TOURNAMENT RECAP (March 22-23)
Lafayette Completes Major Turnaround To Win Schaumburg Title
The visitors from Missouri lost their tournament opener to the host
Saxons on Friday afternoon, then won three straight games to make the
final game, where they defeated St Charles East to take home a fresh
trophy. They were able to earn wins over Hinsdale South and Wheeling on
Saturday, then were the clear beneficiaries of Wheeling's upset of the
Saxons late in the day. The tiebreaker meant that Lafayette would get to
play the Saints in the title game, who bounced back from a Friday night
loss to Whitney Young to beat York 7-6 and win a tiebreaker to make the
final game. Lafayette eventually beat STC East 6-4 on Saturday night
before heading home victorious. York responded from their loss to beat
Schaumburg 7-2 in the third-place game, Wheeling topped McHenry for fifth
place, and Hinsdale South defeated Whitney Young in the seventh-place
game.
