Dramatic Turnaround Ends With Tournament Title
Loyola won the Palatine
Tournament in thrilling fashion on Saturday with narrow victories over
Latin (6-5) and New Trier (9-8), drastically improving on a last place
finish at the same event in 2011. Meanwhile, the Trevians and Romans
finished the second-place game tied at 8-8; The tiebreaker advantage for
second position went to Latin.

Palatine 1
Jordan Palmer scored 5 goals
and both Jacob Dray and Nate Urban added 4 scores to lead New Trier to a
convincing 20-1 win over Palatine in the tournament opener. Christian
Kalfas notched the lone goal for the Pirates in the loss.
Loyola 17
Mundelein 3
Brendan Hulseman tallied 4
scores Charlie Dowdle, Danny Stauder, Erik Goosman, Jordan Hodur, and
Patrick Demetrio scored 2 times apeice as Loyola cruised to a 17-3 win
over Mundelein. Dan Cross, Luke Speer, and Matt Marcotte each notched a
goal in the loss for the Mustangs.
Latin 13 H-F

James Ruggiero recorded 4
goals and Jacob Himmel added 3 scores in Latin's 13-8 victory over H-F.
The Romans jumped out to a 7-0 first quarter lead en route to the
five-goal win. Nick Thiros scored 3 goals and both Henry Weeks and Zach
Peterson each added 2 goals in the loss for the Vikings.
New Trier 21
St Ignatius 2
Joey Ryan registered 6 scores
and Jordan Palmer added 5 more in the Trevians 21-2 triumph over St
Ignatius. Billy Barth and Joe Imburgia each scored once in the loss for
the Wolfpack.
Loyola 13 Curie

Charlie Dowdle and Danny
Stauder each scored 3 goals and Brendan Hulseman notched 2 scores to help
lift Loyola past Curie 13-8. Eduardo Chavez led the Condors with 3 goals
in the losing effort.
Latin 14 McHenry

James Ruggiero scored 6 times
and Jacob Himmel put in 4 goals to lead the Romans past McHenry 14-6.
Dylan Clohessy scored 3 goals and Lucas Matthys netted 2 scores in the
loss for the Warriors.

Christian Kalfas scored 4
times and both Kristiyan Kalev and Wally Kleinfeldt added 3 scores as
Palatine beat St Ignatius 13-4. Billy Barth and Tom Dowling each scored 2
times in the loss for the Wolfpack.

Eduardo Chavez and Marcos
Hernandez each recorded 5 goals to lead the Condors past Mundelein 19-1.

Jordan Hodur added 2 scores as the Ramblers held off a late rally by New
Trier to emerge with a 9-8 win in the first game of the championship
bracket of the Palatine Tournament. Jordan Palmer led the Trevians with 3
scores.

Eduardo Chavez poured in 7
goals to lead Curie past Palatine 14-5 in the opening game of the fourth
place bracket. Kristiyan Kalev led the Pirates with 2 goals in the losing
effort.
Mundelein 9 St Ignatius 8
Jason Rehor recorded 4 goals
and Matt Marcotte added 3 scores to help the Wolfpack win for the first
time in three tries at the Palatine Tournamntafter edging St Ignatius 9-8
on Saturday. Jason Rehor recorded 4 goals and Matt Marcotte added 3 goals
for the Mustangs.

Charlie Dowdle scored 3 goals
and Brendan Hulseman added 2 scores as Loyola overcame a 5-3 deficit
heading into the fourth quarter with a 3-0 run that earned them a 6-5 win
and the tournament title. James Ruggiero led the Romans with 2 goals in
the close loss.
Curie 12
McHenry 4
Ramiro Almarez poured in 6
goals to lead the Condors to a 12-4 victory over McHenry, a win that gave
the state's seventh-ranked team a fourth place finish at the event. Robby
Schwertdfeger tallied 2 scores in the loss for the Warriors.
Homewood-Flossmoor 17
Mundelein 1
Zach Peterson scored 8 times,
Kevin Kuchta added 5 scores, and Henry Weeks notched 3 goals in H-F's big
17-1 victory over Mundelein. Jason Rehor scored the solo goal for the
Mustangs.
New Trier 8 Latin 8
In the battle for second
place, New Trier raced out to a 7-4 halftime lead, only to see the Romans
mount a second half comeback that saw the teams finish in an 8-8 deadlock
at the end of regulation. With the same overall record, Latin claimed the
tiebreaker and an official second place finish. Eddie Wickes and Jacob
Himmel both notched 3 scores for the Romans, while Jordan Palmer led the
Trevians with 3 goals.
McHenry 11 Palatine 9
Dylan Clohessy recorded 5
goals and Lucas Matthys added 3 scores to give McHenry an 11-9 win over
Palatine and a fifth place finish at the tournament. Wally Kleinfeldt
scored 4 times and Christian Kalfas added 2 scores for the Pirates.
Homewood-Flossmoor 19 St

Zach Peterson scored 7 goals
and Kevin Kuchta poured in 6 goals as H-F earned a dominant 19-2 victory
over St Ignatius in the night's last game. Billy Barth and Tom Dowling
each scored once in the Wolfpack's fourth loss of the weekend.
