Curie 14 Young 10
Sam Lopez recorded a massive 11
goals as Curie won the Chicago Public League title with a 14-10 win over
Young on Saturday. In the win, goalie Danny Pantoja recorded 14 saves to
help the Condors win their fourth straight Public League title. Mark
Wilcoxen, Nader Ammar, and Raul Ariza each scored 2 times in the loss for
the Dolphins.
CSL Tournament
New Trier 11 Glenbrook South 9 (Shootout)
Sam Buchman made 4 saves in a
shootout and recorded 7 saves in overtime to help lift New Trier to a 11-9
victory over Glenbrook South in the CSL Tournament semifinals on Saturday.
The Trevians trailed 8-6 with under three minutes to play, but Jake Eaton
and James Bartels both scored goals in the final two minutes of regulation
to tie the score and send the game to overtime. Each team scored one goal
in the two overtime periods before a shootout was needed to decide the
winning team. Both Jason Robb and Sam Skinner converted their attempts to
start the shootout, while Buchman did the rest of the work in goal to send
New Trier to the final game of the tournament against Glenbrook North, who
beat Evanston in the first semifinal of the day. Bartels, Konrad VonMoltke,
and Matt McClone each scored 2 goals in the win, while Matt Maley made 12
steals on the defensive end for the Trevians. Zach Demertzis scored 5
times in the loss for the Titans.
New Trier 8
Glenbrook North 7
Matt McClone scored the
game-winning goal with two minutes remaining and the Trevians defense
prevented GBN from scoring to win the CSL Tournament title 8-7 on
Saturday. McClone totaled 3 goals and Sam Buchman stopped 17 shots in the
victory for New Trier. Tytus Kwiatkowski, who had tied the game at 7-7 in
the fourth quarter, scored 3 times in the loss for the Spartans.
MCAC Tournament
Brother Rice 13 St Ignatius 9
The Crusaders advanced to the
Catholic League title game after earning a hard-fought 13-9 win over St
Ignatius in the first semifinal at Fenwick on Saturday morning. Rice had
an early 5-1 lead, but the Wolfpack cut the lead to 9-8 early in the
fourth quarter before the Crusaders closed things out with a 4-1 run. Matt
Stelnicki led Rice with 4 goals, while Kyle Pikula added 3 scores and both
Mike Mulcrone and Sean Davis scored 2 times in the win. Mark Alvarado led
the Wolfpack with 3 scores, while Brendan Moore and Jaime Juarez both
scored 2 times in the loss.
Fenwick 13
Loyola 7
Fenwick jumped out to a 4-0
leads after the first quarter and used a 5-0 run in the third period to
pull away from Loyola in the second semifinal of the Catholic League
playoffs on Saturday. John Osborne recorded 4 goals and Will Rigali added
3 scores to help lead Fenwick to a 13-7 semifinal win over Loyola. Chris
Dan and Matt Farmer also chipped in with 2 goals for the Friars, while
Connor Brown and Mike Deacy each scored once for Fenwick. TJ Considine
scored 5 goals and Connory Brennan added 2 goals in the losing effort for
the Ramblers.
St Ignatius 11
Loyola 9 (OT)
Jack Turek and Jaime Juarez each
recorded goals in overtime and the Wolfpack defense did not allow a goal
over two overtime periods as St Ignatius beat Loyola 11-9 to claim third
place in the Catholic League. St Ignatius held a seemingly comfortable 6-1
lead at halftime, but the Ramblers put together a 4-0 run in the third
period to get within one goal and tied the game late to send it into extra
time. Turek led the Wolfpack with 6 goals and Juarez added 2 scores in the
win. Frank Toops scored 4 goals to lead the Ramblers, while Charlie Dowdle
also scored 2 times in the losing effort.
Fenwick 13
Brother Rice 9
Will Rigali totaled 5 goals and
both John Osborne and Matt Farmer scored 4 times to lead Fenwick to a 13-9
win over Brother Rice to claim the Catholic League title in 2010. Matt
Stelnicki totaled 6 goals in the loss for the Crusaders.

Martinus each scored 3 goals to lift Bremen to an 11-7 win over Wheeling
on Saturday morning.

