MARCH 11
#2 McAuley at #3 Ignatius
#5 Loyola at #1 Fenwick
The Catholic League wastes no time in matching up the top teams for
head-to-head play, as the Mighty Macs and Wolfpack play their grudge
match at UIC while the up-and-coming Ramblers travel to Fenwick to
play the defending champs just one week into the competition season.
MARCH 12
#17 Maine South at #19 Maine East
The Blue Demons finished second in the Central Suburban League last
year after beating the Hawks during the regular season, but South
got their revenge with wins over East in the conference tournament
and in the sectional quarterfinals at Glenbrook South last May. This
early-season contest could be vital for postseason seeding at both
the conference and sectional levels.
MARCH 12
#23 Oak Park at #9 Lyons
The Huskies will try to put an exclamation point on their rebuilding
process when they look to upset Lyons in West Suburban Conference
play in LaGrange during Week 2.
MARCH 18
#1 Fenwick at #2 McAuley
The top two teams face off on a Monday night showdown in Chicago;
the Friars narrowly won last year's contest 10-8 en route to a
perfect conference record, while the loss was the only Catholic
League blemish for the Mighty Macs. The winner could earn the
important top seed in the Metro Catholic Athletic conference
tournament in early May.
MARCH 26 & APRIL 23
#14 LWN vs #21 Andrew
The Phoenix hope to repeat as SouthWest Suburban Red division
champions, but to do that, they will need to deal with a T-Bolts
team on the rise in 2013. North hosts Andrew in late March and then
travels to play the T-Bolts on April 23 in what could be a decisive
divisional game.
APRIL 2 & APRIL 23
#12 Barrington vs #18 Fremd
The Fillies are looking to break Fremd's stranglehold on the top
spot in the Mid-Suburban League after the Vikings have put together
five straight MSL title-winning seasons. The teams square off on April 2
in Palatine
and on April 23 at Barrington.
APRIL 3
#7 NC at #15 NN
The Redhawks have been the elite team in Naperville for the past
several seasons, so the Huskies will be out to prove they can
overtake them when the two teams meet for the second time in 2013 at
North on April 3.
APRIL 4
#8 Stevenson at #11 Mundelein
Expect a closely-contested battle between the Patriots and Mustangs
on April 4 in a game that could decide the winner of the North
Suburban Conference.
APRIL 8
#3 St Ignatius at #1 Fenwick
If things go a certain way, both St Ignatius and Fenwick could both
be undefeated in conference play when they meet on April 8. That
gives this contest the potential to be an explosive game with a lot
on the line; even if it doesn't play out that way, both teams are
early-season favorites to return to the state tournament, so this
could be a state tournament preview of some sort as well.
APRIL 12
#4 New Trier at #5 Loyola
The
Ramblers and Trevians meet up in what could once again serve as a preview
of the Glenbrook Sectional's final game. The winner of this April 12
contest could also be in line for the all-important top seed at
that sectional in May.
MAY 1 &
MAY 3
#6 LWC at #10 Sandburg
#10 Sandburg at #13 H-F
The SouthWest Suburban Blue title race is wide open in 2013, with
H-F, LWC, and Sandburg all hoping to nab the top
spot. The Eagles and Vikings finished with the same record atop the
standings last year, while the Knights were the only one of the
three to advance to the state tournament. The late-season matchups between LWC and Sandburg
on May 1 and between Sandburg and H-F on May 3 could ultimately determine the
division winner.
