BROTHER RICE TOURNAMENT

Brother Rice Edges Loyola To Win Tournament
The Crusaders got back on track over the weekend, posting a 4-0 mark by beating HC, Sandburg, St Patrick, and Loyola to claim their own tournament title. Ian Disteldorf scored the game-winning goal in the final minute to send Brother Rice past Loyola 11-10 in the event's title game. Meanwhile, Latin beat Sandburg for third place, Lockport fended off Hinsdale Central in the fifth-place game, and St Patrick topped St Rita for seventh place.


Friday's Game Recaps

Brother Rice 17 Hinsdale Central 3

Mike Mulcrone poured in 6 goals and both Ian Disteldorf and Kevin Mayer netted 3 scores in the hosts' 17-3 win over Hinsdale Central. Dave Jackson also scored 2 times in the tournament-opening victory.

 

Sandburg 13 St Patrick 3

Matt Veldman put in 4 scores and Kevin Tunney nicked 3 goals to lead Sandburg past St Pats 13-3.

 

Latin 15 St Rita 3

Eddie Wickes totaled 7 goals and James Ruggiero added 5 scores in the Romans' 15-3 triumph over Rita.

 

Loyola 15 Lockport 4

Danny Stauder recorded 5 goals, Charlie Dowdle netted 4 scores, and Robbie O'Connor stopped 11 shots in Loyola's 15-4 victory over Lockport. Dan Oldendorf scored 2 times in the loss for the Porters.

 

Brother Rice 11 St Patrick 7

Mike Mulcrone scored 6 goals and Matt Becker chipped in with 3 scores as Rice defeated St Pats 11-7.

 

Loyola 20 St Rita 2

Erik Goosmann scored 4 times and both Brian Pinelli and Jack Buehler put in 3 scores in the Ramblers' 20-2 triumph over St Rita.


Saturday's Game Scores

Latin 14 Lockport 13 (SO)

Jacob Himmel scored the game-tying goal in the final seconds of regulation and later connected on the final shot of a shootout to send Latin past Lockport 14-13. Himmel totaled 6 scores while Eddie Wickes and James Ruggiero each scored 3 times. Dave Hir tallied 7 scores and Dan Oldendorf added 3 scores in the loss for the Porters.

 

HC 12 St Patrick 9

Drake Kinney scored 5 times and George Koulouris added 3 goals as the Red Devils knocked off St Patrick 12-9. Jack Smollen scored 3 goals and Greg Johnson notched 2 scores for the Shamrocks.

 

Brother Rice 14 Sandburg 3

Mike Mulcrone registered 5 goals and both Dave Jackson and Kevin Mayer totaled 3 scores as Rice defeated Sandburg 14-3.

 

Loyola 9 Latin 7

Brendan Hulseman, Danny Stauder, and Jordan Hodur each notched 2 scores and Robbie O'Connor stopped 14 shots as the Ramblers held off Latin 9-7. Eddie Wickes and Jacob Himmel both recorded

3 goals in the loss for the Romans.

 

Lockport 14 St Rita 5

Dave Hir scored 4 goals and Dan Oldendorf netted 3 scores in Lockport's 14-5 win over St Rita.

 

Sandburg 14 Hinsdale Central 13

Mike O'Malley registered 5 scores, Matt Veldman scored 4 times, and Kevin Tunney notched 2 scores as the Eagles held off Hinsdale Central 14-13. George Koulouris scored 4 goals and both Drake Kinney and Brogan O'Doherty tallied 3 scores in the losing effort.

 

St Patrick 14 St Rita 7 (7th)

Jon Gutierrez scored 5 goals and both Greg Johnson and Luis Plascencia nicked 2 scores to help the Shamrocks beat St Rita 14-7 in the seventh-place game.

 

Lockport 19 HC 9 (5th)

Dave Hir poured in 9 goals to lift the Porters past Hinsdale Central 19-9 for fifth place. The Red Devils were led by George Koulouris (5 goals) and Drake Kinney (2 goals).

 

Latin 15 Sandburg 10 (3rd)

Jacob Himmel and Parker Wilkie both notched 4 scores and Eddie Wickes and James Ruggiero each put in 3 scores to lead the Romans past Sandburg 15-10 in the third-place contest. Mike O'Malley scored 4 times in the loss for the Eagles.

 

Brother Rice 11 Loyola 10 (1st)

Ian Disteldorf scored with :11 seconds left in regulation to send the Crusaders past Loyola 11-10 in the title game of the event. Mike Mulcrone scored 4 goals and both Kevin Mayer and Mitch Strahlman netted 2 scores in the Rice victory. Brendan Hulseman totaled 3 goals in the narrow loss for Loyola.
