Play-In Games
(8) Glenbrook North 17 (9) Maine West 13
The Spartans continued their late-season momentum by outlasting Maine West
17-13 on Tuesday night. Next up for the sectional hosts is top-seed New
Trier at 4:30pm on Thursday.
(7) Maine East 11 (10) Highland Park 4
The Blue Demons earned a convincing 11-4 victory over Highland Park, setting
up a matchup with Loyola in the 2 vs 7 matchup on Thursday night.
Thursday, May 9
Quarterfinals
(1) New Trier 22 (8) Glenbrook North 3
Alex Grant scored 5 times,
Jordan Palmer recorded 4 goals in the opening quarter, and the trio of
Maros Petro, John Schulz, and Michael Kruger tallied 2 scores each as New
Trier defeated GBN 22-3.
Ross Hoestler scored 2 goals and Stephan Johnson chipped in with one
score in the loss for the Spartans.
(5) Maine South 8 (4) Niles West 7
Matt Kramer registered 3 scores and
Brian Touhy put in 2 goals as the Hawks held off Niles West 8-7 to advance
to the sectional semifinals on Thursday evening. Max Romanelli totaled 4
goals in the loss for the Wolves.
(2) Loyola 8 (7) Maine East 4
Jack Considine slammed home 3 goals
and both Ben Pasquesi and Cameron Shewchuck netted 2 scores in Loyola's 8-4
win over Maine East. Mike Babula led the Blue Demons with 3 goals, including
the game's only goal in the first period as the underdogs led 1-0 after one
quarter of play.
(6) Evanston 13 Glenbrook South 11
Sergi López Maymó scored 4 goals and both Matt Comfort and Zack McKornick
registered 2 scores as the Wildkits pulled off the upset of the tournament
thus far by beating GBS 13-11 on Thursday. Bob Meyer and Matt Durkin each
scored 4 times in the loss for the Titans.
Friday, May 10
Semifinals
(1) New Trier 17 (5) Maine South 6
Jordan Palmer
registered 4 scores while both Dano Johnson and John Schulz scored 3 times
to help the Trevians beat Maine South 17-6. New Trier outscored the Hawks
12-3 in the second half after leading 5-3 at halftime. Jason Bartha and Reid
McCulloch each added 2 goals and Alex Grant, Maros Petro, and Matt Weiser
each added one score in the winning effort. Makai DeNeve-Arnam scored 2
goals in the loss for South.
(2) Loyola 18 (6) Evanston 6
Cameron Shewchuck notched 5 scores and
both Ben Pasquesi and Jack Nickele tallied 4 scores as Loyola defeated
Evanston 18-6. Kameron Simmons-Gill and Sergi López Maymó both registered
2 goals in the losing effort for the Wildkits.
