Matt Bresnahan and Ryan Masi both scored 2 goals in Fenwick's 7-6 overtime
loss to SLUH. The Friars responded to a 4-1 deficit to tie the game in the
second half and eventually send the game to overtime. SLUH was able to
apply the offensive pressure in the first minute of the extra period,
getting a fresh shot clock after a blocked shot and then drawing an
ejection before scoring the game-winning goal. Danny Farmer and Trevor
McLean each chipped in with one score and Tommy McGuire blocked 12 shots
in the loss for the Friars. Below are the live updates from the game:
FIRST HALF
Ryan Masi's first-period goal helped the Friars finish the opening period
tied at 1-1 with SLUH. Missouri's top team scored on two-straight man-up
situations early in the second quarter, taking a 3-1 lead. After another
SLUH goal, Danny Farmer drew a penalty that Matt Bresnahan converted,
cutting the SLUH lead to 4-2. Right before the half ended, Trevor McLean
scored from outside five meters to get Fenwick within one goal at the
break.
SECOND HALF
After trading several possessions, SLUH's Chris Favier connected on an
outside shot to increase the lead to 5-3. Late in the third period, Tommy
McGuire saved a lob attempt and moments later, Farmer scored from seven
meters to cut the lead to 5-4. Matt Bresnahan forced a turnover on SLUH's
next possession, then scored at the other end from five meters to tie the
score at 5-5 as the teams head to the last period.
SLUH scored early in the fourth quarter, but Tony Perez assisted Ryan Masi
on his second goal and the teams get back even at 6-6. After a defensive
stop, Farmer had a chance to give the Friars the lead, but he hit the post
and SLUH recovered the rebound. The Fenwick defense put the clamps down on
SLUH's offense for the remainder of the period, getting the ball back in
the final minute before calling a timeout. McLean's shot attempt with six
seconds remaining was tipped and SLUH recovered the loose ball and called
a timeout with five seconds remaining to attempt a final shot, which
Fenwick prevented to send the game to overtime.
OVERTIME
SLUH earned an ejection on their first possession, but the Friars blocked
the first shot attempt out-of-play. McGuire came out of the net to earn a
steal on SLUH's entry pass, but an ejection was called and SLUH quickly
took advantage to score the game-winning goal just over one minute into
the extra session.