Northside 5; Lane 9 Young 8
Gabi Cabrera scored 4 times,
Yadi Casimiro added 3 scores, and Susana Zizumbo tallied 2 scores as Young
and goalie Shay Bell held Curie scoreless until the fourth quarter in an
11-1 win in the first semifinal of the CPS Tournament. The Dolphins
advanced to play Lane at 4:00pm at UIC on Saturday, as the Indians beat
Northside 8-5 in the second semifinal.
Lane 9 Young 8
Ana Chavez and Cassidy O'Connell
each scored 3 times as the Indians stunned Young 9-8 to win the Public
League Tournament on Saturday at UIC. Lane trailed 3-1 at halftime, but
they used a 4-0 run in the third quarter to take their first lead and went
ahead 9-7 late in the fourth quarter and held on for the one-goal win over
Young. Gabi Cabrera totaled 5 goals in the loss for the Dolphins; she also
scored in the last two minutes of regulation to get Young within one score
of a tie, but the Indians' defense held up down the stretch to earn the
win over Young, a team that did not lose a regular season game in the CPS
in 2010.
CSL Tournament
New Trier 7 Evanston 1
Anna Horstkotte scored 3 goals
and Zara Wysockey made 10 saves to help lead New Trier to a 7-1 win over
Evanston in the Central Suburban League title game on Saturday. Erisa
Apantaku, Maddy Urban, and Sophia Palmer each added goals in the win for
the Trevians. Abby Bailey scored the lone goal in the loss for the
Wildkits.
Earlier in the tournament,
Palmer led the Trevians to wins over GBN and Maine South, as she totaled 9
goals in the two games. In addition, Horstkotte also provided New Trier
with 6 goals in the two victories.
MCAC Tournament
St Ignatius 13 Loyola 7
The Wolfpack outscored the
Ramblers 4-0 in the opening period and never looked back as they defeated
Loyola 13-7 on Saturday in the first semifinal of the MCAC Tournament.
Celeste Almarez recorded 7 goals and both Kate Stelnicki and Stephanie
Fernandez each scored 3 times in the win for St Ignatius. Maeve O'Connor
scored 6 times for the Ramblers, while Ashley Letrich added one score in
the loss.
Fenwick 11 Mother McAuley 10 (OT)
The Friars beat Mother McAuley
11-10 in overtime in a back-and-forth game that finished in dramatic
fashion. The defenses reigned in the early stages, as the teams went into
halftime tied at 1-1. McAuley went on a 3-0 run in the third period to
lead 4-1 heading into the final seven minutes, but the Friars outscored
the Macs 7-4 to send the game into overtime. Stephanie Ovalle scored 3
goals for Fenwick, while Annie Collins, Emma McKernin, and Maggie Carey
each scored 2 times in the win. Yuri Chavez registered 4 scores, Adriana
Izquierdo added 3 goals, and Jackie Knightly put in 2 scores for the Macs
in the heartbreaking loss.
Mother McAuley
7 Loyola 6
Yuri Chavez scored on a lob shot
from five meters with 0:17 left in regulation to give Mother McAuley a 7-6
win over Loyola in the third place game of the Catholic League Tournament
on Saturday afternoon. The Macs trailed 6-5 in the final quarter, but
Vicky Arciniega scored early in the period to tie the game and Chavez
scored the decisive goal in the final minute. Loyola had a chance to tie
the game in the final seconds, but a shot by Sarah Gross hit the crossbar
and McAuley recovered to claim the win. Chavez recorded 5 goals to lead
the Macs, while Arciniega also scored 2 times in the win. Maeve O'Connor
scored 3 goals and Caitlin Sershon had 2 scores in the close loss for the
Ramblers.
Fenwick 15 St
Ignatius 13 (OT)
Stephanie Ovalle scored 9 goals,
including 2 in overtime, as Fenwick came-from-behind to beat St Ignatius
15-13 to win the MCAC Championships on Saturday night. Emma McKernin also
scored 3 times in the win, while Maggie Carey's goal sent the game to
extra time in with less than two minutes left in regulation. Kate
Stelnicki recorded 4 goals and both Celeste Almarez and Stephanie
Fernandez scored 3 times in the loss for the Wolfpack.

Mundelein Tournament
Mustangs Sweep Tournament To Prepare For Sectionals
Mundelein went 3-0 at their own
tournament, winning games over Buffalo Grove, Latin, and Prospect, as they
built up some strong momentum heading into the postseason. Evelyn Kurzac
recorded 13 goals, Alexis Jones added 8 scores, and goalie Sarah Tylka
stopped 37 total shots in the three-game set for the Mustangs.
In other tournament action,
Prospect edged Latin 9-8 as Lisa Mazur notched the game-winning goal with
0:12 remaining. Prospect fell to Buffalo Grove 8-6 in a later game,
however, as Kathryn Emerson tallied 4 scores for the Bison in the win.
Latin win the other tournament game, beating Buffalo Grove 8-2 as the
three other teams in the tournament ended with 1-2 records.
Stevenson Tournament
Naperville Central 10 Neuqua Valley 1
Abbey Kerth recorded 4 goals,
Emily Sejna added 3 scores, and Claire Fleming put in 2 goals to lead the
Redhawks to a 10-1 win in the first game for both teams at the Stevenson
Tournament. Julia Campbell also made 15 saves in the win for Central.
Naperville
Central 8 Stevenson 6
The Redhawks jumped out to an
8-1 lead and held on for an 8-6 win over Stevenson in a key matchup
between Top 10 teams. Tori Davis scored 3 times and both Claire Wirtz and
Vanessa Lin added 2 scores in the victory for Central.

Lincoln-Way Central 5
Abbey Kerth scored 5 times and
Vanessa Davis added 3 goals as the Redhawks beat Lincoln-Way Central 11-5
to finish the Stevenson Tournament with a 3-0 record. Claire Fleming added
2 scores and Julia Campbell made 12 saves in the win for NC.
