Lyons Sectional Preview
The same teams from last
year's Sandburg sectional have shifted to Lyons Township for their games,
but the rest of the sectional remains the same as Brother Rice is favored to
get to the state meet. Experienced players like Nick Velasquez and Mark
DiCola lead the Crusaders, while Joe Frantz has been excellent in goal all
season long.

They will be challenged by either Lyons or Sandburg if each team can survive their first round games. Lyons went undefeated until the final day of the season, losing to Oak Park 12-9 in the West Suburban Conference final, but the Lions will be looking to bounce back behind hole set Mark Lakis and goalie Derrick Brace.

Sandburg is always a tough draw, and John Kryzminski and Jon Christensen will hope to lead Jim Caliendo's bunch into a Saturday showdown with the Crusaders.

Rice will have to deal with both Ed Bachler and Ed Gronkowski of St Rita or Matt Alvarado and Marty Walsh of Mt Carmel in the second round. The two Catholic League rivals play the sectional opener on Thursday night.

Morgan Park should never be counted out, as Jon'nathan Weatherford and his team will look to give Sandburg all they can handle in the opening round.
