Illpolo.com Hall of Fame
Water polo has been an officially sanctioned IHSA sport
in Illinois since 2002. As such, we decided to put a more modern twist on
recognizing athletes, coaches, and others with our own version of a Hall
of Fame.
Illpolo.com began covering the sport in 2003, but did
not provide full coverage until the 2004 season. Thus, our initial Hall of
Fame induction begins with the 2004 season and covers the sport for the
following ten years, concluding with the 2013 season. The inaugural
induction announcement was posted online on February 24, 2014.
PLAYER SELECTION: Players were categorized by their
final high school season. An initial ballot of candidates was whittled
down to ten players per season, using postseason awards, plus individual
and team performances over the course of each player's career. The induction of
seven players per season on average was
the target, a number which varied depending on the number of seniors that
graduated at the end of each season.
FUTURE SELECTIONS: Approximately seven players will be
inducted per gender from the previous year at the start of each season. In
addition, there may be 2-4 "veteran" players
inducted each year from a pool of candidates ranging from 2004 to the most
recently finished season.
