GAME PREVIEWS (Friday, March 15)

 

 

 

TOURNAMENT TO WATCH

FENWICK TOURNAMENT

The Fenwick Tournament begins its' second day of action with seven more preliminary round games. The hosts play city-rival Oak Park in the first match, which serves as a prelude to a showdown between top-ranked Lyons and third-ranked Naperville North. Naperville Central plays against Stevenson and Ignatius on Friday, Neuqua Valley takes on both St Patrick and Brother Rice, while Naperville North also faces Lincoln-Way East later in the evening.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON

EVANSTON TOURNAMENT

The Evanston Tournament gets underway on Friday night with six teams playing six games to get the weekend started. The hosts battle GBS and St Viator, McHenry takes on GBN and GBS, and Bremen faces both GBN and St Viator on Friday night.

NAPERVILLE CENTRAL TOURNAMENT

The Redhawks' tournament features several of the top teams in the state of Illinois; the first two games of the event begin on Friday night, with the hosts taking on Homewood-Flossmoor and Mother McAuley doing battle with Mundelein. Fremd and STC East joining the festivities on Saturday.

BREMEN TOURNAMENT

The preliminary round of the Bremen Tournament gets underway on Friday night, as the hosts welcome Argo, Bradley, Hinsdale South, Marian, Morton, Richards, and Stagg for an eight-team event.

FENWICK TOURNAMENT

Fenwick 10 Oak Park 2

Danny and Matt Farmer each scored 3 goals as the Friars jumped out to a 10-0 lead before giving up two late goals in a 10-2 victory over Oak Park. Matt Bresnahan added 2 scores and both Omar Calderon and Trevor McLean chipped in with a goal in the Fenwick victory. Henry Carpenter and Nathan Pimentel each scored once in the loss for the Huskies.

 

Lyons 6 Naperville North 5

Joe Shannon scored 4 goals, including the eventual game-winner, as Lyons remained perfect in 2013 with a 6-5 victory over Naperville North. Nathan Kriha and Peter Dore each added one goal apiece for LT in the win. Gianmarco Duin led the Huskies with 2 scores, while Eric Curia, Garrett Nash, and Nolan Roberts all scored once in the loss.

 

Neuqua Valley 10 St Patrick 4

Will Russell recorded 5 goals and Alex Thoele scored 2 times as the Wildcats earned a 10-4 win over St Patrick. Brian DePuy, Lucas Becker, and Simon Shatinsky each scored once in the Neuqua win. Connor O'Rourke led the Shamrocks with 2 scores, while Joseph Gibson and Patrick Sisk each scored once in the losing effort.

 

Naperville Central 8 Stevenson 5

Christian May and Nick Walker each scored 3 times as the Redhawks used a 4-0 fourth quarter blitz to overtake the Patriots and claim an 8-5 win. Central trailed 5-4 entering the final period, but held their counterparts scoreless while putting together their impressive run. Adam Hunter and Joe Bigenwald each added a goal in the win for the Redhawks. Remy Dalloul and Varun Mummadi both scored 2 goals and Mitchell Sokolsky netted one score in the loss for Stevenson.

 

Naperville North 9 Lincoln-Way East 7

Eric Curia scored 3 of his game-high 6 goals in the final period to help Naperville North come-from-behind to a feisty Lincoln-Way East team 9-7 on Friday night. Gianmarco Duin scored 2 times and Nolan Roberts chipped in with a goal in the Huskies' win. Sean Romberg led the Griffins with 2 goals in the loss.

 

Brother Rice 8 Neuqua Valley 7

Dan Whalen, Dave Jackson, and Kevin Mayer each registered 2 goals as Brother Rice eked out an 8-7 victory over Neuqua Valley. Will Russell scored 3 goals in the loss for the Wildcats.

 

Naperville Central 10 St Ignatius 7

Adam Hunter, Christian May, and Nick Walker each tallied 2 scores as the Redhawks held off St Ignatius to earn a 10-7 win in the late game on Friday night. Tom Dowling recorded 3 goals and Shane Hughes notched 2 scores in the losing effort for the Wolfpack.

 

EVANSTON TOURNAMENT

Glenbrook South 13 Evanston 7

Jake Nelson scored 5 goals and Matt Cubelic blocked 12 shots in the Titans' 13-7 triumph over Evanston.

 

Glenbrook South 11 McHenry 7

Jake Nelson registered 4 goals to help GBS earn their second win of the evening, an 11-7 victory over McHenry.

 

OTHER KEY GAMES

DeSmet 17 Lincoln-Way North 10

DeSmet earned their second win of their trip to Illinois by beating Lincoln-Way North 17-10. Curtis Thrun recorded 5 goals, Pat Budney scored 3 times, and AJ Burt totaled 2 goals and 3 assists in the loss for the Phoenix.

 

Morgan Park 10 Kennedy 9 (OT)

Jackie Dempsey scored 2 goals in the second overtime period and totaled 4 scores in Morgan Park's 10-9 extra-time win over Kennedy on Friday. Christian Cooper made 8 saves in the deep-end for the winners.

