TOURNAMENT REPORT
Preview
The Friars' annual tournament begins with six preliminary round games on
Thursday evening. The hosts and OPRF get things started at 4:30pm, followed by
a showdown between Missouri's DeSmet and Lyons. The two losing teams
from the opening two games will then meet at the end of the night.
In between, H-F plays St Ignatius, Stevenson takes on LWE, and
Brother Rice does battle with Curie. The tournament rolls on over the
next two days, culminating in a championship round on Saturday
night.

Danny Farmer scored 5 goals and Andrew Bertschy added 2 scores as the
Friars jumped out to a 9-1 lead at halftime en route to a 14-4 victory
over Oak Park.
Chez Daggs, Colin Daly, DJ Perez, Jack Mahoney,
Mickey McGuire,
Ryan Masi, and Tommy Martino also got on the scoresheet with one
goal apiece while Will Skowron saved 5 shots in the winning effort.
Lyons 13 DeSmet 1
Adam Cardone, Brendan Huddleston, George Lundgren and Nathan
Henderson each scored 3 times as the Lions knocked off DeSmet 13-1.
St Ignatius 8 Homewood-Flossmoor 7
Shane Hughes nailed the game-winner at the buzzer to send the
Wolfpack past the Vikings 8-7 in the third game of the Fenwick
Tournament on Thursday. Hughes, whose winning shot was deflected in from
beyond nine-meters, totaled 5 goals, while Jack Dunn notched 2 scores
and Gunnar Glaab tallied one goal in the win for SICP. Haden Santefort
scored 3 times, Johnny Schmidt notched 2 scores, and Luke Santefort made
9 saves in the narrow loss for H-F.
Stevenson 20 Lincoln-Way East 5
Collin Kapecki registered 4 goals while Alex Kapecki, Dan Maleski,
Kurt Holzer, and Luke Gable-Preze all scored 3 times in the
Patriots' 20-5 triumph over Lincoln-Way East. Mike Walsh netted 3
goals in the loss for the Griffins.
Curie 6 Brother Rice 3
Jeronimo Chavez scored 3 goals and the trio of Ivan Ariza, Omar
Pantoja, and Oscar Hernandez each scored once as Curie's 4-0 run in
the second quarter helped them build a lead they would never
relinquish as they beat Brother Rice 6-3 on Thursday. Matt Bachler
scored all 3 goals in the loss for the Crusaders.
Oak Park 17 DeSmet 6
Kiernan Kelty scored 3 goals and five other players recorded 2
scores as the Huskies' put together a 5-0 run to start the second
half to put the game away as they defeated DeSmet 17-6 in a late
night game on Thursday.
Fenwick 8 Lyons 6
Ryan Masi scored 3 goals and DJ Perez netted 2 goals as the Friars'
2-0 run in the second quarter made the difference in an 8-6 victory
over Lyons. Bailey Wendt, Danny Farmer, and Jack Mahoney each added
one goal and Will Skowron blocked 9 shots in the win for the hosts.
Tommy Kaptur recorded 2 goals while George Lundgren, Matt McDonnell,
Sam Szczepaniak, and Sean Shafer each scored once in the loss.
Neuqua Valley 12 St Patrick 7
The Wildcats grabbed their first win of the Fenwick Tournament by
beating St Patrick 12-7 on Friday. Joey Dalesandro and Simon
Shatinsky both scored 4 times and Lucas Becker added 2 scores for
the victors. Joseph Gibson led the Shamrocks with 3 goals and
Anthony Barsano netted 2 goals in the losing effort.
Naperville Central 14 Brother Rice 2
Christian May registered 4 goals and both Kyle Jackson and Phillip
Emden scored 3 times as Central beat Brother Rice 14-2. Nick Walker
also scored 2 goals in the winning effort. Brennan Russell and Tommy
Davey both scored once in the loss for the Crusaders.
Stevenson 7 Naperville North 3
Alex Kapecki and Dan Maleski both scored 2 goals to help Stevenson
fend off Naperville North 7-3. Cris Tomasetti, Collin Kapecki, and
Kurt Holzer each added one goal to aid the Patriots in their win.
David Holzer, Drake McClure, and Joe Tomashek each scored once in
the loss for North.
St Ignatius 10 Neuqua Valley 7
Shane Hughes totaled 7 goals and the trio of Brendan Stelmach,
Gunnar Glaab, and Theo Mossman each scored one goal in the
Wolfpack's 10-7 victory over Neuqua Valley. Simon Shatinsky netted 3
goals and Scott DePuy notched 2 scores in the loss for the Wildcats.
Naperville Central 11 Curie 9
Nick Walker connected on 5 shots and the trio of Christian May, Kyle
Jackson, and Phillip Emden each put in 2 goals in the Redhawks' 11-9
triumph over Curie. Ivan Ariza and Jeronimo Chavez both registered 4
scores in the loss for the Condors.
