Cougars Claim Their
Own Tournament Title
The Conant defense allowed just 11 goals in four games as the
Cougars rolled to their own event's title over the weekend. The hosts beat
BG, Northside, and St Viator without a problem in the prelims and knocked
off Neuqua Valley 12-2 in the championship game. Lincoln-Way North went
undefeated (which included a draw against Northside) and topped
Libertyville 7-6 in the third-place game. Northside beat CPS rival Lane in
11-6 for fifth place, while BG got past Maine West 7-5 in the
seventh-place contest.
STC NORTH TOURNAMENT
North Stars Stay
Balanced To Win Own Tournament
STC North used a variety of weapons to claim their own tournament
title on Saturday; Nick Kowaleski scored in the final minute to lift
STC North over Bremen 7-6 in the tournament opener, Justin Simmonds
and Nick Traxler each scored 3 goals in a 9-7 win over Hersey, and
Kyle Gannon scored 6 goals to lead the hosts past Whitney Young
22-11 in the title game of their own event. Collin Bawolek also made
a strong impression, stopping 28 shots in the three victories. St
Rita beat Bremen for third place on Dan Carone's last-minute goal,
while Hersey outlasted Vernon Hills to claim fifth place.
STEVENSON TOURNAMENT
Lyons Remains On Top After Winning Stevenson Tournament
Joe Shannon's last-minute goal helped Lyons put the finishing
touches on a 9-8 comeback win over New Trier to win the Stevenson
Tournament, just one game after the Lions beat Fenwick 9-5 in the
first-place group of the event. The Lions trailed the Trevians by
four goals in the first half, but Shannon's four goals and a key
third-quarter score by Sean McMahon helped LT finish 4-0 at the
event.
Fenwick beat New Trier 7-5 earlier in the day to
finish in second, while the Trevians earned wins over Oak Park and
Stevenson to end the weekend in third place.
Loyola impressed with a 3-1 mark and a fourth-place finish after
wins over Brother Rice, Palatine, and the hosts. The Crusaders
finished fifth after Kevin Mayer's overtime goal helped them beat
Naperville Central in the prelims; they also knocked off Stevenson
on Saturday afternoon. The hosts beat Oak Park early in the day and
ended up in sixth place.
Naperville Central bounced back from their overtime loss to Brother
Rice by beating OPRF and Palatine in the seventh-place group.
Meanwhile, the Huskies held off the Pirates 12-8 to finish in eighth
place.
Championship round
Fenwick 7 New Trier 5
Trevor McLean scored 3 goals and Danny Farmer added 2 scores as Fenwick
held off a late rally from the Trevians to earn a 7-5 victory. Justin
White and Mike Mahoney each added one score in the Fenwick win. Matt
Weiser scored 2 times for New Trier, while Jason Bartha, Joey Ryan, and
Reid McCullough each put in one goal in the loss. <<

Lyons 9 Fenwick 5
Peter Dore recorded 3 goals and both Josh Hirt and Joe Shannon netted 2
scores as Lyons beat Fenwick 9-5 to get one step closer to winning the
Stevenson Tournament on Saturday. Tommy Kaptur and Sean McMahon each added
one score for the Lions, who must beat New Trier later in the day to secure
the event's title. Andrew Bertschy led the Friars with 2 scores, while Matt
Bresnahan, Omar Calderon, and Tony Perez each scored once in the loss.

Lyons 9 New Trier 8
Joe Shannon's goal with one minute remaining gave LT their first lead of the
game and Jordan Palmer's last-second shot hit the left post as the Lions
earned a come-from-behind 9-8 win over New Trier to win the Stevenson
Tournament on Saturday. Shannon scored 4 times, Josh Hirt and Peter Dore
both scored 2 times, and Sean McMahon added one goal. Joey Ryan and Jordan
Palmer each scored 3 times and both Matt Weiser and Reid McCullough netted

LANE TOURNAMENT
Appell Leads Huskies
To Lane Tournament Trophy
Katie Appell recorded 19 goals in wins over Latin, New Trier, and
Wheeling on Saturday to lift the Huskies to a late-season tournament
title at Lane Tech. She surpassed the 100-goal mark in a 15-1
victory over Latin, scored 6 times in a 9-1 win over New Trier, and
scored 4 times in an overtime win over Wheeling in the title game.
Theresa Godlewski and Kat Dobrowski combined to score 13 times in
Wheeling's run to a second place finish, the hosts outlasted New
Trier 6-3 in the third-place game, and Prospect beat Latin to claim
fifth-place even though they ended the day with a 2-1 record.
NAPERVILLE NORTH TOURNAMENT
Huskies Prevail Over
Fremd, Libertyville
Jillian Eiken scored 8 goals and Katie Horn netted 6 scores to lead
Naperville North to wins over Fremd and Libertyville in their own
mini-tournament on Saturday morning. The Huskies beat the Vikings
11-3 in the first game and then outlasted the Wildcats 12-9 in the
final game.
Emma Hoffman, Jena Teragawachi, and Tori Boldt each
scored 3 goals in the two-game set, helping Fremd beat Libertyville
9-6 to finish the day with a 1-1 record. Devika Joshi totaled 7
goals and Julia Ahlgrim added 6 scores on the day for the
third-place Wildcats.
ROCKFORD TOURNAMENT
Fenwick Dominates In
Michigan; LWC Finishes Third
Illinois' top-ranked team traveled to Michigan over the weekend to
win the Rockford Tournament after beating the hosts for the
second-straight weekend and finishing the event with a 4-0 record.
They also beat another Illinois' team, Lincoln-Way Central, in the
championship bracket, after the Knights swept their
preliminary-round group after beating Okemos and Zeeland. The
Knights were edged by Rockford, Michigan's top-ranked team, in a
virtual battle for second place earlier in the day.
OTHER KEY GAMES
Barrington 11 STC North 10
Kelly Meckert, Lisa Danhauer, and Sam Gavars each scored 3 times and both
Catherine Byron and Kayla Widdowson each put in one score for the Fillies.
Maddie Jones and Nicole Guyett each scored 3 times and Sarah Stern notched
2 scores for the North Stars. Hannah Horsfall also blocked 19 shots in the
loss.
