GAME RECAPS (Thursday, March 8)

BOYS

Fremd 14 Hersey 5

Andre Degla registered 5 goals and Dan Knudsen added 2 scores to help lead Fremd to a 14-5 win over Hersey on Thursday evening. Max Plichta made 7 saves in the win for the Vikings.

 

Glenbrook South 12 Niles West 8

JJ Connor scored 6 times, Bob Meyer added 4 goals, and Tom Meyer blocked 12 shots to help GBS fend off Niles West 12-8 in CSL action on Thursday. Ryan Miller and Steven Renko combined to score 5 goals in the loss for the Wolves.

 

Hoffman 20 Prospect 10

Sang Han scored 6 goals, Adam Pasnicki registered 5 scores, and Mike Desider added 4 scores to lead Hoffman to a 20-10 victory over Prospect in a MSL crossover contest. Steven Jatich added 3 scores in the Hawks' win.

 

Palatine 18 Meadows 6

Christian Kalfas poured in 6 goals and Wally Kleinfeldt scored 3 times to help lead Palatine past Meadows 18-6 on Thursday night. Kevin Fitzsimons and Patrick Waterloo both scored 2 times in the loss for the Mustangs.

 

Wheeling 10 Schaumburg 9

Austin Ihde recorded 7 goals and Ethan Rosengarden added 2 scores in Wheeling's 10-9 victory over Schaumburg. Dan Shriber added a goal and Noah Ihde stopped 16 shots in the Wildcats' narrow win.

 

York 8 R-B 2

Patrick McKenna scored 4 times and Alex Waldherr added 2 scores in York's 8-2 nonconference win over R-B on Thursday.

 

GIRLS

Barrington 8 Buffalo Grove 5

Catherine Byron and Sam Gavars each tallied 3 scores and Brooke Fanslow made 9 saves to lead the Fillies to an 8-5 win over Buffalo Grove. Julie Pater and Sarah Fasching each scored 2 times and Callie Fasching made 8 saves in the loss for the Bison.

 

Bremen 9 Homewood-Flossmoor 7

The Red Jaguars pulled out to a 9-5 halftime lead and limited the Vikings to just two second half goals en route to a 9-7 nonconference win on Thursday. Hannah Schultz scored 3 times and Vasi Vasilopoulos stopped 12 shots, while Emma Martinus and Lauren Stryzek each added a pair of goals in the Bremen victory. H-F did hold the Red Jaguars scoreless in the second half, but their rally came up just short. Rebecca Mathews scored 4 times in the loss for the Vikings.

 

Conant 10 Elk Grove 8

Jessica Southern scored 4 goals, Kristi Burke pitched in with 3 scores, and Andie Cobb scored 2 times as Conant edged Elk Grove 10-8. Kathryn Noonan led the Grenadiers with 4 goals in the losing effort.

 

Evanston 12 Deer Park 4

Aliya Abdelhak scored 5 times and Rosselyn Lopez chipped in with 3 scores as Evanston knocked off Deer Park 12-4 on Thursday. Yasi Nassiri added 2 goals and both Karissa McBride and Natasha Chastang each scored once in the Wildkits' win.

 

Fremd 8 Hersey 3

Sam Matuszewski recorded 4 goals and Julie Conrath made 14 saves in Fremd's 8-3 win over Hersey. Breanna Anderson, Emily McCarthy, Sam del Prado, and Taylor Spoonholtz each added one goal in the Vikings' win.

 

Marian 14 Saint Viator 12

Paige Weiser and Tori Fuentes each scored 4 goals as Marian bounced back from an early 4-0 deficit to earn a 14-12 victory over Saint Viator in Catholic League play on Thursday. Grace Van Beest recorded 2 goals and 5 assists in the Spartans' win. Eileen Mallof led the Lions with 4 goals in the losing cause.

 

New Trier 15 Maine East 1

Isabella Baneaux and Alexana Astor combined to record 7 goals to help lead New Trier to a convincing 15-1 win over Maine East in a midweek CSL contest. Erika Nothnagel, Meghan Frank, and Samantha Padavic each added 2 scores in the Trevians' win. NT goalie Hannah Caywood also made 7 saves and allowed just one goal in the victory.

 

Schaumburg 10 Wheeling 5

The Saxons earned their first win of the season as Rachel Fish scored 4 goals, Haven Aldridge notched 3 scores, and Ashley Johnson scored 2 times in a 10-5 win over Wheeling. Rebecca Brow added the other goal in the win for Schaumburg.

BOYS

MATCH OF THE DAY

#20 Waubonsie Valley at #12 Oak Park

The Warriors begin their 2012 campaign with a tough away fixture against Oak Park; the Huskies look to bounce back after a 15-5 loss to #2 Lyons on Tuesday night.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

Wheeling at #21 Schaumburg

The Saxons look to pick up where they left off in 2011 when they take on the visiting Wildcats, who started their season in fine fashion with a 10-3 win over Maine East on Wednesday night.

 

GIRLS

MATCH OF THE DAY

#14 Bremen at #4 Homewood-Flossmoor

Two teams seeking a state berth in 2012 meet in a big nonconference clash after both won their season openers earlier in the week.

 

KEEP AN EYE ON:

#18 Schaumburg at #22 Wheeling

The Saxons look to avoid their third straight loss when they travel to Wheeling to take on the Leah Malsom-led Wildcats in an MSL crossover game. Wheeling started the season with a 16-5 win over GBN and will be looking for their second win of the young season on Thursday night.
