MARCH 10
#5 Loyola at #1 Fenwick
The Ramblers stunned the
Friars to win the Catholic League title the last time these two teams met
in 2013, so expect a tense affair in the marquee event of 'opening night' in
Oak Park.
MARCH 17
#7 Brother Rice at #4
St Ignatius
The Crusaders will be seeking a bit of revenge when they travel to
St Ignatius in Week 2; the Wolfpack beat Rice 9-6 in the state
quarterfinals last season.
MARCH 18
#5 Loyola at #6 Stevenson
This nonconference battle between Loyola and Stevenson takes place
early in the season, but it should serve as a showcase of two
potential state tournament teams with
serious title hopes.
MARCH 24
#1 Fenwick at #7 Brother Rice
The rivalry continues
for the Crusaders and Friars when Fenwick heads to Rice on March 24
for a game that always has major implications on the Catholic League
title race.
APRIL 7 & APRIL 28
#13 Palatine vs #16 Conant
The Cougars will hope to repeat as MSL champions in 2014, but they
will be tested twice in April by a solid-looking Palatine team that
has conference title aspirations of their own.
APRIL 9
#10 New Trier at #5
Loyola
The Trevians finally got past the Ramblers in last year's GBN
Sectional final to advance to the state tournament; this
mid-season battle could be a preview of another classic postseason
showdown between the two nonconference rivals.
APRIL 9 & MAY 7
#9 Homewood-Flossmoor
vs #12 Sandburg
The two regular season matches between the Vikings and Eagles are
always heated, so expect more of the same with both teams hoping to
lay claim to the SWSC Blue title this year.
APRIL 10
#2 Naperville North at #9 Naperville Central
The Huskies have their sights set on a state title in 2014, but they
will have to fend off the resurgent Redhawks if they hope to get
back to the "promised land" in May. This regular season contest at
Central should be the hosts' best chance to show they can be a
serious threat to the Huskies' postseason plans.
APRIL 28
#4 St Ignatius at #6 Stevenson
Expect a great late season battle between St Ignatius and Stevenson
in Lincolnshire on April 28; the hosts upended the Wolfpack in the
state semifinals last May en route to a second-place trophy.
APRIL 29
#2 Naperville North at #3 Lyons
The Huskies and Lions meet in a late-season, nonconference battle in
LaGrange on April 29; the winner will likely emerge as one of the
main contenders for a state title in 2014.
