FRIDAY'S GAME RECAPS

BOYS

Morgan Park 18 Lindblom 15

Richard Leigh registered 9 goals and Carl Kirk added 6 scores in Morgan Park's 18-15 victory over Lindblom.

 

St Viator 13 Meadows 6

Gregg O'Connor tallied 4 goals, Justin Imhoff scored 3 times, and both Peter Cleary and Ryan Boyer scored 2 goals as St Viator topped Rolling Meadows 13-6 on Friday night.

 

Hoffman Tournament

Hoffman 17 Prospect 2

Mike Christen scored 5 goals and Adam Pasnicki and Sang W Han each scored 3 goals to lead Hoffman to a tournament-opening 17-2 win over Prospect.

 

Schaumburg 15 Buffalo Grove 12

Randy Carr scored 4 straight goals in the final four minutes to lift Schaumburg past Buffalo Grove 15-12 on Friday night.

 

STC East 11 Hinsdale South 5

Shaun Suescheck scored 4 goals and Sam Schultz added 3 scores as STC East ran out to an 11-0 lead by the end of the third quarter and emerged with an 11-5 victory over Hinsdale South. Gunnar Wagner scored 2 goals in the loss for the Hornets.

 

Vernon Hills 9 Von Steuben 6

Adnan Meskic scored 3 times as Vernon Hills fended off Von Steuben 9-6 to earn their first victory of the season.

 

Palatine Tournament

Palatine 8 Loyola 5

Kamil Mulawa and John Giuliano each scored 3 goals as Palatine beat Loyola 8-5 in the tournament opener on Friday evening. Jordan Hodur tallied 2 scores in the loss for the Ramblers.

 

St. Ignatius 12 McHenry 3

Mark Alvarado recorded 4 goals and Kevin Barth added 3 scores to help St Ignatius knock off McHenry 12-3 in a rematch of last year's state quarterfinal game.

 

H-F 16 Latin 14

Kevin Kuchta and Shay Banton each scored 4 goals as Homewood-Flossmoor outscored Latin 4-2 in the final period to emerge with a 16-14 victory. At the tail end of the third quarter, Kevin Kuchta scored 2 straight goals for the Vikings, giving them a 12-11 lead. Jacob Himmel responded with a goal at the end of the quarter to send the game to the final period tied at 12-12. Banton scored two quick goals in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, followed by goals by Caleb Peterson and Kuchta, and within two minutes the Vikings had a 16-12 lead. Himmel scored two late goals to narrow the gap, but H-F was able to hold on for a narrow victory. Luke Dobben also scored 3 times in the win for the Vikings. Meanwhile, Himmel finished with 7 goals for the Romans, who also got 3 goals from Eddie Wickes and 2 scores from James Ruggiero.

 

Curie 20 Loyola 2

Eduardo Chavez and Sam Lopez both scored 6 goals as Curie cruised to a 20-2 victory over undermanned Loyola on Friday. Ramiro Almarez added 3 scores and Danny Pantoja scored 2 times in the victory for the Condors. Brendan Hulseman and Erik Gooseman each recorded one goal in the loss for the Ramblers.

 

St Ignatius 11 Mundelein 6

St Ignatius raced out to a 5-0 lead in the first half and never looked back as they beat Mundelein 11-6 behind a 5-goal performance from Mark Alvarado.

 

The Wolfpack senior scored two breakaway goals and recovered a loose ball in front of the net to add a third score in the first quarter, while Ignatius' goalie Mike Fratto made two key saves at the end of the first period to keep Mundelein off the scoreboard. In the second period, Angus Tam's outside shot was deflected in to give the Wolfpack a 5-0 lead. The Mustangs were able to respond in the final two minutes of the half, as Nick Mandas scored from outside seven meters and Sean Falconer added a goal from five meters out to cut the lead to 5-2. Mundelein's Will Davidson nearly cut into the three-goal deficit at the end of the half, but his shot clanged off the right post as the buzzer sounded and Ignatius still led 5-2.

 

The teams traded goals in the opening stages of the third period, but the Wolfpack went on a 4-0 run late in the quarter to pull away from the Mustangs. Alvarado scored the first two goals of the run, followed by 6-on-5 goals from Kevin Barth and Paul Bouschlicher. Mundelein's Frank Lukacs (2 goals) ended the run with a goal from inside five meters from the left side, but the Mustangs could only muster up two more goals in the final six minutes before falling 11-6.

