Play-In Games
(8) Lincoln-Way Central 14 (9) Lincoln-Way
West 10
Tristan Funk recorded 4 goals, both Alex McCormick and Ryan Sterling tallied
3 scores, and Kyle Forsythe put in 2 scores as the Knights beat LWW 14-10 in
the preliminary round of the LWN Sectional. Central will take on top-seeded
H-F in Thursday's quarterfinal round. Kurt Butterfield totaled 6 goals to
surpass the 100-goal mark in 2013 as the Warriors' upset bid came up short.
Thursday, May 9
Quarterfinals
(1) Homewood-Flossmoor 14 (8) Lincoln-Way Central 2
Kevin Kuchta recorded 7 goals and
both Mason Reidel and Mike Mitchell put in 2 scores in the Vikings'
14-2 win over LWC. Jakobi McClellan also stopped 12 shots in the win for
H-F. Alex McCormick and Tristan Funk each scored once in the loss for the
Knights.
(4) Bradley 9 (5) Bremen 5
Joseph Page netted 4 goals, Paul Weber
totaled 3 scores and 5 assists, and Mark Hoffman saved 16 shots in Bradley's
9-5 win over Bremen. Gabe Stein-Rojas and Quinn Johnson both scored 2 goals
in the loss for the Red Jaguars.
(2) Lincoln-Way North 7 (7) Andrew 3
Curtin Thrun scored 3 goals, Pat
Budney netted 2 scores, and Shamus Shields blocked 17 shots to help the
Phoenix get past Andrew 7-3. Eric Tamulonis, Mike Tamulonis, and Nick
Brancato all scored one goal apiece in the loss for the T-Bolts.
(3) Lockport 16 (6) Lincoln-Way East 9
Jake Elias notched 6 scores, Dan Oldendorf scored 4 times, and David Presz
registered 3 goals to help the Porters beat LWE 16-9. John Goetz made 17
saves in the Lockport win. Al Newell scored 4 times and both Nate Drewes and
Sean Romberg scored 2 goals in the loss for the Griffins.
Friday, May 10
Semifinals
(1) Homewood-Flossmoor 16 (4) Bradley 9
Kevin Kuchta netted 7
goals and both Broc Thompson and Mike Mitchell scored 3 times to help the
Vikings get past Bradley 16-9. Jakobi McClellan also made 16 saves in the
H-F win. Paul Weber totaled 3 scores while Joseph Page and Nick Dalzell each
tallied 2 scores in the loss for the Boilers.
(3) Lockport 9 (2) Lincoln-Way North 7
The Porters avenged their regular
season loss to LWN by beating the Phoenix 9-7 when it mattered most,
advancing to the sectional finals for a chance to defend their title
against H-F on Saturday. John Goetz saved 22 shots and scored a goal, plus
Dan Oldendorf, Jake Elias, Jake Knowles, and Jake Speechley each scored 2
times in the Lockport win.
