TOURNAMENT RECAP (March 9)
Oak Park Emerges With
Northside Tournament Title
The Huskies rattled off convincing wins over Hinsdale South and
Northside early in the day and then held off both Marian and York to finish the
day with a 4-0 mark to win the Northside Tournament. Katie Appell led the
offense for OPRF with 18 goals, while a balanced defense helped limit opponents
to a grand total of 11 goals in four games. Carly Redmond scored 8 goals to help
lift York to a 3-1 mark and a second place finish, while Paige Weiser led all
scorers with 25 tallies in Marian's third-place effort. The hosts put a claim on
fourth place by beating Hinsdale South in the day's final game.
Saturday's Game Recaps
Oak Park 10 Northside 1
Katie Appell recorded 7 goals and Samantha Robbins punched in 2 scores in
Oak Park's 10-1 victory over Northside. Rebecca Chan scored the lone goal
for the Mustangs.
York 9 Marian 7
Carly Redmond netted 3 goals and Grace Achepohl and Lauren Tamm both
registered 2 scores as York fended off Marian 9-7. Paige Weiser scored 6
goals in the loss for the Spartans.
Oak Park 17 Hinsdale South 3
Katie Appell registered 5 goals, Maddie Wolfe notched 3 scores, and Anna
Vogel chipped in with 2 goals in Oak Park's 17-3 victory over Hinsdale
South.
York 8 Northside 1
Carly Redmond and Jess Sacksteder each tallied 2 scores in the Dukes' 8-1
triumph over Northside.
Marian 15 Hinsdale South 5
Paige Weiser poured in 8 goals and both Grace Van Beest and Killian
McDonald added 2 scores as Marian knocked off Hinsdale South 15-5.
Oak Park 5 York 2
Katie Appell scored 2 times as Oak Park jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead
and held on to beat York 5-2 to win the virtual title game of the
tournament on Saturday afternoon. Jess Kellerstrass and Jess Sacksteder
both scored once in the loss for the Dukes.
Marian 12 Northside 9
Paige Weiser recorded 8 goals as Marian used a second and third period
showing to pull away from the hosts and earn a 12-9 victory. Diana Roback,
Jane Patzke, Meghan Quigley, and Tammy Saowapak all scored 2 times in the
loss for the Mustangs.
York 12 Hinsdale South 2
Jess Kellerstrass and
Perri Brinkmeier both tallied 3 scores and Carly Redmond put away 2 goals as
York cruised to a 12-2 victory over Hinsdale South.
Oak Park 8 Marian 5
Katie Appell scored 4 goals and Elizabeth Williams added 2 scores as Oak
Park faced a tough challenge from Marian in their final game of the
tournament but still pulled out an 8-5 win. Paige Weiser recorded 3 goals
in the loss for the Spartans.
Northside 13 Hinsdale South 2
Meghan Quigley registered 7 goals and Jane Patzke added 3 scores as
Northside closed out their own event with a 13-2 win over Hinsdale South.
Jessica Skipper also tacked on 2 goals in the win for the Mustangs.
Tiffany Habble notched 2 scores in the loss for the Hornets.
