MSL PLAYOFFS
Mid-Suburban League Pits East Versus West To End 2012 Season
For the first time, the Mid-Suburban League will feature crossover
games in addition to their annual championship game between the winners of the
East and West divisions. Palatine beat Elk Grove in a girls' matchup that kicked
off the festivities on Monday night, while four more games will be played on
Tuesday, followed by the title game on Thursday. Below are the game previews and

1st Place
Fremd 10 Wheeling 3
Sam Matuszewski scored 3 goals and Julie Conrath made 14 saves as Fremd
beat Wheeling 10-3 to claim the Mid-Suburban League title on Thursday
night. The Vikings, who outscored the Wildcats 5-1 in the first half, also
received solid contributions from Lauren Zambelli (2 goals) and Sam del
Prado (2 goals, 3 KO's drawn) en route to the win. Heather Murphy scored 2
times and Keara Myatt made 11 saves in the losing effort for Wheeling.
3rd Place
Barrington 6 Buffalo Grove 3
Brooke Fanslow and the Barrington defense limited Buffalo Grove to just
three goals in a 6-3 victory in the MSL's third-place game on Tuesday
night.
5th Place
Conant 12 Prospect 11 (OT)
Andie Cobb scored the game-winning goal in overtime as Conant stunned
Prospect for fifth place in the MSL's playoff competition on Tuesday. Cobb
scored 6 times and Kristi Burke added 4 scores in a see-saw battle that
entered the fourth quarter tied at 9-9. Jessica Cavaiani recorded 6 goals
and Kallie Shields put in 3 scores for the Knights in the loss.
7th Place
Hersey 4 Schaumburg 2
Allison Williams, Hannah Johnstone, Karolina Szymaszek,
and Stefanie Kintzle all recorded one goal as Hersey held off Schaumburg
4-2 to claim seventh-place in the MSL playoffs on Tuesday. The Huskies led
3-1 at the break and held the Saxons scoreless in the final period to earn
the victory. Casey Houts and Rachel Fish each tallied one goal in the loss
for Schaumburg.
9th Place
Palatine 9 Elk Grove 8
Nicole Theis and Rachel Chumbook each scored 3 goals and Hannah Otis made
13 saves as Palatine held off Elk Grove 9-8 in a battle of fifth-place
teams in the Mid-Suburban League. Kathryn Noonan totaled 4 goals in the
loss for the Grenadiers.
11th Place
Hoffman 8 Meadows 7 (OT)
Corey Liang and Faith Sheeley each netted 2 goals as the Hawks edged the
Mustangs 8-7 in extra time in Tuesday's eleventh-place game in the MSL
playoffs. Jessica Dykstra notched 3 scores and Natalie Delporte made 17
saves in the losing effort for
Meadows.
