TOURNAMENT RECAP (April 27)

North Stars Stay Balanced To Win Own Tournament
STC North used a variety of weapons to claim their own tournament title on Saturday; Nick Kowaleski scored in the final minute to lift STC North over Bremen 7-6 in the tournament opener, Justin Simmonds and Nick Traxler each scored 3 goals in a 9-7 win over Hersey, and Kyle Gannon scored 6 goals to lead the hosts past Whitney Young 22-11 in the title game of their own event. Collin Bawolek also made a strong impression, stopping 28 shots in the three victories. St Rita beat Bremen for third place on Dan Carone's last-minute goal, while Hersey outlasted Vernon Hills to claim fifth place.

Saturday's Game Recaps

STC North 7 Bremen 6
Nick Kowaleski scored the game-winning goal with less than one minute remaining in regulation to give the hosts a 7-6 victory over Bremen. Kyle Gannon scored 2 goals, while John Pretet, Nick Traxler, Ryan Hamilton, and Ryan Helfers each added one score for the North Stars. Collin Bawolek also came up big for the hosts, stopping 11 shots in the one-goal win. Quinn Johnson recorded 6 goals in the loss for the Silver Snakes.

Whitney Young 18 Vernon Hills 15

Seth Hughes totaled 7 goals and both Hector Mendez and Juan Reyes scored 4 times as the Dolphins got past Vernon Hills 18-15. Sean Pinter led the Cougars with 5 scores in the loss.

STC North 9 Hersey 7

Justin Simmonds and Nick Traxler each scored 3 goals and Collin Bawolek blocked 7 shots as the North Stars earned a 9-7 win over Hersey. John Pretet added 2 scores and Nick Kowaleski added one goal in the victory. Jack Carroll scored 4 times in the loss for the Huskies.

Whitney Young 13 St Rita 11

Seth Hughes scored 5 times to lead Whitney Young to a 13-11 victory over St Rita. Daniel Shumaker and Duncan McDonald both scored 3 times in the win for the Dolphins. John O'Sullivan scored 3 goals in the loss for the Mustangs.

Bremen 12 Hersey 9

Quinn Johnson recorded 7 goals, Gabe Stein-Rojas notched 3 scores and Zach Crim tallied 2 scores as Bremen got past Hersey 12-9. Jack Carroll led the Huskies with 3 goals in the loss.

St Rita 17 Vernon Hills 11

Chris O'Neal, Charles Henrichs, Matt Lopez, and Nick Henrichs each scored 3 goals to lead St Rita past Vernon Hills 17-11. Conrad Kocoj and Ethan Stein both scored 3 times in the loss for the Cougars.

Championship Round

Hersey 21 Vernon Hills 12 (5th place)

Jack Carroll scored 7 goals and George Vladimirov tallied 5 scores as Hersey beat Vernon Hills 21-12 to claim fifth place at the STC North Tournament. Connor Reynolds also put in 3 goals for the victors. Sean Pinter led the Cougars with 4 scores in the losing effort.

St Rita 8 Bremen 7 (3rd place)

Dan Carone scored the game-winning goal with 0:15 remaining as St Rita edged Bremen 8-7 in the third place game of the STC North Tournament. Eric Johnson recorded 4 goals and Carone added 2 scores in the win for the Mustangs. Quinn Johnson led the Silver Snakes with 5 goals in the loss.

STC North 22 Whitney Young 11 (1st place)

Kyle Gannon scored 6 times and Nick Kowaleski, Nick Traxler, Ross Davis, and Ryan Hamilton each put in 3 goals in the North Stars' 22-11 title-winning performance against Whitney Young. Seth Hughes scored 6 goals and Daniel Shumaker added 3 tallies in the loss for the Dolphins.
