The Dukes host a nine-team tournament that features several of the state's Top
25 teams plus Missouri's top-ranked defending champions (SLUH). The event kicks
off on Friday afternoon with a contest between Loyola and Niles West, who will
later be joined by New Trier in their group. The hosts are in a group with St
Ignatius and Fenwick, while SLUH will face Lyons and Mundelein. The championship
round of play gets underway on Saturday morning as the Friars look to defend
their tournament title (they edged SLUH in the event's title game 8-7 in 2015).
Loyola 10 Niles West 6
The Ramblers built a 7-3 halftime lead en route to a 10-6 victory over
Niles West in the opening game of the York Tournament. Max Ashurst and
Matt Merucci both scored 2 goals in the winning effort. Lucas Brace led
the Wolves' offense with 4 scores in the loss.
St Ignatius 9 York 9
The hosts mounted a tremendous second half comeback to earn a 9-9 draw
with St Ignatius. Tim Evely scored 3 goals, Danny Stumpf notched 3
scores and Luke Nowak scored 2 times for the Dukes. Shane Hughes scored
6 goals, Andreas Christy notched 2 scores and Moises Lopez scored once
for SICP.
New Trier 17 Niles West 9
Henry Yavitt and Sam Yavitt combined to score 7 goals while both Charlie
Ryan and Michael Krueger put in 3 goals as the Trevians beat Niles West
17-9.
Lyons 6 Mundelein 4
George Lundgren scored 3 goals to help the Lions fend off Mundelein 6-4
on Friday. Nick Oleinik tallied 3 scores in the loss for the Mustangs.
Fenwick 11 York 11
The Dukes earned their second straight draw of the night against Fenwick
as the two finished tied at 11-11 at the end of regulation. Mickey
McGuire scored 5 times, Chez Daggs netted 3 goals and Tommy Martino
scored 2 goals for the Friars. Danny Stumpf registered 5 scores and Alex
Marlott tallied 2 scores for the hosts.
Loyola 10 New Trier 6
Matt Merucci scored 4 times and both Larkin Flanagan and Michael
Considine scored 2 goals as Loyola got past New Trier 10-6. Cole Morgan
added one score and Walter Haracz stopped 7 shots for the victors.
St Ignatius 8 Fenwick 5
Shane Hughes notched 3 scores and Moises Lopez scored 2 times in the
Wolfpack's 9-4 win over Fenwick. Mickey McGuire scored 2 goals in the
loss for the Friars.
SLUH 13 Mundelein 3
Chris Kreinkamp recorded 6 goals and Joe Jellinek scored 3 times as SLUH
defeated Mundelein 13-3.
Fenwick 12 Niles West 0
Mickey McGuire scored 4 goals, Chez Daggs netted 2 scores and David
Francisco earned a shutout as the Friars blanked Niles West 12-0.
SLUH 11 York 5
Chris Kreinkamp notched 3 scores to lead the Jr Billikens to an 11-5 win
over the hosts. Jordan Jopes put in 2 scores in the loss for the Dukes.
Mundelein 13 Niles West 7
Nick Oleinik recorded 5 goals and both Matt Schaedel and Mike Ward
scored 2 times in the Mustangs' 13-7 victory over Niles West. Lucas
Brace and Mustafa Khan both tallied 2 scores in the loss for the Wolves.
New Trier 13 York 12 (OT)
Michael Krueger scored 3 goals to help lift the Trevians over York 13-12
in overtime on Saturday. Tim Evely scored 5 times in the loss for the
hosts.
Lyons 13 St Ignatius 11
Sam Szczepaniak registered 5 goals to lead the defending champs past St
Ignatius 13-11. Shane Hughes tallied 6 goals, Andreas Christy and
Finnbar Connors each scored 2 times and Jack Dunn put in one goal for
the Wolfpack.
Mundelein 12 Fenwick 4
Nick Oleinik totaled 5 goals and 9 steals and both Mike Ward and Matt
Schaedel scored 2 times as the Mustangs earned a 12-4 victory over
Fenwick.
Lyons 7 Loyola 6
George Lundgren and Sam Szczepaniak each scored 2 goals as the Lions
fended off Loyola 7-6 to win the York Tournament. Adam Cardone, Michael
Zahorik and Victor Perez each added one score for the event winners.
Larkin Flanagan and Michael Considine both scored 2 goals while Cole
Morgan and Max Ashurst each tallied one score in the loss.
SLUH 14 New Trier 6
Chris Kreinkamp recorded 4 goals to lead SLUH past New Trier 14-6 as the
Missouri-based squad ended their travels with a 3-1 record at the York
Tournament. Alex Holme, Charlie Ryan, Danilo Skecic, Henry Yavitt,
Michael Krueger and Sam Yavitt all scored once in the loss for the
Trevians.
St Ignatius 9 Loyola 4
Shane Hughes registered 6 goals, Andreas Christy scored 2 times and
Moises Lopez added one goal in the Wolfpack's 9-4 win over Loyola. Kevin
Manna notched 2 scores while Cole Morgan and Michael Considine both
scored once in the loss.
