Saturday's Game Recaps
Fenwick 13 Loyola 7
Colleen Barron scored 6 goals and Catie Wallace netted 4 scores as the
Friars beat Loyola 13-7 to move to the title game of the MCAC
Tournament. Marta Considine scored 4 times, Alana Dean scored 2 goals,
Emily Barr chipped in with one score, and Colleen Ahern stopped 12 shots
in the Ramblers' loss.
St Ignatius 11 Mother McAuley 3
Tammy Stelnicki recorded 5 goals to lead St Ignatius to an 11-3 victory
over Mother McAuley on Saturday in the Catholic League Tournament
semifinals.
Mother McAuley 11 Loyola 10
Fran Williamson drilled a shot from 7m with just over one minute
remaining to lift Mother McAuley over Loyola 11-10 in the consolation
game of the MCAC Tournament. Clare Bryar registered 5 scores and
Williamson scored 4 times in the win for the Mighty Macs. Marta
Considine led the Ramblers with 5 goals, Claire Voss netted 4 scores,
and Emily Barr tallied one score in the losing effort. Colleen Ahern led
the defense with 11 saves.
Fenwick 8 St Ignatius 7
Colleen Barron scored the game-winning goal after collecting her penalty
shot attempt that hit the left post to lift Fenwick to an 8-7 victory
over St Ignatius that saw the Friars win the MCAC Tournament. The goal
finished off a 3-0 run in the closing stages of a tightly-contested
Catholic League final, a rally which started when goalie Lexi Buglio
made a save and assisted Catie Wallace on a counterattack goal a few
minutes earlier. Barron also scored a key goal from 7m to tie the game
before providing the additional heroics for the hosts.
The Wolfpack looked like they had control of the contest earlier in the
second half, as Tammy Stelnicki converted a penalty shot, Maggie Maloney
scored on a lob shot from the left side, and Stelnicki made a perimeter
steal and went coast-to-coast to score and give SICP a 7-5 advantage.
But the Friars' defense did not allow a goal in the game's final six
minutes, which played a key role in their comeback.
Earlier in the game, Maloney put the Wolfpack ahead 1-0, but Wallace
responded with 2 straight goals and Barron gave Fenwick a 3-1 advantage
late in the opening period. Diana Fernandez got the Wolfpack to within
one with a goal at the end of the period, but Wallace quickly responded
once again to give Fenwick a 4-2 lead. St Ignatius finished the first
half with goals from Fernandez and Stephania Lopez, tying the score at
4-4 at halftime.
Wallace led the Friars with 4 goals, Barron notched 3 scores, and Alexa
Ovalle scored a key second half goal. Fernandez, Stelnicki, and Maloney
each scored 2 goals and Lopez added one score in the loss for the
Wolfpack.
