FENWICK SECTIONAL

Fenwick 22 Resurrection 5

Cara Borkovec recorded 5 goals and Maggie Sheean notched 4 scores as Fenwick earned a bit of revenge with a 22-5 win over Resurrection in the quarterfinal round of their own sectional. Colleen Barron put in 3 goals while Alexa Ovalle, and Janette Angelini, and Haley Wickham each tallied 2 scores in the win.

 

Maine South 17 Morton 5

 

Lyons 12 R-B 2

Blair Hopwood scored 6 times and Carly Strass totaled 2 goals and drew 6 ejections to lead the Lions to a 12-2 win over Riverside-Brookfield. Tegan Moore also recorded 17 saves in the win for Lyons.

 

York 8 Oak Park 7

Jess Sacksteder scored 3 goals and Kirsten Rasnic added 2 scores as York earned an 8-7 upset win over Oak Park on Wednesday. Abby Riehs and the York defense put the clamps down on the Huskies in the second half, while the Dukes used a 4-2 run in the third period to take control of the game. Anna Vogel and Katie Appell scored 2 goals apiece while Jordin Hale and Zoe Erickson combined to save 9 shots in the loss for OPRF. Read the quarter-by-quarter updates below:

 

QUARTER 1

Grace Achepohl and Katie Appell traded goals in the opening period as the WSC teams finished the first seven minutes of their quarterfinal round game tied at 1-1.

 

QUARTER 2

Appell added her second goal to help Oak Park take a 3-2 lead into halftime. Kirsten Rasnic helped keep the Dukes within one of the Huskies with a second-period goal as well.

 

QUARTER 3

York outscored Oak Park 4-2 in the third period as Jess Sacksteder recorded 3 goals and Perri Brinkmeier added a goal during the run.

 

QUARTER 4

Carly Redmond and Rasnic each scored once in the final quarter and the York defense kept the Huskies at bay down the stretch to earn an 8-7 upset win on Wednesday night.

 

 

FREMD SECTIONAL

Barrington 12 Hoffman 4

Kelly Meckert and Sam Gavars both scored 4 goals and Catherine Byron and Lisa Danhauer each tallied 2 scores in the Fillies' 12-4 win over Hoffman. Grace Buenrostro made 10 blocks in the victory for the sectional's top seed. Jessica Sullivan netted 2 goals and both Nicole Kasman and Kasia Serwin each put in one score in the Hawks' loss.

 

Conant 7 Elk Grove 6

Carmen Rosas scored 3 goals and both Angie Skittone and Deana Becker each recorded 2 goals as the Cougars held off Elk Grove 7-6 in the second quarterfinal at the Fremd Sectional. Maddy Demaret made 20 saves and Emily Weingart drew 3 ejections and made 4 steals in the Conant victory. Kathryn Noonan tallied 3 scores, Christine Juhas put in 2 goals, and Alexa Zajac scored one goal in the losing effort.

 

Fremd 13 St Viator 4

Tori Boldt scored 4 times and Loretta Stelnicki and Mandy Borre chipped in with 2 goals apiece as Fremd downed St Viator 13-4.

 

Hersey 8 Schaumburg 5

The Huskies broke a 3-3 tie in the first half and pulled away from the Saxons to advance to the sectional semifinal round with an 8-5 victory on Wednesday. Ashley Johnson and Britney Vasquez both recorded 2 goals and Jessica Sumsky stopped 12 shots in the loss for Schaumburg.

 

 

GBN SECTIONAL

New Trier 16 Highland Park 1

Alexana Astor recorded 7 goals as the Trevians began their sectional title defense with a 16-1 win over Highland Park. Kelsey Willian netted 3 goals and Liz Joyce put in 2 scores for the victors on Wednesday. Maddie Gelberg scored the lone goal in the loss for the Giants.

 

Glenbrook North 5 Maine East 3

Kerry Goodspeed and the GBN defense helped limit Maine East to just 3 goals as they defeated the Blue Demons for the second time in five days by a 5-3 margin on Wednesday. Goodspeed totaled 16 blocks while Vladi Milutinovic scored 3 goals and Lindsay Fraser notched 2 scores in the victory. Christina Peter, Medina Husejnovic, and Sandra Kietlinska each recorded one score in the losing effort for Maine East. The Spartans advance to face New Trier in the semifinal round, a team they lost to 17-5 last Saturday.

