The Lions will face quite the test to start their season when they go on the road to face Mother McAuley in a Wednesday night showdown. The Mighty Macs will be facing their second Top 10 team of the first week after they squared off with defending champion Fenwick on opening night.

The Vikings have a chance to mark their mark when they head to Wheeling to take on last year's MSL champions in an conference crossover game on Wednesday night.

DLS 6 Brother Rice 5

Roberto Rodriguez scored 3 goals, Omar Gomez tallied 2 scores, and Shane Nagel scored once as the Meteors edged Brother Rice 6-5 in a Catholic League contest. James Ryan led the Crusaders with 2 goals while both Luke Healy and Matt Bachler scored one goal apiece in the loss.

 

OTHER KEY GAMES

Buffalo Grove 16 Hoffman 10

Matt Schulstad totaled 5 goals and both Anthony Sorgani and Liam Boubouleix scored 4 goals to help the Bison beat Hoffman 16-10. Dirgham Nubani led the Hawks with 7 goals in the losing effort.

 

Hersey 11 Schaumburg 4

Jake Hall notched 4 scores and Eric Dieterich added 3 goals as the Huskies knocked off Schaumburg 11-4. James Birriel led the Saxons with 2 goals while both Jack Pyde and Tyler Gustafson scored once in the losing effort.

 

Lincoln-Way Central 20 Bremen 4

Pat Burke recorded 6 goals and the trio of Cody Torres, Matt Klock, and Zach Otto each scored 3 times to help lead the Knights to a 20-4 victory over Bremen. Torres also drew 5 ejections and Jake Burke saved 9 shots in the win.

 

New Trier 16 GBN 9

Alex Grant scored 6 times and Chandler Tempest added 3 scores as the Trevians used a 7-0 run in the third quarter to pull away from GBN to earn a 16-9 victory. John Roberts led the Spartans with 5 goals and Josh Khazanov added 2 scores in the losing effort.

 

Palatine 14 Elk Grove 8

Ryan Schlaiss poured in 8 goals and Marcus Carter-Buckman netted 4 scores in Palatine's 14-8 win over Elk Grove. Alex Adame and Jacob Baran each added one goal, Baran led the defense with 7 steals, and Jake Conrad stopped 11 shots in goal for the Pirates. Adam Doruff and David Drange each recorded 3 goals while Chris Doruff totaled 2 scores and 8 steals in the loss.

 

St Ignatius 18 Mt Carmel 0

Shane Hughes netted 5 goals, Brendan Stelmach added 4 scores, and Sam Enger blocked 5 shots and earned a shutout as the Wolfpack topped Mt Carmel 18-0. Andreas Christy also scored 3 goals and Enger added 3 assists in the winning effort.

 

St Patrick 7 Loyola 6

Anthony Barsano, Dan Walsh, and Joseph Gibson each scored 2 goals to help lift the Shamrocks past the Ramblers 7-6 in Catholic League play. Ragen Murphy tallied 3 scores and Kevin Manna notched 2 goals for the defending champions in the loss.

 

St Rita 18 Lincoln-Way West 15 (OT)

Eric Johnson poured in 10 goals and Matt Lopez added 4 scores as St Rita defeated LWW 18-15 in extra time on Wednesday. Dan Sliazis also scored 2 times and made a key block to help the Mustangs secure the win.

Lyons 10 Mother McAuley 4

Caroline Walsh and Julia Cohen both scored 3 goals as the Lions outscored the Mighty Macs 7-2 in the second half to earn a 10-4 victory. Emma Hirt added 2 goals, Cohen contributed 5 assists, and Walsh drew 5 ejections to help the hosts secure the win.

 

OTHER KEY GAMES

Amundsen 5 Prosser 2

Choryna Lara totaled 3 goals and Selma Karastanovic chipped in with 2 scores as Amundsen fended off Prosser 5-2 in CPS action. Christina Fernandez tallied both goals in the losing effort.

