Several of the state's top teams head to Oak Park to play in Fenwick's annual
Mike Murphy Tournament over the weekend. The top four teams in the state (#1
Stevenson, #2 St Ignatius, #3 Fenwick, #4 Mother McAuley) all have their sights
set on securing an important mid-season tournament victory, while the rest of
the attendees (#7 New Trier, #9 Lyons, #10 Naperville North, #15 Loyola, #19
Mundelein) will look to crash the party and win the event for the first time.
The event begins with five contests on Friday night while the championship round
gets started on Saturday after four additional preliminary round games.
Stevenson beat the hosts 10-9 to win the title at last year's event.
Stevenson 11 Lyons 8
Allison Travetto totaled 7 goals as Stevenson earned an 11-8 victory
over Lyons in the opening game of the Fenwick Tournament on Friday.
Lauren Burns blocked 12 shots in three quarters of play for the
defending champions. Kaysie Stuba notched 3 scores and Maddie Cordell
netted 2 scores in the loss for the Lions.
Mother McAuley 6 St Ignatius 5
Paulina Correa scored 3 goals and Jill Mueller scored 2 times as Mother
McAuley held off St Ignatius 6-5 on Friday night. Geena Peyton made a
key steal in the final minute after an Ignatius timeout to secure the
win. Julie Olivares also scored once for the winners. Diana Fernandez
notched 3 scores and Tara White scored 2 times in the losing effort.
Fenwick 8 New Trier 7
Catie Wallace scored the game-winning goal late in the fourth quarter as
the hosts bounced back from a halftime deficit to edge New Trier 8-7.
Wallace led the Friars with 3 goals while Clare Durkin, Kelly Frumkin,
Jillian Wickham, Maddie Nettleton and Shannon Forst each scored once for
the winners. Kami Grochowski and Lauren Barrett each scored 2 times in
the loss for the Trevians.
Stevenson 15 Loyola 3
Allison Travetto totaled 6 goals and 5 assists while Claire Haas also
scored 6 goals in the Patriots' 15-3 triumph over Loyola. Lauren Burns
also stopped 14 shots in the win.
Mother McAuley 22 Naperville North 4
MaryGrace Golon, Kim Fischer and Paulina Correa each scored 3 goals as
the Mighty Macs built a 9-0 lead after the opening period en route to a
22-4 victory over Naperville North.
Fenwick 16 Mundelein 4
Catie Wallace recorded 5 goals to lead the Friars past Mundelein 16-4.
Amanda Garcia scored 2 times in the loss for the Mustangs.
Lyons 6 Loyola 5
Kaysie Stuba delivered the game-winning goal with :08 left in regulation
to send the Lions past Loyola 6-5 on Saturday morning. Stuba's shot into
the left corner came after she drew a foul outside of five meters just
seconds after Claire Voss had tied the game at 5-5 with a backhand from
two meters on the other end.
St Ignatius 10 Naperville North 2
Stephania Lopez scored 4 goals to help lead the Wolfpack past Naperville
North 10-2. Isabella Rocco put in both scores in the loss for the
Huskies.
New Trier 14 Mundelein 2
Julia Green scored 3 goals as New Trier emerged with a 14-2 win over
Mundelein. Abbie Lukas and Jessica Peterson each scored once in the loss
for the Mustangs.
St Ignatius 12 New Trier 4
Diana Fernandez netted 8 goals and Brianna Gist scored 2 times as the
Wolfpack erased an early 2-0 deficit to beat New Trier 12-4. Nina
Mantich and Tara White both added one goal for the winners. Isabelle
Riggio, Lauren Barrett, Julia Green and Sarah Caywood each put in one
goal for the Trevians in the losing effort.
Fenwick 10 Mother McAuley 10
Fenwick and Mother McAuley finished their championship round fixture
tied at 10-10 after a see-saw battle ended in thrilling fashion. Catie
Wallace was left open for a breakaway attempt but her shot was released
and converted just after the final horn sounded and the goal was
correctly disallowed. Wallace recorded 3 goals and both Clare Durkin and
Eryn Kulik scored 2 times for the Friars. Paulina Correa scored 4 goals
and Jill Mueller netted 3 scores for the Mighty Macs.
Loyola 13 Naperville North 4
Alana Dean notched 4 scores and Claire Voss scored 3 times in the
Ramblers' 13-4 win over Naperville North. Isabella Rocco led the
Huskies' offense with 2 scores in the loss.
St Ignatius 14 Lyons 5
Stephania Lopez totaled 4 goals and Nina Mantich scored 3 times as the
Wolfpack got past Lyons 14-5.
Stevenson 11 Mother McAuley 6
Allison Travetto scored 7 goals and Amelia Eastman, Claire Haas, Lauren
Maloney and Tanya Shkiler scored once as the defending champions
overcame an early 2-1 deficit by using a 5-0 run to earn an 11-6 victory
over the Mighty Macs. Maggie Hennigan scored 2 times while Frances
Bauer, Jill Mueller, Julie Olivares, and Paulina Correa each scored once
in the loss for McAuley.
Loyola 11 Mundelein 0
Alana Dean and Emma Kyle both scored 3 goals and Claire Voss tallied 2
scores in the Ramblers' 11-0 shutout of Mundelein. Hannah Rapp and Meg
Dixon combined to earn the shutout for the winners.
New Trier 5 Lyons 3
Sarah Caywood netted 2 goals and Lauren Barrett scored the eventual
game-winning goal late in the final period as New Trier held off Lyons
5-3. Emma Valdiserri and Julia Green also scored once for the winners.
Annika Moore, Kaysie Stuba and Maddie Cordell all scored once in the
loss for the Lions.
Fenwick 7 Stevenson 6
Catie Wallace scored 3 goals while both Clare Durkin and Kelly Frumkin
scored 2 times as the Friars edged Stevenson 7-6 to win their own
tournament. Allison Travetto recorded 3 goals, Claire Haas scored 2
times and Lauren Burns made 15 saves for the Patriots.