Naperville North 14 Lincoln-Way East 2
Matt Magee tallied 4 scores and Cole Jacobs slotted home 3 goals as
the Huskies ended the night with a convincing 14-2 victory over LWE.
Joe Tomashek and Spencer Wallace each put away 2 goals while both
David Holzer and Drake McClure tallied one score in the win. Nick
Drewes scored both goals in the losing effort for the Griffins.
Homewood-Flossmoor 13 St Patrick 8
Haden Santefort totaled 3 goals and eight different players got on the
scoresheet for the Vikings in a 13-8 win over St Patrick. Joseph Gibson
notched 4 scores and Anthony Barsano scored 2 times in the loss for the
Shamrocks.
Brother Rice 14 DeSmet 4
Matt Bachler recorded 4 goals and both Brennan Russell and James
Ryan netted 3 scores as Brother Rice knocked off DeSmet 14-4.
Oak Park 8 Lincoln-Way East 6
Josh Gronwold registered 4 goals to lead the Huskies to an 8-6
victory over LWE. Bryan McNitt scored 3 times in the loss for the
Griffins.
Fenwick 16 Stevenson 9
Danny Farmer and Jack Mahoney each scored 4 goals and Andrew
Bertschy added 3 scores as the Friars used a 5-1 run in the second
period to pull away from Stevenson and earn a 16-9 win. Ryan Masi
also scored 2 times in the winning effort. Andrew Shashin led the
Patriots with 2 scores in the loss.
Naperville Central 9 St Ignatius 6
Nick Walker scored 3 times and both Kyle Jackson and Phillp Emden
scored 2 goals as Naperville Central overcame an early 3-0 deficit
to beat St Ignatius 9-6. Gunnar Glaab totaled 3 goals and Shane
Hughes scored 2 goals in the losing effort.
Lyons 10 Naperville North 7
Thomas Waters registered 3 goals while George Lundgren, Nathan
Henderson, and Sam Szczepaniak put in 2 goals apiece in the Lions'
10-7 victory over the Huskies. Cole Jacobs, Drake McClure, and David
Holzer each connected on 2 shots in the loss for North.
Neuqua Valley 9 Curie 4
Simon Shatinsky threw down 4 goals and five other Wildcats joined
him on the scoresheet as Neuqua got past Curie 9-4 on Saturday.
Jeronimo Chavez led the Condors with 3 scores in the loss.
St Patrick 17 DeSmet 12
Mike Taylor celebrated his sixteenth birthday by scoring 3 goals and
helping the Shamrocks beat DeSmet 17-12 on Saturday afternoon.
Joseph Gibson led the team with 7 goals and Anthony Barsano recorded
4 goals in the winning effort.
Brother Rice 8 Homewood-Flossmoor 4
Brennan Russell registered 3 goals and Matt Bachler scored 2 times
to help lead the Crusaders past the Vikings 8-4. Haden Santefort
contributed 2 goals in the loss for H-F.
St Patrick 14 Oak Park 4
Dan Walsh notched 5 goals and Jason Shuler put in 3 goals as the
Shamrocks ended the event by beating Oak Park 14-4. Anthony Barsano
and Mike Schuler each added 2 goals in the winning effort. Kiernan
Kelty led the Huskies with 2 goals in the loss.
Homewood-Flossmoor 9 Lincoln-Way East 5
Haden Santefort tallied 4 scores while Mason Reidel and Pete
Cipriano each scored 2 times as the Vikings ended their time at
Fenwick with a 9-4 victory over LWE. Mike Walsh scored 2 goals for
East in the loss.
Lyons 9 Neuqua Valley 8 (OT)
Tommy Kaptur found the back of the net 3 times and Sam Szczepaniak
netted 2 scores to help the Lions outlast Neuqua Valley 9-8 in
overtime. Scott DePuy recorded 3 goals in the loss for the Wildcats.
Naperville North 7 Curie 4
Cole Jacobs and David Holzer both scored 3 goals while Charlie Calvo,
Drake McClure, and Joe Tomashek each added one score in the Huskies'
7-4 win over Curie. Omar Pantoja scored 3 times and Jeronimo Chavez
added an additional goal for the Condors.
Fenwick 10 Naperville Central 7
Danny Farmer and his ruthless backhand proved to be unstoppable for
the Redhawks as the Friars' senior scored 7 times to lead the hosts
to a 10-7 title-game victory over Naperville Central. Ryan Masi
added 2 goals, DJ Perez scored once and Will Skowron made 7 saves in
the win.
Stevenson 13 St Ignatius 5
Alex Kapecki, Cris Tomasetti, and Kurt Holzer each scored 3 goals
while Andrew Shashin added 2 scores as Stevenson won the third-place
game of the event by beating St Ignatius 13-5. Shane Hughes tallied
3 scores and Gunnar Glaab added 2 goals in the Wolfpack loss.
