STEVENSON TOURNAMENT
Lyons Remains On Top After Winning Stevenson Tournament
Joe Shannon's last-minute goal helped Lyons put the finishing
touches on a 9-8 comeback win over New Trier to win the Stevenson
Tournament, just one game after the Lions beat Fenwick 9-5 in the
first-place group of the event. The Lions trailed the Trevians by
four goals in the first half, but Shannon's four goals and a key
third-quarter score by Sean McMahon helped LT finish 4-0 at the
event.
Fenwick beat New Trier 7-5 earlier in the day to
finish in second, while the Trevians earned wins over Oak Park and
Stevenson to end the weekend in third place.
Loyola impressed with a 3-1 mark and a fourth-place finish after
wins over Brother Rice, Palatine, and the hosts. The Crusaders
finished fifth after Kevin Mayer's overtime goal helped them beat
Naperville Central in the prelims; they also knocked off Stevenson
on Saturday afternoon. The hosts beat Oak Park early in the day and
ended up in sixth place.
Naperville Central bounced back from their overtime loss to Brother
Rice by beating OPRF and Palatine in the seventh-place group.
Meanwhile, the Huskies held off the Pirates 12-8 to finish in eighth
place.
Friday's Game Recaps
New Trier 8 Stevenson 2
The Trevians' defense limited the hosts to just two goals as the opened
the tournament with an 8-2 win on Friday. Jordan Palmer scored 3 goals and
Dano Johnson, Jason Bartha, Joey Ryan, John Schulz, and Reid McCullough
each tallied one score in the victory. Mitchell Sokolsky and Remy Dalloul
both scored once in the loss for the hosts.
Fenwick 8 Loyola 6
Danny Farmer, Matt Bresnahan, Tony Perez, and Trevor McLean each scored 2
goals and Tommy McGuire made 8 saves as Fenwick defeated Loyola 8-6.
Cameron Shewchuck led the Ramblers with 2 goals in the losing effort,
while goalie Kyle Strobel blocked 6 shots.
Lyons 11 Naperville Central 1
Joe Shannon recorded 5 goals and Peter Dore netted 3 scores as Lyons
defeated Naperville Central 11-1. Nathan Kriha notched 2 scores and
Michael Dow added one goal in the winning effort. Ryan Donahue put in the
lone goal for the Redhawks in the loss.
New Trier 11 Oak Park 5
The Trevians won their second game of the night by beating Oak Park 11-5
to advance to the first-place group of the Stevenson Tournament. Jordan
Palmer netted 5 goals and Joey Ryan added 4 scores in the win, while Jason
Bartha and Matt Weiser both scored once for the victors. Grant Krueger led
the Huskies with 2 scores, while Kyle Patnode, Lee Werner, and Pavel
Simonovic each scored one goal for OPRF.
Fenwick 10 Palatine 3
Matt Bresnahan recorded 4 goals and Tommy McGuire blocked 15 shots in the
Friars' 15-3 victory over Palatine. Andrew Bertschy, Bailey Wendt, Billy
Golden, Justin White, Ryan Masi, and Tony Perez each put in one goal for
the Friars. Kristian Kalev tallied 2 scores and Christian Kalfas scored
once for the Pirates.
Lyons 8 Brother Rice 2
The top-ranked Lions advanced to Saturday's first-place group with an 8-2
victory over Brother Rice. Joe Shannon registered 6 scores and Peter Dore
netted 2 goals in the win for the Lions. Kevin Mayer scored 2 goals and
Cal Kennedy made 12 saves in the loss for the Crusaders.
Saturday's Game Recaps
Stevenson 6 Oak Park 3
Varun Mummadi scored 3 times and Alex Divanyan, Mitchell Sokolsky, and
Taylor Baretz each scored one goal as Stevenson pulled away from Oak Park
in the second half to earn a 6-3 win. Kyle Patnode, Mark Hallman, and Lee
Werner each scored once in the loss for the Huskies.
Loyola 16 Palatine 11
Cameron Shewchuck, George Finn, and Jack Nickele each registered 4 scores
as Loyola defeated Palatine 16-11 on Saturday morning. Wally Kleinfeldt
led the Pirates with 4 scores, while Christian Kalfas put in 3 goals and
Kristian Kalev scored 2 times.
Brother Rice 9 Naperville Central 8 (OT)
Kevin Mayer scored in the final minute of sudden-death overtime to give
Brother Rice a 9-8 victory over Naperville Central. The goal came late in
the shot clock as Mayer slipped a shot under the arms of NC goalie Matt
Prestinario to secure the win. Mayer scored 5 goals to lead the Crusaders
on the offensive end, while Ian Disteldorf netted 2 goals and both Dave
Jackson and Matt Bachler scored one goal. Cal Kennedy made 9 saves in the
victory for Rice.
Nick Walker scored with less than one second left in regulation after an
ejection to send the game to overtime for the Redhawks, who failed to
score on two possessions in the extra session. Connor Lamb recorded 3
goals, Walker scored 2 times, and the trio of Adam Hunter, Joe Bigenwald,
and Ryan Donahue each scored once.
Championship round
Fenwick 7 New Trier 5
Trevor McLean scored 3 goals and Danny Farmer added 2 scores as Fenwick
held off a late rally from the Trevians to earn a 7-5 victory. Justin
White and Mike Mahoney each added one score in the Fenwick win. Matt
Weiser scored 2 times for New Trier, while Jason Bartha, Joey Ryan, and
Reid McCulloch each put in one goal in the loss. <<

