FEATURE
The Starting VII
Week 4
By Aaron Brown
Seven things to look for in the fourth week of the season:
I. Fenwick Tournament (Girls)
The girls' tournament at Fenwick gets started on Thursday
night, with a strong field vying for the title. Check out the bracket that
includes #5 Lyons, #6 Loyola, and #7 Stevenson all going head-to-head...in
the opening round! #1 Fenwick, #2 St Ignatius, #3 McAuley, #9 New Trier, #10
H-F, #13 Mundelein, #15 Evanston, and #30 Neuqua are also featured at the
tournament, while Boone High School from Orlanda, Florida brings a 14-1-1
record to play in the tournament as well.
II. St Patrick Tournament (Boys)
Several teams from this past weekend's Fenwick Tourney
will face off again at St Patrick's annual competition. The hosts welcome
rival Brother Rice, upstart Lincoln-Way East (coming off a third place
finish at Fenwick), Loyola, Waubonsie, H-F, Young, Evanston, and
Libertyville.
III. LWE Tournament (Girls)
The Lincoln-Way East Tournament features all three
Lincoln-Way teams, plus Andrew, Richards, and R-B. All six teams are either
in or near the Top 25, which should make for a highly competitive tournament
in Frankfort.
IV. McAuley at Lyons (Girls)
Lyons comes into Wednesday's game with an 8-0 record and
looking to prove they are a contender for the state title against last
year's second place finisher. McAuley comes in with a 4-2 record and
momentum after beating Loyola last week.
V. St Ignatius at Loyola (Boys)
The Wolfpack and the Ramblers will be fighting for fourth
place in the Catholic League on Wednesday night.
VI. Loyola at St Ignatius (Girls)
St Ignatius will put their undefeated record to the test
as the Catholic League rivals do battle at UIC on Wednesday night.
VII. Barrington at Schaumburg (Boys)
The Mid-Suburban League showdown between the 13-1 Saxons
and the 9-2 Broncos will go a long way towards determining a conference
champion in the West division.
The First Sub
Young at Mather (Boys)
Two of the top teams in the Chicago Public League battle
for supremacy in the conference on Wednesday evening.
