Barrington Sectional
Palatine 14 Buffalo Grove 9
Ian Rodriguez scored on all three of
his shot attempts as Buffalo Grove stayed even with Palatine at the end of
the first quarter 3-3. Jeremy Stanton scored 2 times to lead a balanced
attack by the Pirates in the first half, but the Bison added a last second
goal at the end of the half as Victor Sanyn notched his firs goal of the
game to tie the score at 6-6. In the third quarter, Brad Ferris registered
4 scores to help Palatine build a solid lead, but Dan Striev and Matt
O'Rourke both scored late in the period to cut the Pirates' lead to 12-9
entering the final quarter.
The Pirates outscore the Bison 2-0 in
the last period to emerge with a 14-9 win and advance to the Barrington
Sectional finals. Ferris ended up with 6 goals and Stanton totaled 4 goals
to lead the Pirates to the win. Rodriguez scored 4 times to lead Buffalo
Grove in the losing effort.
McHenry 13 Schaumburg 8
Andrew Hertel and Phil Lesniak each
scored goals in the opening period for McHenry, but Schaumburg's Randy
Carr has notched 2 goals of his own as the teams finished the opening
period of play in a 2-2 deadlock. The teams traded goals in the second
quarter, but the defenses have been solid and the low-scoring affair goes
to halftime tied at 3-3.
The Warriors started to put things
together in the third period, as they went on a 6-2 run to break the
halftime tie and take a 9-5 lead into the final quarter. Reilly Shanahan
scored 3 times during the run, while Lesniak, Matt Feltes, and Tim Briscoe
each scored one time in the period. Carr added his third goal of the game
and Brandon Kase also scored once in the third quarter, though the Saxons
found themselves trailing 9-5 with seven minutes remaining in regulation.
The Saxons could get no closer in the last period, as the Warriors
outscored them 4-3 to close the game out and earn a 13-8 victory on
Friday.
Feltes and Shanahan both ended the
contest with 4 scores apiece, while Phil Lesniak also scored 2 times.
Randy Carr scored 4 goals, Brandon Kase added 2 scores, and Saxons' goalie
Mike George stopped 10 shots in the losing effort.
GBS Sectional
Loyola 9 Glenbrook South 5
The Ramblers outscored
Glenbrook South 7-3 in the second half after the teams were tied at 2-2 at
halftime to advance to the GBS Sectional finals on Friday. TJ Considine
scored 4 goals and Frank Toops added 3 scores in the victory for Loyola.
Charlie Dowdle also scored 2 times in the win for the Ramblers. Igor
Gryniv totaled 2 goals and Tom Meyer made 13 saves, including two penalty
shot blocks for GBS. JJ Connor, Will Porter, and Zach Demertzis also
chipped in one goal apiece in the loss for the Titans.
New Trier 14 Glenbrook
North 8
Glenbrook North led 4-1 in
the early stages of their matchup with New Trier, but the Trevians put
together a 13-3 run throughout the remainder of the game to emerge with a
14-8 win over the Spartans. Matt McClone led the way for NT with 7 goals,
while Konrad VonMoltke and James Bartels both scored 3 times and goalie
Sam Buchman stopped 19 shots in the win. Tytus Kwiatkowski put in 5 goals
in the loss for the Spartans.
LWC Sectional
Homewood-Flossmoor 11 Lincoln-Way
North 10
Alex Diorio and Russell Maanum both
scored in the opening period for H-F, but Cody Van Etten notched a first
period goal and Nick Roberts tied the game at 2-2 as the horn sounded to
end the first period. Jake Roberts scored on LWN's first chance of the
second quarter to give the Phoenix a 3-2 lead, but Shay Banton evened the
game at 3-3 and Kevin Kuchta put the Vikings back in front 4-3 late in the
first half. LWN grabs a goal before the break to send the game to halftime
tied at 4-4.
