GAME RECAPS (Friday, March 16)

 

BOYS

Lake Forest 8 Highland Park 7

Colin Rowe scored 3 goals and David Hayes added 2 scores as the Scouts edged Highland Park 8-7 in the Vernon Hills Tournament opener for both teams.

 

Lindblom 23 Chicago AS 13

Marshawn Shelton recorded 14 goals to carry Lindblom past Chicago AS 23-13 on Friday afternoon.

 

Payton 15 Westinghouse 6

Joseph Spadoro recorded 5 goals to help lift Payton to a 15-6 victory over Westinghouse.


Day 2 - Game Recaps

Fenwick 13 Curie 8

Matt Farmer totaled 4 goals, Viken Huening scored 3 times, and Matt Bresnahan notched 2 scores as the hosts earned a 13-8 victory over Curie in Friday's first game. Tommy McGuire also stopped 8 shots in the Friars' win. Marcos Hernandez and Ramiro Almarez both scored 3 goals in the loss for the Condors.

 

Lyons 17 Naperville Central 4

Joe Shannon and Kovas Zygas each scored 5 goals and Peter Dore chipped in with 4 scores as LT broke the game open with a 6-0 run in the opening quarter and cruised to a 17-4 win over Naperville Central. TJ Johnson led the Redhawks with 2 scores in the losing effort.

 

Oak Park 6 Neuqua Valley 6

Troy Williams scored 3 goals and helped OPRF build a 4-2 halftime lead, but Will Russell (3 goals) led a second-half comeback that saw Neuqua outscore the Huskies by the same margin to end the game tied at 6-6.

 

Naperville North 19 St Ignatius 3

Eric Curia scored 5 times and Adam Nyland added 4 scores as the Huskies downed the Wolfpack 19-3. Nolan Roberts also scored 3 times in the North victory. Billy Barth scored all 3 goals in the loss for St Ignatius.

 

Naperville Central 7 Stevenson 5

Matt Reasons scored 3 goals and Neal Hosper added 2 tallies to lead Naperville Central to a 7-5 win over Stevenson on Friday. Alex Shkiler scored 3 times and Kyle Plotsky scored 2 goals in the loss for the Patriots.

 

Neuqua Valley 13 Brother Rice 12

Kevin Patterson scored 5 goals, Robert Vechiola recorded 4 scores, and Will Russell scored 3 times as NV held off Brother Rice 13-12 on Friday night. Mike Mulcrone scored 4 goals and Dave Jackson recorded 3 goals in the loss for the Crusaders.

 

Naperville North 10 Lincoln-Way East 5

Eric Curia led all scorers with 5 goals as Naperville North knocked off LWE 10-5 in the final game of the second day of the Fenwick Tournament.


GIRLS

Libertyville 13 Conant 10

Sam Voelker poured in 6 goals to lift Libertyville to a 13-10 win over Conant on Friday night. Jordan Liss and Molly Burns each added 3 scores in the Wildcats' win. Kristi Burke totaled 4 goals in the losing effort for the Cougars, while Andie Cobb and Jessica Southern both scored 3 times for Conant.

 

New Trier 17 Loyola 2

Isabelle Baneaux scored 4 goals and both Hannah Caywood and Jocelyn Kupets notched 3 scores in New Trier's 17-2 victory over Loyola. Katie Lynch scored both goals in the loss for the Ramblers.

 

Northside 12 Lane 9

Meghan Quigley totaled 5 goals and Sarah Bodenstein added 2 goals as NSP defeated Lane 12-9. Natalie O'Connell led the Indians with 7 scores in the loss.

 

Richards 13 Stagg 12

Chris Dvoracek scored 9 goals to lead Richards past Stagg in the second game of the Bremen Tourney.


Day 1 - Game Recaps

 

Fremd 9 Naperville North 3

Sam Matuszewski scored 3 goals and both Lauren Zambelli and Taylor Spoonholtz scored 2 times as the Vikings defeated the Huskies 9-3. Breanna Anderson and Sam del Prado also scored once and Julie Conrath made 11 saves in Fremd's win. Jillian Eiken, Sofi Prorok, and Taylor Bridgman each tallied one score for North.

 

Naperville Central 8 Homewood-Flossmoor 1

Abbey Kerth and Madison Nervig both recorded 2 goals and Julia Campbell blocked 17 shots as the hosts emerged with an 8-1 victory over the Vikings. Rebecca Mathews scored the lone goal for H-F.

 

Mundelein 11 Oak Park 4

Karrie Kozokar scored 8 goals and Michelle Barron made 7 saves as Mundelein held off Oak Park 11-4.

 

Fenwick 9 Mother McAuley 6

Cara Borkovec scored 2 times and seven other Friars' players recorded single goals to lift Fenwick past McAuley 9-6 on Friday evening. Clare Bryar scored 3 goals and Adriana Izquierdo notched 2 scores in the loss for the Mighty Macs.

 

Naperville Central 16 Mundelein 4

Abbey Kerth and Lauren Gunn each scored 3 goals and Erin Reagan, Madison Nervig, and Jenny Doyle all added 2 scores in the Redhawks' 16-4 victory over Mundelein. Karrie Kozokar tallied 2 scores in the loss for the Mustangs.

Fenwick Tournament

The second day of the Fenwick Tournament features seven more contests between the top teams in IL. The Friars face an early challenge from Curie, Naperville Central takes on LT, and Neuqua and Oak Park do battle...and that's just the first three games of the night! Saturday's championship round will be nearly set by the end of the night.

Hinsdale Central Tournament

The Red Devils play host to a diversified eight-team field beginning on Friday; the participants include the hosts, Andrew, Hinsdale South, Lockport, LWC, R-B, STC East, and STC North.

The field is stacked at the Naperville Central Tournament this weekend; the field has expanded to eight teams and includes the second-ranked hosts, the defending champs Fenwick, and several state tourney hopefuls like Fremd, H-F, Mother McAuley, Mundelein, Naperville North, and Oak Park. Expect fireworks early and often...

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

#11 Loyola at #9 New Trier

The Ramblers and Trevians renew their rivalry on Friday night in what often times serves as a sectional final preview at the end of the year. The visitors are still without offensive force Evan Swenson, but they still hope to send a message to the hosts early on in the season when the two meet in Winnetka.
