GAME PREVIEWS (Friday, March 20)

 

 

 

FEATURED EVENT

FENWICK TOURNAMENT

The second day of the Fenwick Tournament kicks off with a contest between the first two game winners from Thursday night. The rest of the evening features six games, including Top 25 battles between Neuqua Valley-St Patrick, Brother Rice-Naperville Central, and Naperville North-Stevenson. The results will help set up Saturday's championship round.

 

OTHER KEY EVENTS

EVANSTON TOURNAMENT

The Evanston Tournament gets started on Friday night with six teams taking part in a fifteen game event that continues until Saturday afternoon. Parkway West joins the festivities this year from Missouri to take on the hosts, Bremen, GBN, GBS, and St Viator.

 

HINSDALE SOUTH TOURNAMENT

The Hornets host a six-team, nine-game event on Saturday that includes Andrew, Morton, Mt Carmel, Shepard, and STC East.

 

LWN TOURNAMENT

The five-team LWN Tournament features a visit from Missouri's Christian Brothers while also welcoming three other Illinois teams (LWC, STC North, Waubonsie Valley). The eight-game event begins early on Saturday morning.

 

MAINE EAST TOURNAMENT

The Blue Demons' host a wide-variety of teams from across the state of Illinois in a two-day affair that will culminate in a championship round on Saturday afternoon. The hosts are also joined by Bradley, BG, Deerfield, Maine South, Metea Valley, Northside, and Von Steuben.

 

MUNDELEIN TOURNAMENT

Mundelein's third annual tournament casts a wide variety of teams from across the Chicagoland-area in an eight-team, sixteen-game event that begins on Friday afternoon. The hosts belong to a group with New Trier, Hoffman, and Lindbergh; the second group consists of Hinsdale Central, Libertyville, Lockport and Niles West. The event culminates with a championship round beginning at 2:30pm on Saturday.

 

SCHAUMBURG TOURNAMENT

The Saxons' annual tournament is a two-day, eight-team, sixteen-game event that features teams that range from Missouri (Lafayette) to Chicago (St Rita, Whitney Young) to just about everywhere else in between (LWW, McHenry, St Rita, Wheeling, York).

 

VERNON HILLS TOURNAMENT

The Cougars host a four-team event that features Barrington, Highland Park, and Lake Forest. All six of the tournament games go down on Friday night, beginning at 4:00pm and concluding by 10:00pm.

FEATURED EVENT

NAPERVILLE CENTRAL TOURNAMENT

The Redhawks' tournament features an eclectic mix of six teams from around the state; the first two games of the event begin on Friday night, with the hosts taking on St Ignatius and Mother McAuley doing battle with Fremd. H-F and Mundelein join the festivities on Saturday and the tournament concludes with a mid-afternoon championship round.

 

OTHER KEY EVENTS

BREMEN TOURNAMENT

The preliminary round of the Bremen Tournament gets underway on Friday night, as the hosts welcome Argo, Hinsdale South, Lockport, Marian, Morton, Richards, and Stagg for an eight-team event.

 

GBS TOURNAMENT

The four-team GBS Tournament kicks off on Friday night with two contests and continues on Saturday as the hosts, Elk Grove, Hersey, and Palatine mix it up in a six-game, round-robin event.

 

JONES-PAYTON TOURNAMENT

The Eagles host their second annual Windy City Classic on Saturday with Niles West, Meadows, Taft, and Westinghouse in the city for a nine-game event beginning in the morning.

 

MAINE SOUTH TOURNAMENT

The Maine South Tournament features seven teams (Bradley, Deerfield, Libertyville, Highland Park, Maine East, Resurrection) in an event that kicks off on Friday night and concludes with a title game on Saturday afternoon.

 

NAPERVILLE NORTH TOURNAMENT

The Huskies host a three-team event on Saturday morning that features top-ranked Fenwick and Neuqua Valley. The morning begins with a rematch of last year's state quarterfinal match between the hosts and the Friars, which Fenwick won 11-8 en route to a state title. After the Friars do battle with Neuqua Valley, the hosts will face the Wildcats in a rematch of last weekend's tournament contest (North won 10-3).

 

R-B TOURNAMENT

The Bulldogs welcome three other teams for a six-game event that begins on Saturday morning and includes the likes of DLS, Oak Park, and Whitney Young.

 

STC NORTH TOURNAMENT

The STC North Tournament is typically a highly-competitive affair, so expect nothing less from this year's edition. Andrew, BG, Hoffman, Lake Forest, and Maine West join the North Stars for a nine game event that gets underway on Saturday morning before breaking into the championship round in the afternoon.

FENWICK TOURNAMENT

Fenwick 8 Lyons 6

Ryan Masi scored 3 goals and DJ Perez netted 2 goals as the Friars' 2-0 run in the second quarter made the difference in an 8-6 victory over Lyons. Bailey Wendt, Danny Farmer, and Jack Mahoney each added one goal and Will Skowron blocked 9 shots in the win for the hosts. Tommy Kaptur recorded 2 goals while George Lundgren, Matt McDonnell, Sam Szczepaniak, and Sean Shafer each scored once in the loss.

 

Neuqua Valley 12 St Patrick 7

The Wildcats grabbed their first win of the Fenwick Tournament by beating St Patrick 12-7 on Friday. Joey Dalesandro and Simon Shatinsky both scored 4 times and Lucas Becker added 2 scores for the victors. Joseph Gibson led the Shamrocks with 3 goals and Anthony Barsano netted 2 goals in the losing effort.

