WEDNESDAY'S GAME PREVIEWS

SECTIONAL TO KEEP AN EYE ON:

LWC Sectional

Just to give an idea of how wide-open the chase for the state qualifying berth at the Lincoln-Way Central Sectional is, consider the fact that the sixth-seed (Lincoln-Way East) just beat the top-seed (Homewood-Flossmoor) 8-6 as recently as last week. Then add the fact that a well-coached Sandburg team that qualified for state last year enters the competition as the fifth-seed, and you have all the makings of a wild and crazy evening of water polo in New Lenox on Wednesday. Meanwhile, contenders like LWC, Andrew, and LWN would all like to get their postseason campaigns underway in strong fashion. Who will survive the opening night of the boys' quarterfinals at LWC? Stay tuned.

INTRIGUING MATCHUP #1

GBS Sectional

New Trier vs Evanston

The Trevians won both meetings between the two teams in 2010 and are coming off a weekend where they won two close games to win the CSL Tournament. They should not overlook the Wildkits, however, who are familiar with New Trier's style of play and have the benefit of playing this contest at a neutral site.

INTRIGUING MATCHUP #2

Barrington Sectional

Buffalo Grove vs Conant

The Bison are coming off a season in which they won the MSL East, and a win here would mean a potential rematch with the team they lost to in the MSL title game (Palatine). Meanwhile, Conant is coming off a second-place finish at the Vernon Hills Tournament over the weekend, which included a win over Lincoln-Way North, so they enter this game feeling optimistic about their chances.

INTRIGUING MATCHUP #3

Neuqua Valley Sectional

Neuqua Valley vs Lockport

The Wildcats beat the Porters 16-10 one week ago and have the advantage of playing at home. But Lockport's early season win over Naperville North shows that they can compete with the top teams in the Neuqua Valley Sectional, and they'll be looking to prove that point tomorrow night when they take on AJ Quebbeman, Mike Rooney, and the Wildcats.
