PALATINE TOURNAMENT

The fourth-annual Palatine Tournament normally provides a much better look at how several of the top teams in the state will fare during the upcoming season. This year's edition will be no exception, as some of the state's best teams do battle in a nine-team tournament that features six exciting contests on Friday night.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON

NAPERVILLE TOURNAMENT

The Naperville-area's best teams get together over the weekend for a ten-game tournament that serves as a preview to who will have the upper-hand when the postseason rolls around.

 

STAGG TOURNAMENT

The Chargers welcome seven teams to Palos Hills for a two-day tournament that features five games on Friday night.

FEATURED EVENT

MUNDELEIN TOURNAMENT

The top three teams in the state heading into the 2014 season meet for a three-game extravaganza on Friday night in Mundelein. The third-ranked hosts take on the top-ranked defending champions St Ignatius in the opener, second-ranked Fenwick battles the Wolfpack in the second game, and the Mustangs square off against the Friars in the night's final game.

NAPERVILLE TOURNAMENT

The five Naperville-area teams gather for their annual Week 1 tournament on Friday night at Naperville North.

 

6:00pm #18 York at #11 Lyons

West Suburban Conference foes square off in a Friday night clash when Lyons plays host to York in the second game of the season for both teams.

PALATINE TOURNAMENT

Palatine 8 New Trier 7

Wally Kleinfeldt scored 3 goals and both Kristian Kalev and Omar El Hoffi scored 2 times as Palatine got past New Trier 8-7. Colin White made 11 saves in the victory for the Pirates. Chandler Tempest tallied 2 scores in the loss for the Trevians.

 

Loyola 9 Curie 5

Mike Zahorik registered 3 scores while Cameron Shewchuck and Matt Kearney put in 2 scores in Loyola's 9-5 win over Curie. Jeronimo Chavez led the Condors with 2 scores in the losing effort.

 

St Ignatius 16 H-F 9

Billy Barth scored 5 goals, Tom Dowling tallied 4 scores, and both John Reyes and Shane Hughes scored 3 times in the Wolfpack's 16-9 victory over H-F. Haden Santefort registered 4 scores, Broc Thompson put in 3 goals, and Marcus Perry netted 2 goals in the Vikings' loss.

 

McHenry 9 New Trier 9

Matt Peck netted 3 goals and both Garrett Floden and Kevin Braun scored 2 times to help McHenry finish in a 9-9 tie with New Trier. Meanwhile, Chris Keller registered 3 goals and five other Trevians each scored once (Chandler Tempest, Jack Riggio, Jack Vorwald, Michael Krueger, Murphy McQuet).

 

Loyola 19 Mundelein 4

Cameron Shewchuck scored 7 goals to lead the Ramblers to a 19-4 win over Mundelein. Art Kasemets tallied 2 scores in the loss for the Mustangs.

 

St Ignatius 14 Latin 7

Tom Dowling recorded 4 goals, John Reyes added 3 scores and both Billy Barth and Shane Hughes put in 2 goals as SICP defeated Latin 14-7. Steven Grotewold tallied 3 scores in the loss for the Romans.

 

 

NAPERVILLE TOURNAMENT

Naperville North 15 Neuqua Valley 8

Nolan Roberts scored 7 times and both Joe Tomashek and Luke Landiak put in 3 goals as the Huskies opened the Naperville Tournament with a 15-8 win over Neuqua Valley. Gianmarco Duin also scored 2 goals in the winning effort.

 

Naperville North 13 Naperville Central 10

Nolan Roberts registered 4 scores and Gianmarco Duin added 3 goals as the Huskies outlasted their rivals 13-10 to improve to 2-0 on Friday night. Drake McClure and Luke Landiak each added 2 scores in the win for North.

 

Neuqua Valley 14 Metea Valley 4

Simon Shatinsky scored 3 times and both Joey Dalesandro and Ian Ivkovich tallied 2 scores as Neuqua beat Metea 14-4 on Friday night. Austin Mollway made 8 saves in the win for NVHS.

 

 

STAGG TOURNAMENT

STC North 9 Stagg 7

Ross Davis totaled 4 goals and John Pretet added 3 scores to help lift the North Stars over the Chargers 9-7 on Friday. Collin Bawolek also stopped 13 shots in the win for North. Harlan Long netted 3 scores in the loss for Stagg.