In the second half, Banton and Nick
Roberts traded goals as the score remained tied, then Jake Bodnar made a
big stop on a LWN breakaway chance. On the other end, Diorio added his
second goal of the game to put the Vikings ahead 6-5, but Kyler VanSwol
and Nick Roberts scored consecutive goals to put the Phoenix back in front
7-6. Kuchta tallied his second goal late in the period to get the Vikings
even, then Banton scored with one second left in the quarter to put H-F
ahead 8-7 with seven minutes remaining.
Luke Dobben gave the Vikings a
two-goal cushion with the first goal of the final period, but VanSwol drew
an ejection, scored his second goal of the contest, then added another
score on the next possession for the Phoenix to bring the game to a 9-9
tie midway through the last quarter.
Alec Wojack scored an early goal for
the Vikings in the final period to give them a 10-9 advantage, but Van
Etten connected on the game-tying goal in a pressure-filled final period.
Banton, who totaled 4 goals to lead the Vikings, scored on an outside side
late in the final period and the goal holds up as Homewood-Flossmoor
advances to the sectional finals with an 11-10 victory over Lincoln-Way
North.
Lincoln-Way East 7 Lincoln-Way
Central 3
Kenny Hultquist and Ryan Rys both
scored early goals to give LWE a 2-0 lead, but Jacob Bernard cut the
Griffins' lead in half with a goal late in the opening period. After an
ejection, Brandon Spratt put the Griffins ahead 3-1, but Joe Caffarini
found Dave Smith open, and his goal cut the advantage down to 3-2 late in
the first half. Before the break, Ryan Stuart added a goal for LWE as they
had built a 4-2 lead at halftime.
In the third period, Hultquist added
his second goal to put the Griffins' in front 5-2. The Griffins' defense
held the Knights without a goal in the quarter, as they remained in front
by three goals as the teams entered the final period. Steve Walczak
increased the LWE lead to 6-2 with his first goal, but Petar Jackovich
tried to keep the Knights within striking distance with his first goal of
the contest. It was all for naught, however, as Hultquist recorded his
third goal of the fixture and the Griffins' defense did the rest as LWE
advanced to the sectional finals with a 7-3 win over LWC.
Neuqua Valley Sectional
Naperville Central 21 Naperville
North 5
Kyle Rickert scored 6 goals, Jay
Howenstine added 4 goals, and both Kristian Altuve and Ryan Stanley scored
3 goals as Naperville Central rolled to a 21-5 victory over Naperville
North in the first semifinal game at the Neuqua Valley Sectional on
Friday. Austin Katz and Jack Henderson both netted 2 goals in the loss for
the Huskies.
Waubonsie Valley 14 Neuqua Valley

Mike McWhirter totaled 5 goals and Joe
Poletto, Kyle Apple, and Tyler Hunt each scored 2 times as Waubonsie
Valley beat Neuqua Valley in overtime 14-12. Mike Rooney scored 6 times
and AJ Quebbeman added goals in the loss for the Wildcats.
UIC Sectional
St Ignatius 18 Juarez 3
Jack Turek and Tom Maloney both
recorded 3 goals to help lift St Ignatius to an 18-3 victory over Juarez
on Friday at UIC.
Latin 15 Young 6
Jacob Himmel scored 5 goals and AJ
Galainena chipped in with 3 scores to help lead Latin to a 15-6 semifinal
win over Young.
Vernon Hills Sectional
Stevenson 13 Lake Forest 9
Alex Rembialkowski scored 5 goals and
Josh Hodges added 4 scores to lead Stevenson to a 13-9 win over Lake
Forest.
GIRLS
Barrington Sectional
Fremd 12 Buffalo Grove 1
Erika Lauraitis scored 5 goals and Samantha DelPrado
added 4 scores to lead Fremd to a 12-1 victory over Buffalo Grove in the
first semifinal at Barrington on Friday. Sam Matuszewski added 2 scores
and Emily Orlowski scored once in the win, while goalie Julie Conrath made
12 saves and allowed just one goal to Buffalo Grove's Angela Rodriguez.
