Girls' Sectional Previews

THURSDAY'S NEWS/NOTES

The sectional final games of the UIC Sectional have been relocated to Lyons. The girls will play at 2:30pm and will be followed by the boys game at 3:45pm on Saturday.

BOYS

GIRLS

Barrington Sectional

Fremd 17 Palatine 4

Erika Lauraitis totaled 11 goals and Megan Kennedy added 4 scores as Fremd defeated Palatine 17-4 in the first quarterfinal game at Barrington on Thursday. Cyndi Bergloff, Katie Brown, Katy Jo Peters, and Nicole Huffman each tallied one score in the loss for the Pirates.

 

Buffalo Grove 12 Conant 6

Kathryn Emerson scored 6 goals and Angela Rodriguez added 3 scores to lead Buffalo Grove to a 12-6 victory over Conant. Nicki Delaney, Roni Rebish, and Sara Fasching also scored one goal apiece in the win for the Bison. Six players scored one goal apiece for the Cougars in the loss.

 

Schaumburg 17 Meadows 4

Jackie Sumsky saved 17 shots and eight Saxons recorded goals in Schaumburg's 17-4 victory over Rolling Meadows.

 

Barrington 17 Hoffman 5

The Fillies got off to a quick start and led Hoffman 12-1 at halftime before emerging with a 17-5 victory over the Hawks on Thursday. Erika Elliott led Barrington with 7 goals, while Molly Burke scored 3 times and Catherine Byron chipped in with 2 goals in the win. Rachel Gallo and Sharon Sturnfield each scored 2 goals in the loss for Hoffman.

 

GBS Sectional

Loyola 22 Maine West 6

Rachel Nieman scored 6 goals, Ashley Letrich added 5 scores, Krissy Durkin scored 3 times, and both Maeve O'Connor and Sarah Gross scored 2 goals as Loyola started the game off with a 9-0 advantage en route to a 22-6 win over Maine West. Gigi Groener recorded 5 goals in the loss for the Warriors.

 

New Trier 9 St Viator 2

Erisa Apantaku scored 2 goals and Zara Wysockey made 17 saves as New Trier defeated St Viator 9-2. Anna Horskotte, Anna Stern, Casey Wilson, Erika Nothnagel, Paige Patterson, Sophia Palmer, and Samantha Medland all scored one goal for the Trevians. Alli Lardner and Emily Benas each scored once in the loss for the Lions.

 

Evanston 12 Glenbrook South 6

Ellis O'Connor scored 4 times and Abby Bailey added 2 goals to lift Evanston to a 12-6 win over GBS. Laura Moderhock tallied 3 scores to lead the Titans in the losing effort.

 

LWC Sectional

Homewood-Flossmoor 12 Lincoln-Way West 3

Rebecca Mathews totaled 6 goals and Michelle Mayer scored 2 times to help lift H-F to a 12-3 victory over LWW. Allison Rocha tallied 2 scores in the loss for the Warriors.

 

Lincoln-Way East 8 Andrew 7 (2 OT)

Abby Maze scored in the second minute of sudden death overtime (1:56 remaining) to help Lincoln-Way East get past Andrew 8-7 on Thursday. The T-Bolts trailed 5-4 at the end of the third quarter, but Kelly McDonough's goal midway through the final period (3:31) eventually sent the game to overtime. Alyssa Toland put the Griffins ahead with two goals in overtime, but Kelly Baumgartner sent the game to sudden death with the second of her goals in extra time for Andrew.

 

Toland and Mary Reilly both scored 3 times in the win for the Griffins, while Maze and Brittany Becvar each added goals for LWE. Baumgartner led the T-Bolts with 4 scores, while McDonough, Amanda Kuchan, and Leah McCarthy each added one goal for Andrew.

 

Bremen 8 LWN 3

Catherine Vivado scored 2 goals and six other players added one goal each for Bremen as they built a 5-0 lead by halftime and beat Lincoln-Way North 8-3. Janna Tasic scored 3 times in the loss for the Phoenix.

 

Lincoln-Way Central 9 Marian 3

Jamie Graf scored 3 goals, Danijela Jackovich and Markie Kulovitz each recorded 2 scores, and Kelsey Martiniak made 12 saves to help lead LWC to a 9-3 victory over Marian. The Knights led 8-0 at halftime and did not allow a goal until the final period in the win.

