Weekend #2 Recap: Fenwick Tournament Update/Recaps

 

FRIDAY'S GAME RECAPS

BOYS

DeLaSalle 18 Morgan Park 11

Erik Medina scored 3 goals to lead DeLaSalle to an 18-11 nonconference win over Morgan Park on Friday evening.

 

Mundelein 18 Hoffman 6

Frank Lukacs tallied 5 goals, Connor Black added 4 scores, and Adam Turkula and Will Davidson each recorded 3 goals as Mundelein beat Hoffman 18-6 on Friday afternoon. Mike Christen scored 3 goals in the loss for the Hawks.

 

Evanston Tournament

St Viator 12 Bremen 9

Ed Soler scored 4 goals and Gregg O'Connor and Ryan Boyer both added 3 scores in St Viator's 12-9 win over Bremen.

 

St Viator 14 Evanston 10

Gregg O'Connor had a monster game on the offensive end, scoring 9 goals, as St Viator earned their second win of the Evanston Tournament after earning a 14-10 decision over the hosts. Ryan Boyer added 3 scores and drew 6 ejections in the victory.

 

Fenwick Tournament

Fenwick 11 Curie 2

Connor Brown scored 5 times and Matt Farmer added 3 scores as Fenwick topped Curie 11-2. Ted Herbstritt added 2 goals and DJ Gallo scored once in the win for the Friars.

 

Naperville Central 8 Oak Park 2

The Redhawks built a 5-0 halftime lead and never looked back in an 8-2 victory over Oak Park in the second game of the night. Kyle Rickert scored 4 goals and Pat May added 2 scores in the win for the Redhawks. Armando Lee and Luke O'Connell each scored once for the Huskies in the loss.

 

Lyons 13 Neuqua Valley 7

David Sekula scored 4 goals and both Joe Shannon and Zach Schoneman tallied 3 scores as Lyons held off Neuqua Valley 13-7 on Friday. The Wildcats got to within one goal early in the third period, but the Lions went on a 6-1 to close out the game over the final ten minutes. AJ Quebbeman and Kevin Patterson each scored 3 times in the loss for Neuqua.

 

St Ignatius 10 Naperville North 7

Kevin Barth scored 4 goals, Mark Alvarado added 3 scores, and Tom Maloney tallied 2 goals as St Ignatius knocked off Naperville North 10-7. The Huskies' Eric Curia cut the Wolfpack lead down to 9-6 midway through the fourth quarter, but Barth came up with a key steal in front of the North goal and scored a quick goal to ensure the victory for Ignatius. Curia scored 4 times for the Huskies, while Bradley Helder added 2 scores in the loss.

 

Naperville Central 13 Stevenson 5

Dennis Herron, Kyle Rickert, and Matt Reasons each scored 3 times apiece as Naperville Central ran out to a 9-1 halftime lead en route to a 13-5 victory over Stevenson. Kristian Altuve also scored 2 goals in the Redhawks' win. Five players scored one goal each in the loss for the Patriots.

 

Brother Rice 11 Neuqua Valley 11

Neuqua Valley used a 4-1 run in the fourth quarter to come-from-behind and earn an 11-11 draw with Brother Rice in late night action at the Fenwick Tournament. The Wildcats finish the preliminary round ahead of the Crusaders in second place based on the lower number of goals allowed. Kevin Patterson scored 4 goals and both David Lesniak and Matt Vechiola chipped in with 3 goals apiece for Neuqua, while Mike Mulcrone poured in 6 goals for the Crusaders.

 

Naperville North 14 Lincoln-Way East 7

Jacob Thompson scored 4 goals, Jack Henderson added 3 scores, and Aaron Katz and Eric Curia each recorded 2 goals in Naperville North's 14-7 win over Lincoln-Way East. Ryan Stuart and Steve Walczak each scored 2 goals to lead the Griffins in the losing effort.

 

Hinsdale Central Tournament

Hinsdale Central 18 R-B 3

David Graveline, Peter Flood, and Strati Koulouris each tallied 3 goals as Hinsdale Central beat R-B 18-3 on Friday.

 

STC East 18 Lincoln-Way Central 12

Shaun Seuscheck totaled 6 goals and 4 steals and Matt VanGyseghem and Stephen Mason each scored 4 times as STC East beat LWC 18-12 on Friday night. Petar Jackovich scored 7 goals in the loss for the Knights.

 

STC North 8 Andrew 5

Kyle Passini scored 4 goals, Justin Jacobson totaled 5 assists, and Eli Broxham made 10 saves to help lift STC North to an 8-5 win over Andrew in their tournament opener at Hinsdale Central on Friday. Jimmy Fletcher scored 3 times in the loss for Andrew.

 

Lockport 16 Hinsdale South 5

Brian Cavanaugh and Chris Bowman both tallied 5 goals as Lockport knocked off Hinsdale South 16-5. Ryan O'Toole registered 3 goals in the loss for the Hornets.

 

Hinsdale Central 7 Andrew 6

Niko Krompilas scored 3 goals for the Red Devils in their 7-6 win over Andrew on Friday. Kyle Heneghan scored 3 times in the loss for the T-Bolts.


GIRLS

Loyola 10 New Trier 9 (OT)

Caitlin Sershon with just over one minute left in the first overtime period after Rachel Nieman drew an ejection and Loyola held New Trier scoreless for the entire extra session to earn a 10-9 road victory over the Trevians. Brittany Wallace tallied 4 goals and Sershon added 3 scores, while Evan Swenson totaled 2 goals and 3 assists in the win for the Ramblers. Erika Nothnagel registered 4 goals, Anna Horstkotte added 2 scores, and Zaz Saclarides stopped 9 shots in the loss for New Trier.

 

Bremen Tournament

Bremen 18 Stagg 10

Emma Martinus scored 6 goals and Hannah Schultz added 5 scores to lead Bremen to an 18-10 win over Stagg. Liz Hadhazy put in 5 scores in the loss for the Chargers.

 

Hinsdale South 13 Argo 2

Alecia Lewis registered 4 goals to help lift Hinsdale Central over Argo 13-2 on Friday.

 

Richards 18 Bradley 12

Lisa Gorski scored a whopping 12  goals to lead Richards to an 18-12 victory over Bradley.

Fenwick Tournament - The 13-team, 26-game Fenwick Tournament continues on Friday with more key matchups between highly-ranked teams. See Fenwick Tournament Preview.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

Evanston Tournament - The field at Evanston includes the hosts, Bremen, GBS, GBN, McHenry, and St Viator.

Hinsdale Central Tournament - The opening round of the Red Devils' tournament starts at 5:00pm and should feature several close contests between the likes of Andrew, Hinsdale South, Lockport, LWC, R-B, STC East, STC North and the hosts.


GIRLS

MATCH OF THE DAY

#8 Loyola at #12 New Trier (6:30pm) - The Trevians and Ramblers resume their rivalry in Winnetka on Friday night.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

Bremen Tournament - The opening round of the Red Jaguars' tournament uses a playoff format, so each winner on Friday night will advance to the Saturday's semifinal round. Argo, Bradley, Hinsdale South, Marian, Morton, Richards, and Stagg will look to upset the fourteenth-ranked hosts on their home turf.