 

Loyola 18 Maine West 8

Evan Swenson poured in 7 goals and Marta Considine notched 4 scores in Loyola's 18-8 win over Maine West. Alison Sajnaj also scored 3 times, Claire Voss put in 2 goals, and Meredith O'Brien totaled 5 saves and 3 steals for the Ramblers. Carly Romano totaled 6 goals in the loss for the Warriors.

 

Glenbrook South 9 Prospect 8

Anne Edwards and Jessie Kerndt each scored 3 goals and Maggie Dietrich, Reba Abu Hashim, and Sarah Grieve each scored once as the Titans emerged with a 9-8 win over Prospect. Ellie McGough recorded 4 goals and Emily Rigopolous netted 3 scores in the loss for the Knights.

 

 

LWN SECTIONAL

Lincoln-Way Central 13 Homewood-Flossmoor 5

Danijela Jackovich and Liz Klock both recorded 5 goals to help lead the Knights past the Vikings 13-5 on Wednesday night. Central built an 8-0 lead at the half before advancing to the sectional semifinals with the win. Michelle Dundek added 2 goals and Kristi Howe scored once in the victory for the Knights. Amber Barney tallied 2 scores in the loss for H-F.

 

Lincoln-Way East 12 Marian 7

Haley McCabe and Taryn Linke both registered 3 scores as the Griffins' built an early 4-1 lead and never looked back in a 12-7 win over Marian. Jill Connolly also made 12 saves and Erica Mangia tallied 2 scores in the victory for the Griffins. Paige Weiser recorded 4 goals and Grave Van Beest netted 2 goals in the loss for the Spartans.

 

Lincoln-Way North 12 Lincoln-Way West 3

Cheyenne DeGraff notched 4 scores and Niki Beringer put in 2 scores as the Phoenix earned a convincing 12-3 win over LWW on Wednesday. Gena Tanquilut, Michelle Fairbairn, and Sarah Suppes each recorded one goal in the loss for the Warriors.

 

Lockport 6 Bradley 5

Christine Bafia scored 3 goals and Rachel Unger blocked 11 shots to help Lockport stun Bradley 6-5 on Wednesday evening. The Porters led 4-3 at halftime and led by two late in the game before Celine Dalde trimmed the lead to one with a goal in the final minute. The Lockport defense later forced a turnover on Bradley's final possession to secure the narrow victory.

 

 

MUNDELEIN SECTIONAL

Mundelein 19 Vernon Hills 5

Allison Boothe racked up 7 goals and Karrie Kozokar netted 4 scores as Mundelein rolled to a 19-5 victory over Vernon Hills. Courtney Perreault also scored 3 times for the Mustangs, who built a 14-1 halftime lead en route to the win. Lauren Wood and Morgan Levy both scored 2 goals in the loss for the Cougars.

 

Libertyville 9 Palatine 8

Devika Joshi, Julia Ahlgrim, and Sarah Durning each scored 3 goals as Libertyville staved off a second-half rally from the Pirates to earn a 9-8 victory. The Wildcats built a 6-2 lead at the break, but Rachel Chumbook (5 goals) helped Palatine mount a comeback that came up one goal short. Caroline Wojtas scored 2 times, Bianca Casteneda scored one goal, and Kim Butler stopped 10 shots in the losing effort.

 

Stevenson 15 Lake Forest 2

Alex Kanaris, Bridget Wynn, Brittany Gartenberg, and Melissa Gartenberg all tallied 4 scores to help the Patriots earn a 15-2 win over Lake Forest. Allison Travetto also scored 2 times and Alexa Kotylar netted one goal in the Stevenson win. Becky Callen (10 saves) and Lauren Burns (3 saves) combined to allow just 2 goals in the winning effort. Abby Warren and Maddie Locey each scored once in the Scouts' loss.

 

Wheeling 6 Buffalo Grove 4

Kat Dobrowski put in 2 goals and Emily Sowa, Rachel Ropski, Shannon Richards, and Theresa Godlewski each scored once as Wheeling fended off Buffalo Grove 6-4. Keara Myatt also made 8 saves in the win for the Wildcats. Buffalo Grove goalie Callie Fasching recorded a dozen saves and kept the Bison in the game, but their 2-0 run in the fourth quarter wasn't enough to earn the comeback win.