 

Lyons Sectional

LT Stays Perfect and Grabs Sixth Shutout of 2010 Season

#1 Lyons got their title chase started in fine fashion with a 14-0 shutout win over Argo on Thursday in Western Springs. The perfect game was the sixth of the season for goalie Grace Trilla and the Lions' defense. They will take on Richards in the semifinals, as the Bulldogs held off Stagg 8-5 in the second quarterfinal of the night. Mother McAuley also had no problems advancing, as they topped Shepard 18-1 in the third quarterfinal. They will play Sandburg in Friday's second semifinal after the Eagles earned a win over R-B.

 

Neuqua Valley Sectional

Naperville Central 16 STC East 6

Claire Fleming recorded 5 goals and Emily Sejna added 4 scores as Naperville Central moved on to the semifinals of the NV Sectional with an 18-6 win over STC East. Colleen Stern also scored 2 times, Gracie May added a goal and 5 steals, and goalie Julia Campbell made 14 saves in the win for the Redhawks. Kala Sigona scored 3 goals and Juliet Suess added 2 scores for the Saints in the loss.

 

Neuqua Valley 7 Hinsdale South 4

Jessica Zimmerman and Tricia Bannister both scored 2 times as Neuqua Valley pulled away from Hinsdale South in the final period to earn a 7-4 win and a date with Naperville Central in Friday's sectional semifinals. Danielle Cirrintano stopped 12 shots in the victory for the Wildcats. Hilary Veselik scored 2 times for the Hornets in the losing effort.

 

Waubonsie Valley 20 Lockport 3

Ember McCoy scored 5 times and Alex White, Cara Stack, and Nikki Mandl each added 3 scores in the Warriors' 20-3 triumph over Lockport. Amy Slana also chipped in 2 goals for Waubonsie in the win. Jackie Bart tallied 2 goals in the loss for the Porters.

 

Naperville North 12 Hinsdale Central 2

The Huskies shutout the Red Devils for the last three quarters after leading 3-2 in the opening period and emerged with a 12-2 win on Thursday to advance to the semifinals of the Neuqua Valley Sectional. Lindsay Jansen totaled 5 goals and Taylor Bridgman put in 3 scores in the victory for North.

 

UIC Sectional

Young 17 Von Steuben 3

Gabi Cabrera tallied 8 goals and both Sydney Burdin and Yadi Casimiro scored 2 times to help Young advance to the second round of the UIC Sectional with a 17-3 decision over Von Steuben.

 

Vernon Hills Sectional

Mundelein 17 Lake Forest 1

Evelyn Kurzac scored 7 goals and Emily Tylka made 12 saves as Mundelein built off of a 7-0 first quarter lead en route to a 17-1 victory over Lake Forest on Thursday. Jacqui Lodor added 3 scores and Alexis Jones and Amy Klink both scored 2 times in the win for the Mustangs. Megan Salzer scored the lone goal for the Scouts.

 

Hersey 7 Deerfield 5

Meg Nolan recorded 4 goals and 7 steals to lead the Huskies to a 7-5 victory over Deerfield on Thursday night. Caroline Stoklosa, Christine Rovani, and Meg Anderluh also notched goals in the win for Hersey, who broke a 4-4 tie in the second half with two straight goals to hold off the Warriors. Phoebe Del Greco scored 3 times for Deerfield while goalie Nicole Grevers made 13 saves in the loss.

 

Stevenson 10 Highland Park 3

Cheyenne Montijo scored 7 goals, drew 6 ejections, and made 6 steals to lead the Patriots to a 10-3 victory over Highland Park. Sam Petti also scored 2 times and Lisa Michalowski made 12 saves in the win for SHS. Mika Hasak scored 2 goals and Marianna Irwin made 10 saves in the loss for the Giants.

 

Wheeling 13 Libertyville 3

Amy Wilson scored 5 times, Christa Khatcherian added 3 goals, and Leah Molsom and Ryan Griesmeier both recorded 2 goals as Wheeling defeated Libertyville 13-3. Emily Sullivan also added a goal in the win for the Wildcats.

Andrew vs Lincoln-Way East

Amazingly, two of the state's Top 25 teams meet in the first round of the LWC Sectional, so expect a hard-fought game that comes down to the wire between Andrew and Lincoln-Way East on Thursday afternoon.

 

INTRIGUING MATCHUP #2

Neuqua Valley Sectional

Hinsdale South vs Neuqua Valley

The Hornets and Wildcats have yet to meet in 2010, making this a truly "intriguing" contest that takes place at 5:45pm in Naperville.