 

R-B 11 Hinsdale Central 7

Dan Magee recorded 4 goals to help the Bulldogs beat Hinsdale Central 11-7 on Friday. Wade Kinney put in 3 scores in the loss for the Red Devils.

 

Morton 10 Bradley 7

Tommy Lyzbicki registered 4 scores as the Mustangs knocked off Bradley 10-7. Grant Langfoss scored 4 times and Nick Dalzell punched in 2 scores in the loss for the Boilers.

 

Stagg 8 St Rita 6

Evan Johnson and Nick Amendola each recorded 3 goals to help Stagg outlast St Rita 8-6 on Friday night. Chuck Henrichs and Matthew Lopez both tallied 2 scores in the loss for the Crusaders.

Northside 12 Jones-Payton 9

Ted Decker tallied 5 scores and Sacramento Chavez netted 4 scores as Northside upended Jones-Payton 12-9 on Friday in CPS action. Joey Walner and Will Macellanio both scored 3 times in the loss.

 

St Viator 6 DeLaSalle 5

The Lions earned a come-from-behind win over DLS on Friday, as they scored three unanswered goals after heading into the final period trailing 5-3. Shea Boyer provided the game-winner, while Keegan Finn led the Lions' offense with 3 scores. Conor Loy an Pat Gallant also scored once in the Viator victory. In the loss, Robert Rodriguez scored 4 times, Angelo Espinoza added one goal, and Joe Koziol blocked 11 shots.

Tammy Stelnicki recorded 5 goals and Diana Fernandez added 4 scores to lead St Ignatius to a 14-11 win over Mundelein. Allie Booth scored 4 times and Emily Garcia, Lauren Blake, and Karrie Kozokar scored 2 goals in the losing effort for the hosts.

 

Fenwick 16 St Ignatius 11

Colleen Barron registered 5 goals and both Bridget Carey and Janie Angelini put in 3 scores as the Friars knocked off St Ignatius 16-11 on Friday. Catie Wallace also scored 2 goals in the win for Fenwick. Tammy Stelnicki led the Wolfpack with 7 goals and Diana Fernandez notched 2 scores in the loss.

 

Fenwick 13 Mundelein 7

Colleen Barron scored 4 goals and the trio of Alexa Ovalle, Catie Wallace, and Gena Wendt each tallied 2 scores as Fenwick defeated Mundelein 13-7. Emily Garcia scored 3 times and Allie Boothe netted 2 goals in the loss for the Mustangs.

 

 

NAPERVILLE TOURNAMENT

Naperville Central 12 Metea Valley 1

Michelle Spaits scored 4 goals, Krista Drapalik recorded 2 scores, and Faith Vandercar stopped 5 shots as the Redhawks beat Metea Valley 12-1. Kristina Altuve and Nikki Kolbe each made 5 steals in the win for Central.

 

Neuqua Valley 12 Waubonsie Valley 1

Morgan Miller scored 5 goals, Lauren Backe netted 3 scores, and Izzy French blocked 11 shots and let in just one goal in the Wildcats' 12-1 win over Waubonsie Valley.

 

Naperville North 8 Naperville Central 7

The Huskies outlasted their rivals to grab an 8-7 victory on Friday night to end the first day of action at the Naperville Tournament. Kristina Altuve scored 3 goals and Michelle Spaits netted 2 scores in the loss for the Redhawks.

Evanston 9 Maine West 3

The Wildkits opened their season with a 9-3 victory over Maine West in a CSL crossover game. Carly Romano scored 2 goals and Holly Wasicak added one score in the loss for the Warriors.

 

Lyons 15 York 9

Julia Cohen totaled 6 goals and Haley Hughes added 3 scores as Lyons emerged with a 15-9 conference win over York on Friday night. Caroline Walsh and Meredith Land each added 2 goals, while Walsh led the defense with 7 steals. Grace Achepohl and Perri Brinkmeier each scored 4 times and Maddie Kliebon blocked 13 shots in the losing effort.

 

Northside 15 Jones-Payton 8

Marti Hale recorded 8 goals to lead the Mustangs to a 15-8 victory over Payton-Jones. Megan Davis made 11 saves and contributed 4 assists and 6 steals, while Ana Lee Pokrzywa put in 2 scores in the win. In the loss, Rebecca Sudworth tallied 5 scores for the Lady Eagles.