 

Bremen 9 Lincoln-Way East 8

The Red Jaguars jumped out to a 7-2 lead and held off a late rally to earn a season-opening 9-8 win over LWE. Nicole McCabe scored 3 goals and both Keara Flaherty and Zoe Spada netted 2 goals in the loss for the Griffins.

 

Evanston 8 Lane 2

Honore Collins registered 5 goals, Millie Rosen netted 3 scores, and Olivia Everhart allowed just 2 goals and dished out 4 assists in the Wildkits' 8-2 win over Lane. Payton Gibson also added a goal in the win for the hosts.

 

Glenbrook North 7 New Trier 6

Patricia Doolan scored 3 goals and Shari Markovitz blocked 22 shots in her first start as the Spartans beat New Trier 7-6 on Wednesday. Colleen Doolan added 2 scores and both Lindsay Fraser and Patricia Grod tallied one score in the victory.

 

Hinsdale Central 14 Stagg 6

Nina Relias tallied 5 goals and Samara Lilllioja notched 4 scores as the Red Devils defeated Stagg 14-6 on Wednesday. Gracie Dunn blocked 11 shots in the victory for Central.

 

Lake Forest 12 Highland Park 8

Abby Warren registered 6 goals and Grace Donahue chipped in with 3 scores as Lake Forest knocked off Highland Park 12-8 on Wednesday night. Clare Wieland, Madeleine Pompe Van Meerdervoort, and Olivia Warsek each added one goal in the Scouts' victory.

 

Libertyville 19 Deerfield 13

Sara Durning recorded 12 goals and Jessica Lanty netted 4 scores in Libertyville's 19-13 victory over Deerfield. Katherine Rogers scored 9 times in the loss for the Warriors.

 

Morton 11 Riverside-Brookfield 5

Jennifer Acscencion totaled 6 goals to lead the Mustangs to an 11-5 win over R-B.

 

Naperville Central 12 Marian 1

Krista Drapalik registered 3 scores and Faith Vandercar blocked 7 shots and allowed one goal as Central defeated Marian 12-1 on Wednesday.

 

Prospect 18 Barrington 4

Danielle McCallister and Niki Neumann both scored 5 goals and Michelle Vuong notched 3 scores as the Knights earned an 18-4 victory over Barrington. Gracie Dix added 2 goals and Lauren Broz made 8 saves and dished out 4 assists in the Prospect win. Heidi Pallan led the Fillies with 2 goals, Isabella Rojas and Mia Latimer each scored once, and Elizabeth Connors made 5 saves in the loss.

 

Homewood-Flossmoor 6 Richards 2

Amber Barney registered 3 goals. Alexis Anderson scored 2 times, and Rebecca Tanner made 11 saves in the Vikings' 6-2 win over Richards. Brooke Butler added one score and both Emily Mathews and Kelly Morrissey combined to lead the a strong defensive effort that only allowed two goals.

 

Palatine 12 Elk Grove 3

Caroline Wojtas totaled 7 goals and goaltenders Maggie Terzic and Tess O'Brien combined to block 10 shots in Palatine's 12-3 triumph over Elk Grove. Caitlin McHugh added 2 scores while Hannah Jozefat, Kristen Anderson, and O'Brien each added one goal apiece in the Pirates' win. Hannah Sallenback put in all 3 goals in the loss for the Grenadiers.

 

Wheeling 11 Fremd 8

Theresa Godlewski scored 7 goals and Jenna Pink stopped 11 shots to help the Wildcats get past Fremd 11-8 on Wednesday. Argelia Diaz added 3 goals and Paulina Stolarska netted one score in the winning effort. Emma Hoffman led the Vikings' offense with 3 goals, while both Emily Kini and Tami Carlson put in 2 goals apiece. Kayla Helsdingen added one goal and Emma Jeronimus made 7 saves in the loss for the visitors.