Loyola 12 Stevenson 4
Cameron Shewchuck recorded 4 goals, Ben Pasquesi netted 3 scores, and Matt
Kearney put in 2 goals as Loyola downed Stevenson 12-4. George Finn, Jack
Considine, and Jack Nickele each added one score in the Ramblers' win.
Kyle Strobel also saved 10 shots in the winning effort.
Oak Park 12 Palatine 8
Nathan Pimentel recorded 7 goals to lead Oak Park past Palatine 12-8. Alex
West, Chris Brandt, Kyle Patnode, Mark Hallman, and Pavel Simonovic each
tallied one score in the Huskies' win. Alex Brons scored 5 goals and
Kristian Kalev put in 2 scores in the loss for the Pirates.
Lyons 9 Fenwick 5
Peter Dore recorded 3 goals and both Josh Hirt and Joe Shannon netted 2
scores as Lyons beat Fenwick 9-5 to get one step closer to winning the
Stevenson Tournament on Saturday. Tommy Kaptur and Sean McMahon each added
one score for the Lions, who must beat New Trier later in the day to secure
the event's title. Andrew Bertschy led the Friars with 2 scores, while Matt
Bresnahan, Omar Calderon, and Tony Perez each scored once in the loss.

George Finn and Jack Considine both recorded 4 goals and Cameron Shewchuck
put in 2 scores as the Ramblers beat Brother Rice 10-6. Kevin Mayer recorded
3 goals and Dan Birmingham notched 2 scores in the losing effort, while
goalie Cal Kennedy blocked 9 shots for the Crusaders.
Naperville Central 16 Palatine 5
Nick Walker registered 4 scores and Luke Ryan tallied 3 scores in Naperville
Central's 16-5 victory over Palatine. Christian May, Eric Lullo, and Joe
Bigenwald each added 2 goals in the Redhawks' win. Wally Kleinfeldt
scored 2 times in the loss for the Pirates.
Lyons 9 New Trier 8
Joe Shannon's goal with one minute remaining gave LT their first lead of the
game and Jordan Palmer's last-second shot hit the left post as the Lions
earned a come-from-behind 9-8 win over New Trier to win the Stevenson
Tournament on Saturday. Shannon scored 4 times, Josh Hirt and Peter Dore
both scored 2 times, and Sean McMahon added one goal. Joey Ryan and Jordan
Palmer each scored 3 times and both Matt Weiser and Reid McCulloch netted

Dan Birmingham and Dave Jackson each scored 3 times and Kevin Mayer added
one goal as Brother Rice beat Stevenson 7-3. Cal Kennedy also totaled 9
saves in the victory for Rice. Mitchell Sokolsky recorded 2
goals and Varun Mummadi added one score in the loss for the hosts.
Naperville Central 10 Oak Park 6
Joe Bigenwald registered 4 goals and Ryan Donahue netted 2 scores in the
Redhawks' 10-6 win over Oak park. Nathan Pimentel tallied 4 scores in the
