THURSDAY'S NEWS/NOTES |
In the first night of conference
tournament play on Wednesday, Palatine beat Buffalo Grove (boys) to claim
the MSL title and Curie, Young, Von Steuben, and Morgan Park all advanced
to the semifinals of the CPS Tournament.
On Thursday night, both the
Catholic League Tournament and West Suburban Conference Tournament get
started on the boys' side, while the CPS Tournament (girls) plays its'
quarterfinals on Thursday evening as well. Meanwhile, #5 Fremd takes on
#19 Wheeling in the Mid-Suburban League title game at 6:00pm to determine
the 2010 champion on the girls' side.

THURSDAY'S GAME RECAPS |
BOYS
Mundelein 11 Latin 5
#8 Mundelein defeated #5 Latin 11-5 on Thursday night
as Will Davidson scored 4 times, Brandon Horsch recorded 3 scores, and
Sean Falconer added 2 goals in the win for the Mustangs. AJ Galainena
scored 2 goals to lead the Romans in the losing effort.
STC North 12 Barrington
7
Michael Nield totaled 5 goals and both Joey Chokran and
Josh Kerr scored 2 times in the North Stars' 12-7 win over Barrington.
MCAC Tournament
Brother Rice 8 DeLaSalle 1
Sean Davis scored 3 goals to lead Brother Rice to an
8-1 victory over DeLaSalle.
Fenwick 21 St Rita 4
Mike Deacy scored 4 goals and Dan Kelly added 2 goals
in Fenwick's 21-4 win over St Rita.
Loyola 24 St Viator 9
12 different players tallied goals for #11 Loyola as
they defeated St Viator 24-9 in the first quarterfinal of the Catholic
League Tourney at Fenwick on Thursday night. Charlie Dowdle and William
LeCompte both led the Ramblers with 4 goals in the victory.
STC East 22 Riverside-Brookfield 6
Shaun Sueschek totaled 7 goals to lead STC East to a
22-6 victory over Riverside-Brookfield.
St Ignatius 10 St Patrick 7
St Ignatius defeated St Patrick 10-7 in the second
quarterfinal game, as Brendan Moore totaled 5 goals and Jack Abernethy
added 3 scores in the win.
WSC Tournament
York 16 Morton 2
Marc Krolikiewicz scored 6 times and Mark Olalde added
3 scores to lead the Dukes to a 16-2 win over Morton to setup a semifinal
game with two-seed Lyons on Friday night. Dan Groch and David Levin each
added 2 scores in the win for York.
GIRLS
Top-ranked Lyons Improves to 25-0 Heading Into Postseason
#1 Lyons Township defeated #11 Bremen 15-5 in their final test before the
West Suburban Conference Tournament this weekend and the IHSA Sectionals
that begin at their home pool next week.
Naperville Central 17 Sandburg 9
Abbey Kerth scored 6 goals, Claire Fleming totaled 3 scored and drew 5
ejections, and both Emily Sejna and Lizzy Giuliani tallied 2 goals apiece
as the Redhawks earned a 17-9 win over Sandburg. Julia Campbell also saved
14 shots in the win for Central. On the other side, Melanie Czerwinski
scored 3 goals and Jamie Pappanastos, Kathy Asztalos, and Tara Capouch
each recorded 2 goals in the losing effort for the Eagles.
CPS Tournament
First Semifinal Set In
CPS Tournament After Young and Curie Earn Wins; Northside and Lane Also
Advanced With Wins
Young, the top-seed in the CPS Tournament, won their quarterfinal game
over Lake View 8-3 to advance to Saturday's first semifinal at UIC. They
will meet Curie, an 11-8 winner over Von Steuben in the second
quarterfinal match on Thursday night.
In the third quarterfinal, Kelly Buchanan scored 5 goals and Cecile Franke
made 19 saves to lead Northside past Payton 12-3. They will meet Lane in
the second semifinal, after they knocked off Lincoln Park on Thursday
night.
MSL Championship
Fremd Beats Wheeling 7-4 To Win 2010
Mid-Suburban League Title
Emily Orlowski, Erika Lauraitis, and Samantha DelPrado each scored 2 goals
and Megan Kennedy added one score as Fremd held off Wheeling 7-4 to win
the Mid-Suburban League title game on Thursday night. Julie Conrath also
registered 12 saves in the victory for the Vikings. Amy Wilson totaled 2
scores and Christa Khatcherian and Emily Sullivan each scored one goal
apiece in the loss.

MATCH OF THE DAY
#5 Latin at #8 Mundelein
The Romans face a tough test
when they travel from Chicago to Mundelein to take on the Mustangs in a
battle of Top 10 teams. The Mustangs are looking to bounce back from a
loss to Stevenson last weekend, while the Romans recently knocked off New
Trier 17-9 after falling to Fenwick 14-9 early last week.

MATCH OF THE DAY

#5 Fremd (MSL Championship)
Fremd plays host to Wheeling in a Thursday night match that will determine
the Mid-Suburban League title in 2010. The contest is a rematch of last
year's title game, which Fremd won 10-4. The game will be the first
meeting between the two teams this season.