 

Mundelein 12 Hoffman 11 (OT)

Paul Vysotsky tied the game with two seconds left in regulation and Connor Black converted a penalty shot in overtime to lift Mundelein to a 12-11 win over Hoffman on Friday evening. Black, Jason Rehor, and John Brueckbauer each notched 3 scores and goalie Matt Angelback made 11 saves in the Mustangs' win. Adam Pasnicki scored 7 goals and Logan Gizel blocked 16 shots in the loss for the Hawks.

 

Oakville 14 Lincoln-Way Central 7

Oakville started their visit to Illinois with a 14-7 win over Lincoln-Way Central on Friday. Alex McCormick scored 2 goals to lead the Knights in the losing effort.

 

Payton-Jones 12 Lake View 10

Alex Girovich tallied 4 goals and Mason Randle and Mike Kelly scored 3 goals apiece in the Grizzlies 12-10 win over Lake View. Greg Johnson scored 9 times in the loss for the Wildcats.

Bremen 9 Stagg 7

Hannah Alvarez, Hannah Egan, and Jacky Zuniga each tallied 2 scores as the hosts held off Stagg to earn a 9-7 win to start their own tournament on Friday. Morgan Hickman and Natalie Graves each registered 3 goals in the loss for the Chargers.

 

Bradley 9 Hinsdale South 8

Drew L'Ecuyer and Rachel Thorson both recorded 3 goals in the Boilers' 9-8 victory over Hinsdale South. Kelsey Barry scored 3 goals in the loss for the Hornets.

 

GBS TOURNAMENT

Glenbrook South 12 Palatine 10

Maggie Dietrich scored 4 goals and both Anne Edwards and Jessie Kerndt netted 3 scores as the hosts upended Palatine 12-10 on Friday. Rachel Chumbook notched 8 scores, Caroline Wojtas chipped in with a goal and 6 steals, and Kim Butler blocked 12 shots in the loss for the Pirates.

 

NAPERVILLE CENTRAL TOURNAMENT

Naperville Central 9 Homewood-Flossmoor 3

Erin Reagan scored 3 goals and Madison Nervig tallied 2 scores to lead the Redhawks to a 9-3 win over Homewood-Flossmoor on Friday evening. Jenny Doyle, Kaela Codo, Kristina Altuve, and Michelle Spaits each scored once, while goalie Jessica Fox made 7 saves in the Central win. Maddy Morris scored 2 times, Amber Barney tallied one score, and Anna Shirer blocked 17 shots in the Vikings' loss.

 

Mother McAuley 9 Mundelein 3

Amy Kopale and Vicki Arcinieaga each scored 2 goals to help Mother McAuley get past Mundelein 9-3 on Friday. Clare Bryar, Fran Williamson, Emily Bowens, Kristen Kleist, and Meg Golon each scored once in the Mighty Macs' win. Michelle Barron scored all 3 goals in the loss for the Mustangs.

 

NAPERVILLE NORTH TOURNAMENT

Naperville North 7 Neuqua Valley 5

Katie Horn recorded 4 goals and Taylor Bridgman contributed 2 scores in the Huskies' 7-5 victory over Neuqua Valley. Kim Lechowicz also added a goal in the win for North. Ann Kathrin Becker led NVHS with 2 scores, while Brooke Bedford, Deanna Hoff, and Devon Olson each added a goal in the loss.

 

Loyola 17 Riverside-Brookfield 2

Evan Swenson slotted in 7 goals, Marta Considine netted 4 scores, and Allison Sajnaj chipped in with 3 goals as Loyola earned a 17-2 victory over R-B on Friday night. Ellen Garrity, Emi Crogan, and Katie Lynch each scored once in the Ramblers' win. Dana Callanan and Lucia Adami both notched one score each in the loss for R-B.

 

OTHER KEY GAMES

Libertyville 14 Conant 7

The Wildcats won their second straight game on Friday night by beating visiting Conant 14-7. Carmen Rosas scored 4 goals, Angie Skittone scored 2 times, and goalie Maddy Demaret made 16 saves in the nonconference loss for the Cougars.

 

Payton-Jones 11 Lake View 7

Rebecca Sudworth put in 5 goals and Samantha Blumenthal added 4 scores in the Grizzlies' 11-7 victory over Lake View on Friday night. Baylee Cabrera scored 4 times and Halah Hamid added 3 goals in the loss for the Wildcats.

 

St Ignatius 13 Lane 3

Clare MacNamara scored 4 goals, Becky Insalaco totaled 3 goals and drew 3 ejections, and both Tammy Stelnicki and Theresa Cariola registered 2 goals as the Wolfpack downed Lane 13-3.

 

York 11 Hinsdale Central 3

Carly Redmond poured in 6 goals and Jess Kellerstrass and Perri Brinkmeier each tallied 2 scores as the Lady Dukes beat Hinsdale Central 11-3 in a West Suburban Conference fixture on Friday.
