Play-In Games
(8) Elk Grove 12 (9) Meadows 11
(7) Schaumburg 18 (10) Hoffman 7
Tyler Gustafson totaled 7 goals and both Austin Borst and James Birriel
notched 4 scores as the Saxons knocked off Hoffman 18-7 on Monday. Dan
Skiroock also scored 3 times, Robert Bach made 12 saves, and Borst totaled 6
steals and drew 4 ejections in the win. Joey Smiley scored 4 goals in the
loss for the Hawks.
Wednesday, May 14
Quarterfinals
(1) Palatine 26 (8) Elk Grove 4
Kristian Kalev recorded 8 goals and Wally Kleinfeldt notched 7 scores to
lead Palatine to a 26-4 win over Elk Grove. Omar El Hoffi and Mike
Yurcheshin each added 3 goals in the winning effort. Ryan Mockus and Ryan
Schlaiss also scored 2 times for the Pirates. Adam Doruff tallied 3 scores in the losing effort for the Grenadiers.
(5) Conant 12 (4) St Viator 9
Connor Schmitz and Cody Yelsar each scored 3 goals to lead the Cougars over
St Viator 12-9. Braden Lamare, Kazuki Morita and Jim Estep both added 2
goals in the winning effort. Eric Sutton registered 3 goals while Keegan
Finn, Shea Boyer, and Tommy Madaras each put in 2 goals in the loss for the
Lions.
(2) Hersey 15 (7) Schaumburg 14
Jack Carroll scored 5 goals and both George Vladimirov and Michael Buffa
notched 4 scores as Hersey staved off a late rally from Schaumburg with
a strong defensive finish to beat the Saxons 15-14. Connor Reynolds and
Jake Hall each tallied one score in the win for the Huskies. Jack Pyde
totaled 4 goals, James Birriel netted 3 scores, and the trio of Dan
Skiroock, Michael Walsh and Tyler Gustafson each recorded 2 goals in the
loss for Schaumburg. Austin Borst also scored once in the losing effort.
(3) Prospect 17 (6) Fremd 7
Dylan Assman registered 9 goals and Luke Stark tallied 3 scores as the
Vikings upset Prospect 17-7 in the sectional quarterfinals at Palatine.
Connor Helsdingen and Zach Starkey also netted 2 goals in the win for Fremd.
Friday, May 16
Semifinals
(1) Palatine 16 (5) Conant 10
Kristian Kalev poured in 10 goals and the Pirates used a 6-2 run in the
final period to pull away from a tough Conant defense to earn a 16-10
victory on Friday. Ryan Schlaiss added 3 goals and trio of Omar El Hoffi,
Jacob Baran, and Wally Kleinfeldt each scored once in the winning effort.
Baran also had a strong showing on the defensive end as he held the Cougars
scoreless from set throughout the game. Mihir Patel tallied 4 scores and
both Braden LaMore and Cody Yeiser scored 2 times in the loss for Conant.
(6) Fremd 14 (2) Hersey 11
Dylan Assmann and Luke Stark each recorded 5 goals as the Vikings got out to
an early 2-0 lead and held off a late charge by the Huskies to secure a
14-11 upset win and a date with rival Palatine in the sectional finals.
Connor Helsdingen and Zach Starkey both tallied 2 scores in the win as well
for Fremd. Jack Carroll put in 5 goals and Michael Buffa added 3 scores in
the loss for the Huskies. Connor Reynolds also scored 2 times and George
Vladimirov put in one score for Hersey.
