MARCH 14
#1 St Ignatius vs #2
Fenwick
The opening week of the season culminates with a matchup between the
top two teams in the state at a neutral site in Mundelein. Which team will gain
the upper-hand in the first of many meetings between the Friars and
Wolfpack?
MARCH 17
#1 St Ignatius at #4
Mother McAuley
The defending champions
continue their tough early season slate as they travel to McAuley to take
on their Catholic League rivals, who they edged in last May's semifinal
round by one goal. The Mighty Macs can never be underestimated, as they
knocked off the Wolfpack to win last year's MCAC Tournament and would love
to gain the early momentum in the season series with their familiar foes.
MARCH 18
#6 Loyola at #5
Stevenson
The Patriots play host to the Ramblers on March 18 in a
nonconference affair between two teams with their sights set on
getting to play in the same pool two months later at the state
tournament. This fixture could also be an early indicator of whether
or not the two squads could make a serious run at a state title in 2014.
MARCH 19
#2 Fenwick at #4 Mother McAuley
The Mighty Macs continue their difficult week with a conference game
against Fenwick just two days after taking on top-ranked St
Ignatius. Can McAuley get the better of the Friars like they did in
last year's sectional quarterfinal thriller or will Fenwick
gain a bit of revenge in their quest to win the Catholic League and
a state title in 2014?
MARCH 19 & APRIL 16
#15 Fremd vs #17 Palatine
The rivalry games between the Vikings and Pirates could take on
additional meaning in 2014 as both teams have their sights on
overtaking Barrington for the MSL crown.
APRIL 7
#1 St Ignatius at #2 Fenwick
By the time April 7 rolls around, the regular season battle between
Ignatius and Fenwick could determine the Catholic League's regular
season champion.
APRIL 8
#3 Mundelein at #5 Stevenson
The regular season battle between Mundelein and Stevenson in early
April could help decide the North Suburban Conference title while
also serving as a potential sectional final preview.
APRIL 10
#7 Naperville North
at #10 Naperville Central
The Huskies start the season as the early favorite amongst the
Naperville teams, but they will have a battle on their hands
as they try to overtake Naperville Central for a state tournament
berth. The winner of the regular season contest between the two
teams at Central on April 10 could also lay claim to the top seed in
the Naperville-area sectional when the postseason arrives.
APRIL 15
#6 Loyola at #8 New
Trier
The Ramblers hope to continue their momentum against the Trevians
after winning a 5-4 sectional final thriller last May. The regular
season battle between the two squads on April 15 will likely
determine the top seed in the Glenbrook Sectional and should give the winner plenty of momentum and confidence if the
two teams eventually meet again with a state berth on the line in May.
APRIL 15
#9 Lincoln-Way Central at #12 Sandburg
The Knights and Eagles finished the SWSC season with identical
12-1 records in 2013; while the two teams will play in different
divisions this year, this game should still serve as a late-season
showcase as to which team has the best shot at a state tournament
berth.
APRIL 28
#11 Lyons at #13 Oak Park
The key matchup between the Lions and Huskies could help decide the
regular season champion of the West Suburban Conference when the two
meet on April 28 at OPRF.
