TOURNAMENT REPORT
Preview
The Patriots host a crucial late-season tournament that often
serves as a preview of the state tournament. This year is no exception, as
several of the top teams in the state are in attendance. The top four teams in
the state (Fenwick, Naperville Central, Stevenson, Lyons) are joined by Brother
Rice, Loyola, Palatine, New Trier and Oak Park for an eighteen-game event that
features a championship round on Saturday.

Stevenson 4 Loyola 2
Cris Tomasetti scored 2 goals to lead the Patriots past Loyola 4-2
on Friday afternoon. Liam Holzer scored the eventual game-winner in
the third period for the hosts while Collin Kapecki tacked on an
insurance goal in the fourth quarter for the winners. Shaurya Gilani
also came up big for the Patriots by making 19 saves to frustrate
the Ramblers' offense. Andrew Hodur and Mike Considine each scored one
goal in the loss for Loyola.
Fenwick 12 Brother Rice 7
Danny Farmer scored 5 goals and Ryan Masi notched 3 scores in the
Friars' 12-7 win over Brother Rice. Andrew Bertschy, Jack Mahoney,
Noah Groll and Tommy Martino each added one score and Will Skowron
made 6 saves for the winners. Matt Bachler scored 3 goals and Luke
Healy netted 2 scores in the loss for the Crusaders.
Naperville Central 8 Lyons 5
The Redhawks opened their tournament account with an 8-5 victory
over Lyons. Kyle Jackson and Phillip Emden each totaled 3 goals
while Kyle Jackson and Nick Walker each added one goal in the
Central win.
Meanwhile, George Lundgren scored 3 times and Sam Szczepaniak netted
2 goals in the loss for LT.
Stevenson 13 Palatine 3
Dan Maleski and Kurt Holzer each scored 3 times while Collin Kapecki
and Cris Tomasetti each scored 2 goals in the Patriots' 13-3 triumph
over Palatine. Shaurya Gilani also made 10 stops in three quarters
of action for the hosts.
Fenwick 16 Oak Park 2
Ryan Masi recorded 5 goals, Andrew Bertschy totaled 3 scores and 4
assists and Will Skowron blocked 13 shots as Fenwick downed Oak Park
16-2. Danny Farmer and Mickey McGuire each tallied 2 scores while
Bailey Wendt scored once and dished out 3 assists in the victory.
Josh Gronwold and Riley Silber both put in one goal in the loss for
OPRF.
Naperville Central 9 New Trier 8
Kyle Jackson scored the game-winner midway through the final period
to help the Redhawks cap off a 3-0 run in response to an 8-6 deficit
in the final period to edge New Trier 9-8 in the late game on Friday
night. Jackson and Christian May each scored 3 goals while Nick
Walker scored 2 times and Brian Calabrese put in one goal in the
win. Alex Grant tallied 4 scores in the one-goal loss for the
Trevians.
Loyola 5 Palatine 1
George Harris and Ragen Murphy each notched 2 scores and John
Pasquesi scored once as Loyola beat Palatine 5-1. Ryan Schlaiss
scored the lone goal in the loss for the Pirates.
Oak Park 8 Brother Rice 5
The Huskies bounced back from Friday's loss to Fenwick with a 8-5
victory over Rice. Josh Gronwold put in 3 scores, Kiernan Kelty and
Lawrence Cozzi both scored 2 times and Robbie Wickes tallied one
score in the win for OPRF. Matt Bachler scored 2 goals in the loss
for the Crusaders.
Lyons 8 New Trier 7
Sam Szczepaniak scored the game-winning goal with :38 seconds left
to help lift the Lions over New Trier 8-7. Tommy Kaptur scored 3
goals and George Lundgren tallied 2 scores in the win for LT. Alex
Grant put in 3 goals in the loss for the Trevians.
Fenwick 7 Stevenson 6
Andrew Bertschy, Danny Farmer and Jack Mahoney each scored 2 goals
and DJ Perez scored once as the Friars outlasted Stevenson 7-6 in
the first game of the event's championship round. Kurt Holzer scored
2 goals and Alex Kapecki, Collin Kapecki, Cris Tomasetti and Dan
Maleski each scored once in the loss for the hosts.
Loyola 8 Oak Park 3
Jack Schermerhorn and Mike Considine each scored 2 goals and Walter
Haracz blocked 10 shots as the Ramblers beat Oak Park 8-3. Chris
Jovanovic, Kevin Manna, Max Ashurst and Ragen Murphy each added one
goal and John Pasquesi led the defense with 4 steals. Josh Gronwold,
Kevin Perez and Robbie Wickes each netted one goal in the losing
effort.
Brother Rice 12 Palatine 8
Brennan Russell scored 4 goals, Matt Bachler tallied 3 scores and
Tommy Davey netted 2 goals to help the Crusaders beat Palatine 12-8.
Jacob Baran registered 3 scores and Ryan Schlaiss netted 2 goals in
the loss for the Pirates.
Fenwick 10 Naperville Central 6
Danny Farmer scored 3 goals while Bailey Wendt, Colin Daly, Jack
Mahoney each scored 2 times as the Friars defeated Naperville
Central 10-6 to win the event. Andrew Bertschy registered one goal
and Will Skowron blocked 4 shots in the win. Nick Walker scored 4
goals and Christian May put in 2 scores in the loss for the
Redhawks.
Lyons 6 Oak Park 5
George Lundgren scored a breakaway goal in sudden-death overtime as
Lyons came from behind to beat Oak Park 6-5. The Lions trailed 4-1
late in the second half before closing out regulation with a 4-1 run
to send the contest to extra time. Lundgren and Sam Szczepaniak each
scored 2 goals while Tommy Kaptur sent the game to overtime with a
lob shot with :07 left for the winners. Josh Gronwold and Robbie
Wickes both scored 2 goals and Matt Mitrovich scored once in
the loss for the Huskies.
Brother Rice 15 New Trier 13
Matt Bachler recorded 7 goals and Peter Gurka notched 3 scores in
the Crusaders' 15-13 win over New Trier.
Naperville Central 5 Stevenson 3
Nick Walker scored 3 goals and Kyle Jackson scored 2 times in the
Redhawks' 5-3 win over Stevenson. Alex Kapecki registered 2 scores
in the losing effort for the hosts.
Lyons 7 Loyola 5
George Lundgren and Sam Szczepaniak each scored
2 goals as the Lions beat Loyola 7-5. Five players scored once
in the loss for the defending champions.
New Trier 11 Palatine 6
Chandler Tempest scored 3 goals and both Henry Yavitt and Mason
McQuet put in 2 scores as the Trevs ended the event with an 11-6 win
over Palatine. Ivan Turkan recorded 3 goals and Ryan Schlaiss netted
2 goals in the loss.