 

 

NEUQUA SECTIONAL

Naperville North 18 STC East 1

The Huskies utilized a balanced attack that saw nine players record goals in their 18-1 victory over STC North. Dani DiMatteo led the way with 4 goals, while both Taylor Bridgman and Taylor Stoner each put in 3 scores. Caitlin Holzer and Jillian Eiken both chipped in with 2 goals, and Helen Wei, Katie Anderson, Kim Lechowicz, and Katie Horn all scored once for the victors. Sarah Ditch put in one goal in the loss for the Saints.

 

Neuqua Valley 8 Hinsdale Central 7

The Wildcats built a 4-0 halftime lead and held on to edge Hinsdale Central 8-7 at their own sectional on Wednesday night. Morgan Miller scored 3 goals and Brooke Bedford and Deanna Hoff both netted 2 goals in Neuqua's win. Sarah Pircon scored 4 times and Liza Gross netted 3 goals for the Red Devils during a furious second half rally that saw them tie the score at 6-6 before the hosts inched ahead to grab a late winner.

 

Naperville Central 14 Waubonsie Valley 2

Kristina Altuve scored 4 times and Kaela Codo netted 3 scores as the Redhawks beat Waubonsie Valley 14-2 on Wednesday. Madison Nervig and Michelle Spaits combined to make 9 steals to lead a defense that totaled 21 takeaways on the night. Nervig also scored 2 goals in the winning effort for Central. Molly Devine and Samantha Holzschu each scored once in the loss for the Warriors.

 

STC North 11 Metea Valley 4

Nicole Guyett totaled 6 goals and both Maddie Jones and Sarah Stern recorded 2 goals as the North Stars earned an 11-4 victory over Metea Valley on Wednesday. Hannah Horsfall made 11 saves while Stern and Kelsey Theile led the defense with a combined 9 steals in the winning effort.

 

 

STAGG SECTIONAL

Andrew 15 Stagg 5

Megan Hofer totaled 6 goals and 3 assists and Genny McCarthy added 3 scores in Andrew's 15-5 triumph over Stagg on Wednesday. Alicia Tebo and Courtney each added 2 scores and Anna Tamulonis made 7 saves in three quarters of action for the victorious T-Bolts, who advanced to play Mother McAuley in the semifinal round.

 

Sandburg 16 Argo 1

Alona King and the Sandburg defense allowed just one goal and a balanced offensive attack helped the Eagles secure a 16-1 victory over Argo in the sectional quarterfinal round. Lauren Olson scored 4 goals in the win for the victors.

 

Bremen 18 Richards 4

The Red Jaguars were held scoreless in the opening period but outscored the Bulldogs 11-1 in the second quarter en route to an 18-4 quarterfinal win on Wednesday. Hannah Schultz scored 8 goals to lead the third-seed to the double-digit victory. Bremen moves on to face Sandburg in the semifinal round. Lauren Bauman tallied 3 goals in the loss for the Bulldogs.

 

 

UIC SECTIONAL

St Ignatius 11 Latin 1

Jenny Stelnicki made 9 saves and allowed one goal and seven players tallied goals as St Ignatius started their playoff campaign with an 11-1 victory over Latin.

 

Evanston 7 Whitney Young 2

Yasi Nassiri registered 3 goals, both Aliya Abdelhak and Courtney Gregori put in 2 goals, and freshman goalie Olivia Everhart blocked 11 shots in Evanston's 7-2 victory over Whitney Young. The Wildkits pulled away from the Dolphins beginning in the second quarter after the teams finished the opening frame tied at 1-1. Audrey Anderson and Nya Wilkins both scored once in the loss for the Dolphins. Wilkins also made 12 saves and added 3 steals in goal for Whitney Young.

 

Lane 16 Westinghouse 12

Carmen Savolainen registered 6 goals and both Allison Cortez and Michelle Esquivel put in 2 goals as the Indians fended off Westinghouse 16-12. Alejandra Izquierdo recorded 7 goals and Jasmine Hernandez scored 4 times in the losing effort for the Lady Warriors.

 

Northside 17 Payton-Jones 3

Meghan Quigley tallied 6 goals and Diana Roback netted 3 scores to lead Northside to a 17-3 victory over Payton-Jones at the UIC Sectional on Wednesday. Jane Patzke also scored 2 times and Marti Hale blocked 12 shots in the win for NSP. In the loss, Maisie Anrod, Marlee Nork, and Rebecca Sudworth each scored one goal for the Grizzlies.