 

Naperville Central 14 Brother Rice 2

Christian May registered 4 goals and both Kyle Jackson and Phillip Emden scored 3 times as Central beat Brother Rice 14-2. Nick Walker also scored 2 goals in the winning effort. Brennan Russell and Tommy Davey both scored once in the loss for the Crusaders.

 

Stevenson 7 Naperville North 3

Alex Kapecki and Dan Maleski both scored 2 goals to help Stevenson fend off Naperville North 7-3. Cris Tomasetti, Collin Kapecki, and Kurt Holzer each added one goal to aid the Patriots in their win. David Holzer, Drake McClure, and Joe Tomashek each scored once in the loss for North.

 

St Ignatius 10 Neuqua Valley 7

Shane Hughes totaled 7 goals and the trio of Brendan Stelmach, Gunnar Glaab, and Theo Mossman each scored one goal in the Wolfpack's 10-7 victory over Neuqua Valley. Simon Shatinsky netted 3 goals and Scott DePuy notched 2 scores in the loss for the Wildcats.

 

Naperville Central 11 Curie 9

Nick Walker connected on 5 shots and the trio of Christian May, Kyle Jackson, and Phillip Emden each put in 2 goals in the Redhawks' 11-9 triumph over Curie. Ivan Ariza and Jeronimo Chavez both registered 4 scores in the loss for the Condors.

 

Naperville North 14 Lincoln-Way East 2

Matt Magee tallied 4 scores and Cole Jacobs slotted home 3 goals as the Huskies ended the night with a convincing 14-2 victory over LWE. Joe Tomashek and Spencer Wallace each put away 2 goals while both David Holzer and Drake McClure tallied one score in the win. Nick Drewes scored both goals in the losing effort for the Griffins.

 

 

MUNDELEIN TOURNAMENT

New Trier 18 Hoffman 6

Henry Yavitt and Rodrigo Garcia both notched 2 scores as the Trevians rolled past Hoffman 18-6.

 

Lockport 16 Hinsdale Central 2

Eric Johnson, Eric Krawcyzk, and Zach Elias each scored 4 goals and Pat Melaniphy denied 9 shots as the Porters defeated Hinsdale Central 16-2. Steven Howell added 2 goals while Matt Cavanaugh and Tommy Boland both put in one score in the victory.

 

 

SCHAUMBURG TOURNAMENT

Schaumburg 12 York 10

James Birriel and Tyler Gustafson both registered 4 goals and Edin Latic made 8 saves as the Saxons got past York 12-10 in the tournament opener at Schaumburg. Frank Kovar added 2 scores in the win for the hosts. Logan Friendreis and Tim Evely each tallied 3 scores while Ben Howlett and Danny Stumpf both put in 2 goals in the loss for the Dukes.

 

McHenry 7 Lafayette 7

Kevin Braun scored 3 goals to help the Warriors hold on for a 7-7 draw with Lafayette on Friday. Garrett Floden, Gavin Dunn, Jackson Smith, and Rebecca Dabrowski each added one score for McHenry. Rastko Stojsin led the Lancers with 2 scores in the draw.
 

St Rita 16 Lincoln-Way West 13

Dan Sliazis and Matt Lopez both recorded 4 goals and Eric Johnson tallied 3 scores in the Mustangs' 16-13 win over LWW. Lorenzo Henrichs and Kevin Cronin each scored 2 times and Joey Qualter added one goal in the winning effort. Jake Carlson poured in 10 goals while Devin Janosek and Pat Dunne each scored once in the loss for the Warriors.

 

Whitney Young 14 Wheeling 8

Josh Escasa totaled 5 goals to lead the Dolphins to a 14-8 victory over Wheeling. Nate Reiff tallied 6 goals in the loss for the Wildcats.

Lincoln-Way Central 17 Christian Brothers 4

Pat Burke and Zach Otto both scored 4 goals, Luke Bloodgood tallied 3 scores, and Jake Burke made 15 saves in the Knights' 17-4 win over Christian Brothers.

GBS TOURNAMENT

Palatine 11 Glenbrook South 7

Caroline Wojtas totaled 6 goals and Meghan Woell made 7 saves and earned her first career win as the Pirates held off GBS 11-7 on Friday. Hannah Jozefat and Mathilde Mogenson both notched 2 scores and Ashley Helminski scored once in the win for Palatine.

 

 

MAINE SOUTH TOURNAMENT

Maine South 8 Maine East 7

Kalin Bender scored 3 goals and both Kamila Orzech and Sammy Zaug netted 2 goals as the Hawks opened their own event by edging Maine East 8-7.

 

Maine South 16 Deerfield 11

Kalin Bender poured in 9 goals and Sammy Zaug netted 3 scores as the hosts topped Deerfield 16-11.

 

 

NAPERVILLE CENTRAL TOURNAMENT

St Ignatius 13 Naperville Central 2

Diana Fernandez and Stephania Lopez each scored 5 goals as the Wolfpack jumped out to a 7-0 lead at halftime and never looked back in a 13-2 win over Naperville Central. Tara White registered 2 goals and Karen Juarez added one score in the victory. Kaela Codo scored both goals in the loss for the Redhawks.

 

Mother McAuley 9 Fremd 2

Julie Olivares netted 2 goals and the trio of Claire Mueller, Frances Bauer, and Tess Bowens each put in one goal as the Mighty Macs built a 5-0 lead over the Vikings at halftime. Karolina Urban and Kayla Helsdingen scored two consecutive goals in the third period to cut the advantage to 5-2, but the Mighty Macs closed the game on a 4-0 run courtesy of two goals apiece by Mueller and Maggie Hennigan.
