2005 SEASON |
Water Polo Athletes Recognized For Academic/Athletic Achievements March 26, 2005
Dan Li of Naperville Central was named to the IHSA's All-Academic Team earlier this month for his achievements both in and out of the pool. Li is a starting driver for fourth-ranked Naperville Central and was also a state-qualifying swimmer for the past three years. In the 2005-2005 season, he placed fifth in the 50 Freestyle, anchored the state champion 200 Medley Relay and swam on two other Top 6 finishing relays.
Two other Illinois water polo athletes earned Honorable Mention for the All-Academic Team. That status was given to St Viator senior Megan Barry and Barrington senior Mallory Meyer. Both players currently start for their respective water polo teams.
Twenty-six outstanding young people attending Illinois High School Association member schools were named recently to the All-State Academic Team. The 26 members and their guests will be honored the evening of Monday, April 25, 2005, at the IHSA All-State Academic Team Recognition Banquet.
To be eligible for consideration for selection to the team, a student at an IHSA member school must have a minimum Grade Point Average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale after the seventh semester. Nominees must have participated in at least two IHSA-sponsored activities during the last two school years, and must have demonstrated outstanding citizenship during his/her high school career. Each IHSA member school could nominate one male and one female student. |