Barrington 11 Schaumburg 8
Erika Elliott recorded 5 goals as Barrington held
off Schaumburg 11-8 to advance to the sectional final game at their home
pool on Saturday. The Saxons kept things close behind 3 goals from Krissy
Bessler, 2 scores from Corinne Trujillo, and 12 saves and a goal from
keeper Jackie Sumsky.
GBS Sectional
Loyola 17 Prospect 7
Maeve O'Connor scored 10 goals as Loyola pulled away
from Prospect in the second half to earn a 17-7 victory on Friday in the
first semifinal of the GBS Secti onal.
Ashley Letrich added 3 goals for the Ramblers in the win, while Lisa Mazur
scored 3 goals in the loss for the Knights.
New Trier 9
Evanston 4
Erisa Apantaku totaled 4 goals, Sophia Palmer added 3
scores, and goalie Zara Wysockey made 16 saves to lead the Trevians to a
9-4 win over Evanston.
LWC Sectional
Homewood-Flossmoor 5
Lincoln-Way East 4
In a hardcore defensive battle,
the Griffins and Vikings ended the first period with no score. Julie
Warren opened the scoring for LWE midway through the second period, and
the Griffins continued to shutout H-F after fourteen minutes of play.
Rebecca Mathews tied the score for the Vikings early in the third period,
then she connected on a penalty shot to give H-F their first lead at 2-1.
Before the quarter ended, Mary Reilly of LWE evened the score at 2-2 with
a goal, and the teams headed into the final period of regulation with the
game hanging in the balance.
Mathews put the Vikings
ahead once again, scoring on a breakaway goal early in the final period,
and H-F clinged to a 3-2 lead for much of the fourth quarter. But Alyssa
Toland notched her first goal in the final minute of regulation and the
teams were tied again at 3-3 with 0:40 left to play. After a stop, the
Griffins drew an ejection and Warren scored her second goal with 0:16 left
on the clock and LWE held a 4-3 lead with one possession left in the game.
Hannah Ongman tied the game at
4-4 on what seemed like the Vikings' last possession of regulation. But in
the final seconds, East attempted a game-winning shot that sailed over the
goal, and the Vikings' called a timeout to setup a final play. H-F goalie
Sophie Schloen then found Ongman open at half tank after play resumed, and
her last second shot at the buzzer went into the corner of the net to send
Homewood-Flossmoor to the sectional finals with a 5-4 win.
Lincoln-Way
Central 8 Bremen 5
LWC outscored Bremen 6-1 in the
second half after a nervous start to earn an 8-5 win and advance to the
sectional finals against Homewood-Flossmoor on Saturday. Danijela
Jackovich scored 4 goals and Jamie Graf scored 2 key fourth quarter goals
to put the game away for the Knights. Cassie Jo Miller scored 2 times to
lead the Bremen offensive attack.
In the opening quarter, Bremen
jumped out to a 3-0 lead behind goals from Nora Plank, Emma Martinus, and
Catherine Vivado. But Jackovich scored 2 straight goals for the Knights to
get the score to 3-2 at the end of the first quarter. In the second
quarter, Miller scored her first goal after an ejection and the
Bremen defense did not allow a goal to take a 4-2 lead into halftime.
Jackovich scored her third goal
to open the second half, getting the Knights to within a goal. Markie
Kulovitz followed that effort with a goal off a pass from goaltender
Kelsey Martiniak (15 saves), and the two teams were knotted up at 4-4
early in the third period. Miller helped Bremen bounce back with a goal
midway through the period as they reclaimed a 5-4 advantage.
