Wolves Come Through
In The Clutch To Defend Title
Niles West outlasted DeLaSalle 11-8 in their own tournament's title
game to repeat as champions of their own tournament on Saturday afternoon.
The Wolves were able to outlast the Meteors in the final game with a 4-0
fourth quarter run after the teams entered the last quarter tied at 6-6.
Steven Renko led the team with 13 goals, while Andrew Mudreac and Max
Romanelli combined to score 7 goals in the title game victory. Waubonsie
Valley finished an undefeated weekend with a third-place game win over
Stagg; Mike McWhirter scored 14 goals to lead the Warriors, who were kept
from playing for the title after losing a tiebreaker to the hosts after
the two squads tied earlier in the day. St Rita beat Metea Valley for
fifth place, while Maine West grabbed their first win of the weekend by
beating Von Steuben in the seventh place game.

Max Romanelli scored 4 goals, Andrew Mudreac tallied 3 scores, and Nick
Opfer blocked 12 shots as the hosts won their own event by beating
DeLaSalle 11-8 in the title game. The Wolves broke the game open in the
fourth quarter with a 4-0 run that broke a 6-6 deadlock en route to the
win. Roberto Rodriguez put in 6 goals in the losing effort for the
Meteors.
