SECTIONAL SCHEDULE/RESULTS

Tuesday, May 13

Play-In Games

(8) Hoffman 17 (9) Elk Grove 14 (OT)

Hoffman outlasted Elk Grove 17-14 in overtime on Tuesday to earn their first win of the 2014 season and advance to the quarterfinal round of the Palatine Sectional. Jessica Sullivan scored 5 goals, including 3 key goals in the extra session, helping the Hawks outscore the Grenadiers 4-1 in overtime. Morales Diaz notched 4 scores and both Megan Bonney and Zoe Dorband each tallied 3 goals in the win for Hoffman. Allie Ouimet and Sydney Elkins also scored once in the winning effort, while goalie Nicole Kasman made 5 blocks on the defensive end. Dominika Struk poured in 10 goals in the loss for the Grenadiers.

 

Thursday, May 15

Quarterfinals

(3) Fremd 16 (6) St Viator 3

Nicole Degla, Samantha Barry, and Samantha DiCanio each recorded 3 goals to help send Fremd past St Viator 16-3 in the sectional quarterfinal round. Laura Foss, Megan Drake, and Susie Lambesis each put in one score in the loss for the Lions.

 

(1) Conant 13 (8) Hoffman 2

Carmen Rosas poured in 6 goals and Emily Weingart netted 3 goals as the Cougars earned a 13-2 victory over Hoffman. Maddy Demaret made 7 saves and Rosas totaled 4 steals in Conant's win. Allie Ouimet and Jessica Sullivan both scored once in the loss for the Hawks.

 

(4) Barrington 8 (5) Schaumburg 7

Sam Gavars notched 4 scores and both Maddi Burrell and Mia Latimer scored 2 goals as Barrington held off Schamburg's late rally to earn an 8-7 victory. Delaney Houts and Krystal Vezzetti each scored 2 goals in the loss for the Saxons.

 

(2) Palatine 13 (7) Meadows 2

Rachel Chumbook notched 7 scores and Caroline Wojtas scored 4 times to help Palatine beat Meadows 13-2. Caitlin McHugh and Jackie Kincanon each added one score and Kim Butler made 8 saves in the Pirates' win. Erin Pletch and Maggie Feikes each tallied one goal in the loss for the Mustangs.

 

Friday, May 16

Semifinals

(1) Conant 14 (4) Barrington 3

Angie Skittone tallied 6 scores and Carmen Rosas netted 4 goals as Conant knocked off Barrington 14-3. Emily Weingart added 2 goals and both Miranda Fenlon and Sam Wooley scored once in the win. Maddy Demaret stopped 8 shots and Rosas led the defense with 8 steals. Emma Hoffman scored 2 times and Isabelle Rojas added one goal in the Broncos' loss.

 

(2) Palatine 10 (3) Fremd 9 (2 OT)

Kristen Anderson scored the game-winning goal in sudden death overtime as Palatine survived a scare from Fremd with a 10-9 victory on Friday night. Palatine led 7-4 at halftime, but the Fremd defense held the Pirates scoreless for most of the second half and claimed their first lead to polish off a 4-0 run late in the game. Samantha Barry gave the Vikings a 9-8 lead in the first overtime, but Rachel Chumbook put in the equalizer before the second extra session. Neither team could muster up a goal in the second OT period, so it was left to the sophomore Anderson to provide the heroics.

 

Caroline Wojtas scored 5 goals, Chumbook scored 4 times, and Anderson scored the key goal at the end of the game. Kim Butler also saved 17 shots including a key block in the second overtime period. Barry and Samantha DiCanio each scored 3 goals while Emma Hoffman, Megan Younker, and Nicole Degla each scored once in the loss.

Saturday, May 17

Finals

(2) Palatine 9 (1) Conant 6

Rachel Chumbook scored the eventual game-winning goal late in the fourth quarter before the Pirates put in 2 more goals in the final minute as Palatine earned their first trip to the state tournament after beating Conant 9-6. Chumbook totaled 4 scores, Caitlin McHugh and Caroline Wojtas each scored 2 times, and Kim Butler made 13 saves in the Pirates' victory. Callie Gilsenan added one score in the winning effort. Kaitlyn Claffey netted 3 goals while Angie Skittone, Carmen Rosas, and Miranda Fenlon each scored once in the loss for the Cougars. Maddy Demaret also made 13 saves to lead the Cougars' defense.
