TOURNAMENT RECAP (March 16)

North Stars Run Away With Tournament Title
St Charles North won their own tournament by earning wins over Andrew, Hoffman, and Maine West on Saturday afternoon. Nicole Guyett (11 goals) and Sarah Stern (10 goals) led the way offensively, while goalkeeper Hannah Horsfall blocked 33 shots in the three-game set for the hosts. Maine West earned two narrow wins over Buffalo Grove and Lake Forest to finish in second place, while Andrew bounced back from an early loss to win two straight and claim third place. Hoffman edged Lake Forest 7-6 in the fifth-place game for their first win of the day.

Saturday's Game Recaps

STC North 13 Hoffman 2

Sarah Stern scored 5 goals and Nicole Guyett added 4 scores as the North Stars kicked off their tourney with a 13-2 win over Hoffman. Kelsey Thiele added a goal and 4 steals and Hannah Horsfall rejected 13 shots in the victory.

Maine West 3 Buffalo Grove 1

Carly Romano totaled 2 goals and added an assist, Emily Morrison led the defense with 4 steals, and the goalie combo of Sarah Godawa and Tara Woodford made 12 saves and allowed one goal as Maine West topped Buffalo Grove 3-1. Kara Atwood scored once in the victory for the Warriors.

STC North 7 Andrew 5

Maddie Jones netted 2 scores and Hannah Horsfall made 13 saves as the hosts beat Andrew 7-5 to move on to the title game of their own event on Saturday. Annemarie Lettiere and Genna McCarthy both put in 2 scores and Megan Hofer scored once and drew 6 ejections in the loss for the T-Bolts.

Maine West 5 Lake Forest 4 (OT)

Emily Morrison scored the game-tying goal at the end of regulation and Carly Romano registered the game-winner in sudden-death overtime as Maine West outlasted Lake Forest 5-4 to advance to the STC North Tournament's title game. Romano scored 2 times in the win, while both Kara Atwood and Shannon O'Hagan scored once for the winners.

Andrew 15 Hoffman 4

Courtney Carter, Megan Hofer, and Rachel Fus each scored 3 times and Annamarie Lettiere and Genny McCarthy both scored 2 times in Andrew's 15-4 victory over Hoffman. Kasia Serwin led the Hawks with 2 goals in the loss.

Buffalo Grove 6 Lake Forest 5

Hoffman 7 Lake Forest 6 (5th place)

Andrew 7 Buffalo Grove 4 (3rd place)

Megan Hofer scored 4 goals and Courtney Carter, Genny McCarthy, and Rachel Fus each scored once in Andrew's 7-4 victory over Buffalo Grove. Margaret Lotzer led the Bison with 2 goals, while Bridget Whited and Callie Fasching each scored once in the losing effort.

STC North 14 Maine West 2 (1st place)

Nicole Guyett scored 6 times and Sarah Stern notched 4 scores as STC North won their own tournament by beating Maine West 14-2. Hannah Horsfall recorded 7 saves in the victory for the North Stars. Carly Romano scored both goals for the Warriors in the losing effort.
