The Starting VII
Week 5
By Aaron Brown
Seven things to look for in the fifth week of the season:
I. Mother McAuley at Sandburg (Girls)
#7 Sandburg hosts #5 Mother McAuley on Tuesday in a
battle of Top 10 teams.
II. Glenbrook South at Stevenson (Boys)
#8 Glenbrook South returns to action in Week 5 with a
Tuesday afternoon trip to #20 Stevenson; the Patriots are looking for some
momentum heading into the second half of the season.
III. St Ignatius at Fenwick (Girls)
#2 St Ignatius will get another shot at #1 Fenwick after the
Friars won their tournament with a 10-2 win over the Wolfpack last Saturday.
This one will count for the regular season conference championship in the
MCAC, as both teams enter the game undefeated in the Catholic League.
IV. St Patrick at Brother Rice (Boys)
A classic old-school matchup in the Catholic League
between #18 St Patrick and #6 Brother Rice on
Wednesday...the teams did not meet at the Shamrocks' Tournament over the
weekend, but the Crusaders won their matchup at the Fenwick Tournament 14-9.
V. H-F vs LWE; LWC at H-F (Girls)
These Wednesday and Thursday games will go a long way in
determining who finishes at or near the top of the SWSC. All three teams,
along with Sandburg, sit atop the conference with a lot to determine,
starting this week.
VI. Fenwick at Lyons (Girls)
#3 Lyons' only loss this season came at the hands of #2 St
Ignatius; they will look to challenge undefeated and top-ranked Fenwick at home on Thursday
night.
VII. Stevenson Tournament (Girls)
The #8 Patriots host a Saturday-only quad filled with
in-form teams #14 Fremd, #28 Latin, and #12 Young.
The First Sub
Latin at St Ignatius (Boys)
#26 Latin faces a tough challenge in their third game of the
season on Monday night at #9 St Ignatius (UIC). Both teams could meet later
this year at sectionals.
