SECTIONAL FINALS

Saturday, May 11

Finals

(1) Homewood-Flossmoor 9 (3) Lockport 8

Jakobi McClellan made a crucial save at the buzzer in the second overtime period to deny Lockport and give the Vikings a 9-8 win on Saturday. H-F turned the ball with just a few seconds left and a one goal lead but Dan Oldendorf had enough time for one last-gasp attempt, which McClellan got his hands on to save the day. The Vikings trailed 6-4 in the fourth quarter before Kevin Kuchta scored two straight goals to tie the score with just over two minutes remaining. Broc Thompson would give the Vikings the lead moments later, but Jake Elias sent the game to overtime with a late goal for the Porters. Kuchta scored once in each overtime period to give H-F a two goal lead, but Oldendorf cut the advantage to one with one minute left in the second overtime period to setup the thrilling final moments.

Kuchta totaled 7 goals, while Mike Mitchell and Broc Thompson each chipped in with one goal. McClellan totaled 18 saves and the Vikings' defense amassed 24 steals in the win. Dan Oldendorf, Jake Elias, and Jake Knowles each scored 2 times and John Goetz saved 10 shots in the loss.
