patrick 6

Danny Farmer registered 5 scores and Ryan Masi scored 3 times to help Fenwick earn a 14-6 win over St Patrick. Omar Calderon also recorded 2 goals in the winning effort for the defending champions. Conor O'Rourke led the Shamrocks with 5 goals in the loss.

 

Lyons 10 Oak Park 7

George Duffy tallied 3 scores and both George Lundgren and Nathan Kriha scored 2 goals as the Lions ended the game on a 3-0 run to pull away from Oak Park and advance to the sectional finals with a 10-7 victory.

 

 

METEA VALLEY SECTIONAL

Naperville North 15 Neuqua Valley 8

Nolan Roberts scored 4 goals and BD Chapman, Drake McClure, Garrett Nash, Joe Tomashek, and Luke Landiak each scored 2 goals as the Huskies knocked off Neuqua Valley 15-8. Ryan Towers also scored once in the win for North. Scott DePuy totaled 3 goals, both Joey Dalesando and Simon Shatinsky scored 2 goals, and John Hedderman made 8 saves in the loss for the Wildcats. Austin Mollway also tacked on a goal in the losing effort.

 

Naperville Central 15 York 4

Christian May recorded 4 goals and both Joe Bigenwald and Nick Walker scored 3 times as the Redhawks pulled away from York in the second quarter to secure a 15-4 win on Friday. Ryan Donahue also scored 2 goals in the win for Central. Timmy Matsas scored 2 goals while Matt Rodriguez and Wil Hubert each scored once for the Dukes.

MUNDELEIN SECTIONAL

Stevenson 12 Barrington 4

Andrew Shashin notched 5 scores and both Mitchell Sokolsky and Zach Stephens scored 2 times to help lift Stevenson over Barrington 12-4. Chase Lesniak, Marshall Mathias, Matt Gouskos, and Pat Hogan all scored once in the loss for the Broncos.

 

Mundelein 10 Libertyville 7

Mike Ward registered 4 scores and Jude Krauss notched 3 scores as Mundelein defeated Libertyville 10-7. Alfonso Ochoa also made 12 saves in the victory for the Mustangs. Jason Voelker led the Wildcats offense with 3 goals in the loss.

 

 

PALATINE SECTIONAL

Palatine 16 Conant 10

Kristian Kalev poured in 10 goals and the Pirates used a 6-2 run in the final period to pull away from a tough Conant defense to earn a 16-10 victory on Friday. Ryan Schlaiss added 3 goals and trio of Omar El Hoffi, Jacob Baran, and Wally Kleinfeldt each scored once in the winning effort. Baran also had a strong showing on the defensive end as he held the Cougars scoreless from set throughout the game. Mihir Patel tallied 4 scores and both Braden LaMore and Cody Yeiser scored 2 times in the loss for the Cougars.

 

Fremd 14 Hersey 11

Dylan Assman and Luke Stark each recorded 5 goals as the Vikings got out to an early 2-0 lead and held off a late charge by the Huskies to secure a 14-11 upset win and a date with rival Palatine in the sectional finals. Connor Helsdingen and Zach Starkey both tallied 2 scores in the win as well for Fremd. Jack Carroll put in 5 goals and Michael Buffa added 3 scores in the loss for the Huskies. Connor Reynolds also scored 2 times and George Vladimirov put in one score for Hersey.

 

 

STAGG SECTIONAL

Brother Rice 10 Curie 9

Matt Bachler scored 4 goals as Brother Rice used a 3-0 run in the second quarter to pull even with Curie and outscored the Condors 2-1 in the final period to earn a 10-9 upset win on Friday. Jeronimo Chavez and Manny Martinez each tallied 3 scores in the loss for Curie.

 

Stagg 12 St Rita 5

Zack Amendola totaled 4 goals and Lane Holin blocked 13 shots to help lift Stagg over St Rita 12-5. Chuck Henrichs led the Mustangs with 2 goals in the losing effort.

 

 

UIC SECTIONAL

St Ignatius 15 Northside 10

Tom Dowling recorded 4 goals and both Billy Barth and Gunnar Glaab scored 3 times as the Wolfpack got past Northside 15-10. Enrique Leon, John Reyes, Shane Hughes, and Zach Blake each scored once in the win for SICP. Christian Hernandez netted 5 goals and Connor Gillespie scored 4 times in the loss for the Mustangs.

 

DLS 18 Latin 7

Danny Pedro, Jeremy Siegel, Roberto Rodriguez, and Vinny Scalise each scored 3 goals to help DLS pull away from Latin in the second half to earn an 18-7 win on Friday. Winslow Ziv scored 3 times and Steve Grotewold netted 2 goals in the loss for the Romans.

GBS SECTIONAL

Loyola 9 Maine East 4

Marta Considine registered 4 scores and the Loyola defense totaled 18 steals in a 9-4 victory over Maine East on Friday. Julia Sajnaj added scores, the trio of Claire Voss, Emily Barr, and Liz Kyle each scored once and Colleen Ahern made 10 saves for the Ramblers. Isabelle Trier made 22 saves to help keep the Blue Demons in the game.