 

Latin 15 New Trier 11

In the night's final game, Latin went on a 3-0 run late in the first half to break a 7-7 tie and never relinquished the lead before beating New Trier 15-11. The Trevians cut the lead to 10-9 after Joey Ryan scored on an outside shot and Konrad VonMoltke scored a rebound goal before halftime, but Latin's 4-0 third quarter run ended the Trevians' hopes of a comeback as the Romans held on for the victory. Jacob Himmel and Jordan Spear each scored 4 goals and James Ruggiero tacked on 3 scores in the win for Latin. VonMoltke scored 4 times and Ryan added 2 scores to lead the Trevians in the losing effort.

 

Stagg Tournament

Stagg 22 R-B 6

Drew Stoffel recorded 4 goals to help lift Stagg past R-B by a score of 22-6 in the tournament opener of their own tournament. Ken Castle scored 3 times in the loss for the Bulldogs.

 

STC North 20 St Rita 7

Andrew Preusse totaled 6 goals and 3 assists and Joey Chokran added 5 goals and 3 assists as STC North defeated St Rita 20-7 in the second game of the Stagg Tournament on Friday. Eli Broxham made 7 saves in the win for the Saints.

 

Hinsdale Central 9 Bradley 8

Drake Kenney and Strati Kolouris each registered 3 goals as Hinsdale Central edged out Bradley 9-8. Ryan Zhe led Bradley with 3 scores in the losing effort.

 

Young 17 Morton 5

Ben Kromash scored 4 goals as Young cruised past Morton 17-5 on Friday night.

 

Stagg 15 STC North 7

Zach Golob totaled 5 goals and Drew Stoffel added 4 scores as Stagg used a 7-0 run to pull away from STC North and earn a 15-7 victory, their second win of the tournament. Andrew Preusse recorded 3 goals and 5 steals in the loss.


GIRLS

Hinsdale Central 10 Hoffman 7

Olivia Garrett scored 4 goals to help lift Hinsdale Central past Hoffman 10-7 on Friday. Sarah Pircon also scored 2 goals and Laurel Johnson stopped 15 shots in the victory for the Red Devils. Sharon Sturnfield scored 5 times and Rachael Gallo added 2 goals and 4 assists in the losing cause for the Hawks.

 

Morgan Park 19 Lindblom 18 (OT)

Jelena Bates scored 9 goals and both Gracie and Jenelle Wenner scored 4 goals apiece as Morgan Park erased a three-goal deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime, where they earned a 19-18 win over Lindblom on Friday night.

 

New Trier Tournament

Evanston 11 Glenbrook South 4

Ellis O'Connor scored 6 goals and Yasi Nassiri recorded 2 goals and 6 steals to help lift Evanston to an 11-4 victory over GBS in the first day of action at the New Trier Tournament on Friday. Abby Bailey added a goal and 3 steals in the win, while Madeline Polinski and Sarah Thompson also chipped in with one goal apiece in the Wildkits' triumph.

 

St Viator 12 Glenbrook South 6

Eileen Mallof, Megan Shover, and Melanie Battaglia each scored 3 times to help lift St Viator past GBS 12-6 on Friday night. Maggie Dietrich and Michelle Durkin each scored 2 goals in the loss for the Titans.

 

FRIDAY'S GAME PREVIEWS        

BOYS

MATCH OF THE DAY

Palatine Tournament - The Pirates host a stacked field where all nine teams are ranked in the Top 25. St Ignatius, Latin, Curie, Mundelein, H-F, McHenry, New Trier, Loyola, and the hosts all have their sights set on an early season tournament title.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

Hoffman Tournament - Eight teams are in action on Friday night at the Hoffman Tournament; Buffalo Grove, Hinsdale South, Hoffman, Schaumburg, Prospect, STC East, Vernon Hills, and Von Steuben fill out the field.

Stagg Tournament - The host Chargers play in two of the five games at their own tournament on Friday night; other teams competing include Bradley, Hinsdale Central, Morton, R-B, STC North, St Rita, and Young.


GIRLS

MATCH OF THE DAY

New Trier Tournament - The Trevians' tournament gets underway on Friday night with two games; Glenbrook South takes on both Evanston and St Viator. The hosts, Sandburg, and Wheeling join the field beginning on Saturday morning.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

Young at Latin (5:30pm) - The Dolphins take on the Romans in a rematch of their sectional semifinal game at UIC last May. Young won 7-5 in a defensive battle, so expect more of the same when the teams play in Chicago on Friday evening.