In the fourth quarter, Jackovich
netted her fourth goal of the contest to tie the score at 5-5 with five
minutes remaining. Then, midway through the period, Jess Graf notched her
first goal of the game and gave the Knights their first lead. Jamie Graf
continued the LWC surge with a goal with under three minutes to play, and
the Knights had built a 7-5 lead over Bremen. Jamie Graf scored her
second straight goal of the fourth quarter to give LWC an 8-5 lead as
their 4-0 run put them in the driver's seat with two minutes remaining.
The Knights were able to shutdown Bremen's offensive attack in the final
minutes as they went on to win 8-5 with a dominant second half
performance.
Neuqua
Valley Sectional
Naperville
Central 18 Neuqua Valley 8
Tori Davis scored 3 times during
a 6-0 first quarter burst and totaled 5 goals for the game as Naperville
Central beat Neuqua Valley 18-8 on Friday at the NV Sectional. Abbey Kerth
poured in 6 goals, Claire Fleming scored 3 times, and goalie Julia
Campbell made 20 saves in the victory for the Redhawks. Jenn Nehls tallied
3 scores and Abbie Marone added 2 goals in the loss for the Wildcats.
Waubonsie
Valley 9 Naperville North 7
The Warriors held off a late
surge by Naperville North to earn a 9-7 win over the Huskies to advance to
the sectional finals at Neuqua Valley. Naperville North trailed 8-3
entering the final quarter, but the Huskies 4-1 run was not enough to
overcome the Warriors' lead.
Alex White, Cara Stack, and
Isabelle Langheim each scored 2 times in the win for Waubonsie Valley.
Lindsay Jansen registered 3 scores for the Huskies in the loss.

St Ignatius 13
Lane 7
Kate Stelnicki scored 5 times as
the Wolpack battled back from an early 3-2 deficit to defeat Lane 13-7 on
Friday night.
Young 7 Latin
5
The low-scoring affair between
Young and Latin also went back and forth and the Dolphins eventually
pulled away from the Romans to secure a 7-5 win in the second semifinal at
the UIC Sectional. Young started out strong, building a 2-0 lead, but
Latin ran off four straight goals to claim a 4-2 lead by the middle of the
second quarter. The Dolphins had a quick response, as Gabi Cabrera, Yadi
Casimiro, and Susana Zizumbo each tallied goals during a 3-0 run that put
Young on top 5-4 at halftime. The Dolphins' defense was the key in the
second half, as they held Latin without a goal until the final minute of
the fourth period, in which Young had already bulit a 7-4 lead. Cabrera
and Zizumbo both scored 3 times and Casimiro scored the other goal in the
win for the Dolphins.
Vernon Hills
Sectional
Mundelein 12
Hersey 3
Alexis Jones scored 6 goals and
Jacqui Lodor added 2 scores to push Mundelein into the sectional finals
with a 12-3 victory over Hersey on Friday night. Allison Williams,
Christine Rovani, and Meg Nolan each tallied one goal for the Huskies.
Stevenson 10
Wheeling 9
Karen Lowry scored 8 goals,
including 6 scores in the second half, as Stevenson edged Wheeling 10-9 to
move on to the sectional final game at Vernon Hills. The Patriots trailed
the Wildcats 4-3 at halftime, but after Lowry and Christa Khatcherian
traded goals in the beginning stages of the second half, Lowry and
Cheyenne Montijo both recorded goals to give Stevenson a 6-5 lead. Lowry
then traded goals with both Khatcherian and Amy Wilson in the fourth
quarter, then she added her seventh goal with under two minutes remaining
to give Stevenson a 9-7 lead. Wilson tallied her third goal of the game at
the 1:11 mark to make the score 9-8, but Lowry added an insurance goal in
the final minute before Wilson scored with 0:20 left to get Wheeling with
10-9. The Patriots were able to run out the clock in the waning seconds of
regulation in order to move on to the next round. Wilson scored 4 goals,
Khatcherian added 3 scores, and Emily Sullivan had 2 goals in the loss for
Wheeling. |