 

New Trier 12 Maine South 0

Brittany Bishop scored 4 goals, Lauren Barrett totaled 3 scores, and Keelin Frank and Zoe Gottleib made 5 saves and earned a shutout as the Trevians downed Maine South 12-0. Jacqueline Glattard and Natalie Goldman each scored 2 times and Shannon Kent added a goal in the win for New Trier.

 

 

LWC SECTIONAL

Lincoln-Way East 11 Lincoln-Way North 3

Haley McCabe scored 6 goals and added 8 steals while Lauren VanderVelde scored 3 times to help lead the Griffins to an 11-3 victory over LWN. Aimee Schaaf and Taryn Linke both notched one score in the win for East. Niki Beringer scored all 3 goals in the loss for the Phoenix.

 

Andrew 7 Lincoln-Way Central 2

Caily Friel and Megan Hofer both scored 3 goals, Alexys Knight scored once, and Anna Tamulonis stopped 13 shots in the T-Bolts 7-2 win over LWC. Liz Klock tallied 2 scores in the loss for the Knights.

 

 

LYONS SECTIONAL

Fenwick 13 York 4

Catie Wallace and Colleen Barron combined to score 5 goals to lead the Friars to a 13-4 win over York. Grace Achepohl tallied 2 scores and both Lauren Tamm and Perri Brinkmeier scored once in the loss for the Dukes.

 

Lyons 7 Oak Park 6

Frankie Delleman scored the game-winning goal with :51 left in regulation and the Lions defense stopped the Huskies final chance to earn a 7-6 victory over their rivals on Friday night. Delleman and Julia Cohen both scored 2 goals while Allie Kurth, Caroline Walsh, and Haley Hughes each scored once for the Lions' offense. Delleman also chipped in with 3 assists and goalie Jessie Wittenberg made 10 saves for LT. Jilly Cronin and Genevieve Curry each scored 2 goals, Katie Appell drew 4 ejections, and Jordin Hale made 6 saves in the loss for the Huskies. Maura Dahl and Maddie Wolfe each tallied one score as well for OPRF.

 

 

METEA VALLEY SECTIONAL

Naperville North 11 STC North 4

Helen Wei scored 3 goals to lead the Huskies' offense as the sectional's top seed raced out to a 9-2 lead at the half en route to an 11-4 victory. Katie Quinn notched 2 scores and both Katie Difiglio and Nicole Guyett scored once in the loss for the North Stars.

 

Naperville Central 11 Neuqua Valley 5

Emily Westlove scored 6 goals and Kaela Codo scored 3 goals and dished out 6 assists in the Redhawks' 11-5 victory over Neuqua Valley. Kristina Altuve added a goal and drew 5 ejections and Michelle Spaits also scored once in the win.

MUNDELEIN SECTIONAL

Stevenson 18 Lake Forest 2

Allison Travetto scored 5 goals and Autumn Hoang, Melissa Gartenberg, and Sara Ploch each recorded 3 goals in Stevenson's 13-2 win over Lake Forest. Erin Kempers added 2 goals and Becky Callen/Lauren Burns combined to make 14 saves for the Patriots. Abby Warren scored 2 goals and Lauren Meng made 8 saves in the loss for the Scouts.

 

Mundelein 10 Wheeling 9

Emily Garcia racked up 7 goals and Anna Ward (26 saves) denied Argelia Diaz' close-range shot in the final minute as the Mustangs held on to beat Wheeling 10-9 on Friday. Theresa Godlewski totaled 6 goals, Diaz netted 2 scores, and Shannon Richards scored once in the loss for the Wildcats.

 

 

PALATINE SECTIONAL

Conant 14 Barrington 3

Angie Skittone tallied 6 scores and Carmen Rosas netted 4 goals as Conant knocked off Barrington 14-3. Emily Weingart added 2 goals and both Miranda Fenlon and Sam Wooley scored once in the win. Maddy Demaret stopped 8 shots and Rosas led the defense with 8 steals. Emma Hoffman scored 2 times and Isabelle Rojas added one goal in the Broncos' loss.

 

Palatine 10 Fremd 9 (2 OT)

Kristen Anderson scored the game-winning goal in sudden death overtime as Palatine survived a scare from Fremd with a 10-9 victory on Friday night. Palatine led 7-4 at halftime, but the Fremd defense held the Pirates scoreless for most of the second half and claimed their first lead to polish off a 4-0 run late in the game. Samantha Barry gave the Vikings a 9-8 lead in the first overtime, but Rachel Chumbook put in the equalizer before the second extra session. Neither team could muster up a goal in the second OT period, so it was left to the sophomore Anderson to provide the heroics.

 

Caroline Wojtas scored 5 goals, Chumbook scored 4 times, and Anderson scored the key goal at the end of the game. Kim Butler also saved 17 shots including a key block in the second overtime period. Barry and Samantha DiCanio each scored 3 goals while Emma Hoffman, Megan Younker, and Nicole Degla each scored once in the loss.

 

 

STAGG SECTIONAL

Mother McAuley 18 Richards 6

Fran Williamson poured in 8 goals to lead the Mighty Macs past Richards 18-6 on Friday. Misty Gardner put in 4 scores in the loss for the Bulldogs.

 

Bremen 11 Sandburg 10

Hannah Schultz poured in 8 goals and the Red Jaguars fended off a late rally to beat Sandburg 11-10 on Friday night. Sarah Dolitsky scored 6 times in the loss for the Eagles.
